Zhi Xiang is a Shanghai-based Buddhist monk who has been saving animals since the early 1990s. Over the years, he has expanded his efforts and built a small team that runs an animal shelter caring for up to 7,000 dogs and cats. The operation, set up at the Gratitude Temple on the outskirts of the Chinese megacity, has given many animals a forever home and helped the monk find his way on his spiritual journey.

I know many people devoted in animal rescue in China and I also participated when I was there. Now I’m in SA also many rescues here. Animal protection is a topic that need to be addressed in every country. I’m watching this and crying it’s so hard. I pray for a better world. 🙏🏼

Before I became unemployed I used to donate most of my income to animal rescues and do animal advocacy and now I can't even see an animal in distress or calls for help because there's almost nothing I can do to help.
This man and his team are working miracles.

6:05 - "You need to take responsibility, not me. I only rescue _stray_ animals." that's a Monk's 'tough love' right there and he's absolutely right. RESPECT. He reminds me of Takis and his shelter in Greece.

@@finnhansen3225 actually, just because they’re “animals” doesn’t mean they don’t have feelings too. I’m not being mean/backwashing but animals do feel emotions other than happiness and joy. (Like pain, anger, frustration, sadness etc) and they don’t show it in the same way as humans. Like my dog makes this, I guess you could say sneezing noice whenever he’s mad/frustrated and he growls/barks whenever he’s angry, and he has this very “whiny” soft bark whenever he’s sad. So yeah. Animals do feel emotions (we’re technically animals as well so... yeah)

Seeing him tears up is really sad to see. I wish him all the best and hopefully he can get help from others soon. This vid should go viral on china. Animal abuse is real over there and should be stopped. People need to be educated to stop treating animal like products.
