People who whine about the black and white screen don't seem to understand that it's the main reason it lasts 5-7 days without a charge unlike other smartwatches that need to be charged every day and the screen goes totally blank when your not using it. What good is a watch that doesn't show the time when it's idle?
I would use the word *different*. Sure it's well designed, but not better. The pebble (OG) fits well on my wrist and can take a beating. I would sooner take my pebble through swim practice than the steel. The Steel is a great watch. So is the Pebble. I would not call the Steel a 2nd gen Pebble. It's just targeting a different (business/fashion) oriented audience. Both are great devices. Just in different markets.
Just bought a Pebble steel refurbished for 65$. I've tried all kinds of smartwatches but the pebble stays the best for my use cases, there is just nothing like it :)
I like the Pebble Steele better than any of the current smartwatch options out there no doubt but the $250 price point is going to take some serious thought before I take the plunge and purchase one.
I was really hyped after CES and would have bought immediatly. Now after 2 nearly 2 months I am suprised how fast the Pebble has aged for me. I am even considering selling my original pebble and looking for sonething more high tech ...
the black band looks out of place but the steel band looks great! best smartwatch on the market right now, and while people say this watch is ugly, I think it's closest competition, the Gear 2, is downright an eyesore.
To be fair the Galaxy Gear is the better option for more advanced OS and Hardware BUT the Pebble won in the outside look and feel (personal opinion)..... :)
~€180 is a bit much for me to swallow atm. Hopefully they do sales as if they dropped it $50 I might be able to do that. Seriously they'd sell so much if they dropped both devices by $50, $100 is still a premium price for a watch if they're afraid of "cheapening their image" casios can be picked up for a tenner yet also go well above 100 for their top watches
Pebble team is tiny so it's not worth it for them to make a WP client but they've opened the SDK. Also, until there's a proper notification centre and app switcher on WP, it's impossible to retain connection without having the actual Pebble client as the on-screen, active app 24/7. Even the third party Pebble apps on WP drop connection once you switch to another app.
Pedro Cunha Ahh yes I know it is very subjective, my bad for being a little too blunt! True I do like the look of some of the new Gear watches but really didn't like the original gear, mainly because of the camera on the side which made it look a little odd in my opinion. I just feel that the Steel does what it needs to do in a retro style that doesn't follow the trend of contemporary design whilst remaining a watch that looks very classy and wearable - I guess I am taken to it because I don't feel it follows the mainstream appeal. I feel that in a years time we may all be wearing an iWatch or a Gear but in reality this is what I want and in truth is all I need and is something quirky, neat and retro. Although I am stuck in this dilemma of do I buy a Steel now or wait till Apple plays their card, particularly as I am planning on getting the iPhone 6 when it's out and obviously the Gear being tied to Samsung, a Gear just doesn't work for me.
I really like new tech but this watches are ugly as hell... and the black and white screen? Come on!! We're in 2014!! The 90's are far gone. Nice review btw, thank you!
Having played with an apple watch for a day, this may be somewhat true. But I just bought a steel for $75 and the battery lasts about a week. The apple watch didn't even last a full day! I also prefer the always on display. Granted if I owned an iPhone (I never will) and money wasn't an issue, then I'd probably be an apple watch owner. With all that being said, I'm perfectly happy with the steel!
anothermoniker I love my Pebble steel and for $75 it was an absolute steal. Did you by chance get yours from the ATT store like I did? Are you an SD'er?
onishchuk4 I was lucky enough to have Best Buy price match to ATT. But it worked out very well and for $75 it's easily the better buy. I am an SD'er; there's no other way I would know about great deals!

And this is why boys and girls, it's always a smart move to skip the first-gen product and wait for the second (or third).
I don't know, I have the original Pebble and it is great. I don't regret not owning a Steel for one minute. Great device for a great price 👌
The original is great no doubt. I just think the Steel is _better_ lol
I would use the word *different*.

Now 2020, my Pebble Steel died but I just found and open box one for $75.00. The first one cost me $250. so I am happy to be getting another watch.

LOL, I just discovered that I work in the building next to Pebble Headquater in Palo Alto.
This is the coolest most subtle smart watch I've ever seen & I love it! ^__^
'Less is more' is so appropriate for this product.

Great videos as always Taylor! The pebble steel is a great smartwatch.
I'd hope the future Pebble to have an amoled display, so the black watch base would look more unite. Not like that blueish tint
I hated it back then, but now? Wow! Does it run Rebble OS now?
What do you thing for the quality of the wristbands? I've heard that the quality is really bad. Do you thing I can cut regular leather band to fit?
the pebble steel come with steel bend with the box or you need to buy it with the watch?
I really want to get this to accompany my future Z2 :)

Is there a watch that does the notifications better?
How do you get ESPN app on Pebble smart watch?
i really like the desk.. where did you get it? nice review btw.
To be fair the Galaxy Gear is the better option for more advanced OS and Hardware BUT the Pebble won in the outside look and feel (personal opinion)..... :)
How is the vibration on the Steel? It has been a common topic lately.@Pocketnow
i liked my pebble alot ! but i sold it when i got the galaxy gear.
i loved every thing about it .. but only if it was touch !
Can't wait to get mine
Hi how do i get the charger
you should do a separate review for this watch attached to android and then one for ios as theyre two different worlds.
I would definitely love to, but this Steel unit is going back this week.
I'll likely buy one of my own, though, so we'll see!
Getting the black one!!!

That thong he uses to put on the band, is it included, and do you need one?
Looks like a real watch COOL
hey guys does anyone kno a smartwatch that is windows phone compatible? (other than the AGENT)
To bad it bugs with gs4 and guear to much ? so in stock
How to charger
It looks good, but I'd like one with a younger look even better.
where can I get the watchface at 1:26??
You android users are lucky. Just search up the new, moto 360. It's by far the sexiest thing I've ever seen and I'm truly jealous.
Would anyone still recommend this?
I just bought one on Amazon for $49.99. I figured how can you go wrong.
5 atm? damn that's more than most diver's watches...
Make a windows phone client, then we'll talk. Meanwhile, i got my eye on AGENT.

Finally!!!
I was expecting a little bit more of this review, I am steel (lol) waiting my black one :(
$250 for pebble steel... i'll most likely get the galaxy fit which looks much better.
Besides Battery i dont see nothing better than my Galaxy Gear...
Works with more phones.
Better looks in most peoples opinion too.
The first argument is valid, the second is very subjective!
I like the look of the second Galaxy Gear, the first one, not so much.

There's no I in spy

Screen looks cheap
way too bulky, half the mass and it would be cool.
glad this crap will soon be irrelevant with Android wear
you dream! i way prefer steel over android wear
Apple Watch > Pebble Steel

anothermoniker Awesome! SD FTW!
Just another paid advert - guess if you were open about the arrangement, it wouldn't be a review.
Really ugly :(
this is such a paid advertisement
yay more crap to get me mugged out in the street
