After owning both 20DETa and 25DETs, I’d highly recommend a RB25DET Neo swap as the power gains will be much more beneficial long term, especially when you want to push more than 350 eventually!!

Tunning not a problem hit up Martin at Rs-Enthalpy in Tampa fla. Im running a rb25det w/ power fc and he got mine to 481 whp @ 21psi on 93 pump with a cracked manifold!!!! He can also chip the stock computer!!!
I live in Sagamihara, Japan and have a Skyline GTS25T - R33. I can tell you here in Japan everybody that owns an RB20 they end up swapping it for an RB25. If you only trying to get 350WHP you are going to be pushing that RB20 to the limit and close to the breaking point. If you go with an RB25 there is so much you can do to it you can even push to about 450 to 500HP without changing internals. To be able to make that kind of power with an RB20 you have to spend a significant amount of money. You can push way more power out of an SR20 than you can out of an RB20. Trust me once you reach 350HP is not going to be enough you are going to want more power if you get an RB25 you have the option to get more power if you want. That's my advice good luck with your build.

I'm running an rb25 in my gtst and I've driving another gtst with an rb20. Its a world of difference between the rb20 and rb25 in my opinion. The rb25 is a better platform for bigger power and mid range torque. If your looking for reliability and not too worried about big power stick with the rb20. It would be easier to achieve the power range your looking for with the 25 vs the 20
i have an rb25det (R33 Skyline GTST) wich runs with round about 350whp. it runs very stable without any problems for the last 30.000km. I dont know much about the rb20, but i think the rb25 might be more staunch.
I've had four skylines so far with various engine configs. For your power goals I would absolutely stick with the RB20. Simple bolt ons got me a reliable 380rwhp with my last one. If you want more after that then go RB25. You can swap all the parts over to the RB25 (if you convert to top feed injectors and depending on what size turbo you go for) so no money is wasted. Just my 2c
So RB20 is still reliable after all the bolt ons? or does adding the bolt ons increase the chances of destroying the motor..? Looking into a GTS-T that I can daily & slide OCCASIONALLY. Any info you have helps. There are some for sale with a RB25 in it already.. But what are the cons with that? Can the 25 be reliable if its all stock (Maybe bolt ons, if its ok?)

For the rb20. Try building the head, ARP head studs, and precision 55 58 turbo. It might give you the power you want. It's basically the same set up as Kalvins Garage 240sx with his rb20.
Keep the 20! I'm building an RB20 right now with the goal of 350whp in mind. Kalvin's Garage has a s13 with a rb20 with around 370whp on stock internals on 18 psi
skylinedude951 I've got 750cc injectors, precision 5976 turbo, ls2 coil packs, eBay upper intake, and a CX racing top mount turbo manifold. I'm gonna get a tial 38mm Wastegate, hks ssq4 bov, oil cooler, intercooler and all that fun stuff and go standalone ecu. I could push more power than 350 with what I've got but I'm gonna play it safe with stock internals👌
Future S7 owner well so far have on a bigger turbo and a link ecu, and a screamer pipe .... It sounds awesome when reaching those high rpms And the power is always there when I need it .. Drives awesome for a daily

RB25 and RB26 is much more popular than an RB20 and overshadowed by them. If you like just to own an skyline and daily drive it and enjoy every single minute of it than stay with the 20. The 20 can easily reach 400+ HP and it's more than enough. If you want to be a showoff guy with an engine with ridiculous amount of power so you can turn some heads go with the 25 or the 26. Forgot to mention that the 20 won't burn too much juice.
rb26 is the best swap for the price, and if you decide you want more power you can go all the way to maxing out the 154 transmission way easier than both the rb20 and 25.
Well I've got an RB25 GTST. was running 440 RWHP. (506 Brake for the Americans). Currenlty de registered for a full time race car, and building for 500-550 RWHP, all depends on how much air the GTX3076 can push at 30 PSI. An RB25 will do your numbers on it's head. You can do that with a 20, but it can be hard work. They don't like that much power, it can be done it's just way harder work on the donk. But if you're going to put it in the shop and pay??? probably keep the 20 and settle for a low 300 reliable. How usable do you want your power too is the question. All my shit is on my channel if you're in the least bit interested.
I think I'm a little late of viewing this video, but I must say I love your content. However, I think you should keep the rb20 and do minor bolt ons a tune and you would easily make your way into the 300+ hp

