      Thanks Chris. Yes, I did one using mainly watercolours with some acrylic ink. It was a lot of fun. Good paper is the best starting point!

      Yes, that’s a great use for works on paper that need a bit more. It adds such a random factor into the mix - you can’t control where the pages divide up the marks you’ve made, giving you a whole new take on the work! Enjoy ☺️

    I love this !!- funnily enough I use purchased concertinas but was wondering about creating smaller books. These would be perfect- I do work on location ; always working to create something more abstract in my studio work. I was wondering about doing something weekly for a year to track seasons- this could be a good way of doing it!! Thank you- very inspiring and I love your mark making!

      @@MichelleWalkerArt ha I decided I really like the square format but now trying to figure out how to cut and fold it!- did you show that in one of your videos? Thanks so much - ha I tried the 4 x 3 folds and made 3 cuts but couldn’t figure the folding!

    • @MichelleWalkerArt
      @MichelleWalkerArt  4 роки тому

      @@LizAckerley for the square format, fold in half then quarters on the long side, then fold into thirds on the short side... it should be only 2 cuts. I’ll see if I can send a little drawing to show the layout

    • @LizAckerley
      @LizAckerley 4 роки тому

      hi Michelle thanks yes that’s exactly what I did - thanks for confirming. Then I cut on the long side (3 cuts) like for the 4 x 4 and tried to fold in the same way

    • @MichelleWalkerArt
      @MichelleWalkerArt  4 роки тому +1

      @@LizAckerley did you start by folding the end square with painting side up towards the painted side? And then at the ‘ends’ where you ‘turn the corner’ folding the pained side away from the painted side?

  • @mochatheclown

    Hmm, not sure what happened but when I made one of these books with what I thought was good strathmore paper, every fold in both directions the folds cracked the paper in the folds. So not sure which way the paper grain is. Maybe I pressed too hard in the initial folding process and then did the bone folding onto the creases which just made the cracks in the folds worse? At any rate, I love the idea of this folded art book concept and will have it to try again at some later time. Thank you for showing how it’s done!

    • @MichelleWalkerArt
      @MichelleWalkerArt  Рік тому

      Some papers, like my favourite Aches, are not good for this exercise. So my advise is trial a couple of different papers that you have on hand in your kit and avoid any that ‘crack’.

    I love it. What a great idea for a gift. It also would be a cool thing to do at a group retreat to record the experience nonverbally. Did you paint the cover on a different piece of paper or directly on the book after you assembled it?

    • @MichelleWalkerArt
      @MichelleWalkerArt  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Jennifer. That’s a great idea about doing one as a momento of an event like a group retreat. (I’ve just finished one as a Christmas present!!) Yes, the covers were painted as a separate piece of paper and I used matt board off cuts as the base for the covers and covered them with a pre-painted paper to match the book style and colour palette. The matt board is sturdy so gives the book covers real strength to protect the book pages. Love to see yours if you have a go. Recommend using a sheet of good quality watercolour paper - you can get the cheaper options at an art store for a few dollars a sheet.
