@@DrZaius3141 Yes, but it's all about appearance and attitude. Jeff dresses young, hip and cool and acts like an irresponsible young adult who never figured out how to grow up properly. Shirley dresses and acts like a mom, because she actually is one, leading to a more responsible and mature mindset, leading people to think she's older than Jeff, even though there's only a few years between them at most.
What's great about this scene is everyone calling out eachother's failings and personal flaws only for Abed to demonstrate how hard his really are. The rest of them can at least share an emotional dialogue, but Abed cannot except through the lens of TV and movies.
Something that I always admired about this show is how they developed Abed Sure, you can say they "changed" him, but over six seasons we actually get to see him become better at connecting with people without the screen of tv, acknowledging people's feelings and accepting change. That's character development, and him and Jeff get the best arc in the show
Roshni honestly I think it could have been done better. Not by anyone else. Still by Dan Harmon but with his experience with the show now I’m sure it would be absolutely perfect
I was just thinking that! Every character is introduced with so much exposition, Abed introducing himself and Britta at the start, around the table every gets introduced... and ONCE AGAIN each one is reintroduced by Jeff in the end, but it felt organic- never forced or overkill.
Abeds literally the only person that stayed the same throughout the whole show. Britta turned stupid, Jeff gained a sense of fashion, Annie stopped wearing makeup, Troy dropped his fake peronality, Shirley grew her hair out, and pierce stopped dressing like that wtf.
If you actually consider the entire series from start to finish, except for the Pilot and for S4, Britta actually was quite consistent. Especially starting with the second half of S1, when she stopped being mostly motivation for Jeff and started being her own character. She has plenty of strong moments in the later seasons, and plenty of wacky ones in S1 and especially 2.
This is history in the making. This might be my favourite show of all time. Just wish they'd make the movie, and we finally get a happy ending for Jeff and Annie, and some closure for Britta. Her character fizzled out so much, she was almost a background character towards the end. The Dean was a bigger character than she was.
I am guessing here , but i think that's because she was the least comedically talented of the cast. Her delivery of the lines was cringy for me. Watch a UA-cam video called "community season 1 cast evaluation " where Dan Harmon basically admits it.
@@johnman9386 I don't think it has anything to do with the actor and all to do with the writing. The character was intricate enough in the beginning but devolved into being pretty one-note by the later seasons. That happened to all the characters to some degree, but Britta was certainly worst off.
@@hrvbox I know the video is a joke but he was serious when talking to Yvette when he said that Gillian struggles with comedy. She's much better in dramatic roles than comedic ones. And it's natural considering this was her first experience with comedy.I believe Dan as the smart man he is, incorporated her cringiness as a part of the character and he made it somewhat funny.
I wish Brita hadn't been dumbed down to such a buffoon but I also get that in a sitcom it's easier to mine a caricature for humor. They all got a bit broader but Brita was the only one whose character was ruined by it... and Peirce but that was due to all the interpersonal friction between Chevy and Dan (and everyone else tbh).
I think as the show progressed, Britta became more complex and more realistic compared to her 1st episode character which is like a trophy for Jeff to win over.
They all needed flaws to work on them and grow, this version of Britta didn't have any so she had 0 personality to develop, dumb Britta is far better than just a pretty blonde
They needed to change her character some, as her original purpose was to show Jeff's flaws, but it was clear he did that on his own. I didn't mind the dumbing down, as it worked well when her character was pretty much just posing as the original one we see. At times it got too much like in the episode when they showed her parents. I cringe at how bad she was in those scenes. Personally, I would have liked to have seen all the characters achieve some degree of what they aspired to, rather than remaining static for the most part. Shirley for example trying to find herself and be independent and ending up going back with her husband. The way they presented him made sense, but I still would have liked to have seen her grow as a single independent woman. Annie was the one that seemed to actually be going somewhere from where she started originally and I'd have liked to have seen some of that with all of them. But back to Britta. She was presented besides being smarter, as having made mistakes in life that left her behind. In the end she was still kind of stuck in that place of her mistakes leaving her stuck in life.
@@Logan_Baron All good points... I actually didn't mind Shirley getting back with Andre because they were cute together and she was building her business, so she needed help with the kids and all. Even though Malcolm Jamal Warner had another show, the characters could have stayed together. He didn't need to ever physically be seen again. Kinda dumped on that whole season-long storyline.