I'd say to go with a NEO Rb25 det because it is a much newer engine and the head flows much better and the connecting rods are 26 styled and wrist pins are better than previous models. I had a rb20 det and I was going to build it n the motor got damaged so I ended up buying a NEO Rb25 det and to be honest chalk and cheese I'm verrryyyyy happy that I went with the neo 25 and I am estimating that u might be able to make 260hp to the wheel at stock only down side is about 1000 to 500 less rpm at the limiter 1000 less if it is auto and 500 less than the rb20 if it's a manual engine but if you're re tuning then that won't matter kuz you could reset the rpm redline although I won't advise more than 7500 rpm for the 25 but the low end torque is sooooooo much better than the rb20
You really need to test drive a rb25 / rb30. The rb20 really is a gutless wonder off boost. They're horrible. Don't get me wrong they're a strong performer on boost, but off boost they don't hold a candle to the larger engines. That extra half litre / litre of capacity makes driving a skyline so much lazier around town, my rb30det will pull out of an intersection in 4th at 30kmh (20mph) without breaking a sweat. Honesty I'd just stay with the rb20, there is something about making big power from a little motor that really appeals to me. mainly so you can piss off people with worked ls1s etc with a 32 or ceff that makes around 250wrkw out of a stock internal rb20. standard rb25's actually have more issues when it comes to shit like cracked piston lands, heavy oil breathing and other fun stuff that ruins your day.. That said if you have the coin to rebuild a 25 with forged internals then go for it.. that additional 500cc makes a big difference with rb20's being labeled as "having a torque hole" .. I beg to differ though as my 20 in my first ceff was making 10psi BEFORE @2500 and 15 by 3200 but it was a freak engine.. sadly I spun #6 bearing due to a leanout but meh. you can get good power out of 20's just buy running the 25 neo turbo on them , you already have a fmic , change the injectors to gtr 444cc/min get it tuned and you'll be happy with around 200rwkw (268hp) .. even the stock 270cc injectors will flow for that but are getting way to close to the maximum duty cycle. if you want more power then go a TD05 20g as they seem to be the best turbo for response on a 20. anyway check this out then --> facebook.com/garageseven/videos/2035068469839708/
Those transmissions do exist. The ones with the shift pattern reversed. They just aren't common. They do exist though. I think some fiat in Europe have it.
Whats up skyline guyyy!!!!! Love the video great content greater" car ! For the numbers you want to have youre motor push the rb20det is a great platform i would port the head upgrade turbo; intercooler, injectors, lifter springs you will be well on youre way with a tune ! If you want it to sound nasty some tomei cams will get you there !!! Im building a rb20det to drop in my g35 or a light weight 2 door oneday if you really are pressured to more power rb26 will do the trick at stock specs
New in the channel, garrett gtx28 better response for the 2.0, less turbo lag, full exhaust, tomei pomcams and safc or power fc, with this combo you can get 350whp
U DEFINITELY DON’T need to be a “master mechanic” to do a basic engine swap.....I am in the process of swapping an rb25 with a top mount gt35 turbo with fmic into an R32 gts-t and I pulled the rb20 with harbor freight handtools....in a 10X25’ storage unit lol
Well the cost of the motor is only around 700 diff. So if you sell your motor it will be worth the swap if u r going to keep it. Then if need be a rb20 would be cheaper to redo
RB25 is superior in every aspect. The "High Revving Nature" of an RB20 is BS. The 25Neo will rev out higher and smoother (solid lifters). The 25's head flows better, the bore x stroke is better, larger aftermarket. Unfortunately RB's are now stupid expensive, so for most you're just stuck with what you have.
If you running a 4door id say inport yourself and aussie r31 get ya self a gts 1 cam for the rb30 it has 2 1/2 inch extractors and a 2 1/2 or 3 inch exhaust and enjoy
Please ignore some of these messages saying you cant get good power with eitger which is a lie. I have am rb25 and an seeing 415bhp at the flywheel with only a few mods. Rb20 is good but if you want bigger power than rb25 all day long.
I wud say tbh is to go with the rb25 bc u have a higher chance into producing more power an more affection buh wat u can do is that u can use the rb20 head on the rb25 block

Injectors, hypergear turbo and get rid of that shit intake and you’ll hit the 400 easy on the factory engine. You don’t need to buy an rb25, if you want a bigger capacity, buy a crank and cylinder head, the blocks are all interchangeable.
I have a 400hp rb20 in Canada my parts sponsor has a 600hp rb20. my advise is not to cheap out on parts or computers. haltech works great. if you go top mount done cheap out on manifolds. and methanol helps a pinch. a common myth is the 20 fails at 400 ish. that's due to crap parts and poor tuning. companies in Australia make great parts.
Kirko Bangz actually you can danm near reliabily run 400whp on a RB20det with aem head studs and aftermarket head gaskets(obviously you'll need a big single with an ecu to achieve those numbers)
You will get more subs if you fun a RB25 or 26 even ... just do it better over all . Ps your end song so loud . Oh and allways start your can we wana here that shit.

I've got 390hp out of a factory block rb20det and it lasted longer than some of my other 25dets
You can lower it, all you have to do is put sand in that rain guard. I have a slammed car and that was the only way to get up the drive way.
ditching my rb20 for a 25 was the best thing I ever did.
the down low power is what makes it better.
I could see that.
its personal preference tho, my gf has a 300hp rb20 c33 laurel and she would never go 25. Instagram her_c33
New in the channel, garrett gtx28 better response for the 2.0, less turbo lag, full exhaust, tomei pomcams and safc or power fc, with this combo you can get 350whp
Thanks for the info! ill have to look into that turbo, thanks for subscribing !
Im keeping my RB20 and doing a full build on it right now.
I have a freind who went from a reliable(2yrs no issues) 418 or so whp and it cranked for 2yrs no issues till he swapped to RB26
I have not owned either but i am in the process of getting an rb20det put in my 83 datsun 280zx :D
I just don't trust myself haha
stay arb20 brother I'm have s13 arb20 and it's my baybe for 10 years and I'm don't give probloms and running 400 hp 😊😊😊😊
daily driver up date to work
Well the cost of the motor is only around 700 diff.
I owned a R33 NA (Rb25de) and it was more powerful than a turbo R32 (Rb20det), get a RB25 if you want less turbo lag?
Something is wrong if a RB20DET is making less power then a RB25DE.
DriftNick if you look at the specs there is only a 10kw difference so it is possible(as it was in my case).
Aftermarket exhaust (which they pretty much all have) and more boost means the difference is much bigger.
DriftNick still possible tho :p
What intercooler and blowoff valve you got??
ebay intercooler and turbosmart bov
4B11T just to mess with people. Or a 4G63T
FeignTheGamer no you gotta get a civic and put a 4g63
Or just get a civic.
Please ignore some of these messages saying you cant get good power with eitger which is a lie. I have am rb25 and an seeing 415bhp at the flywheel with only a few mods. Rb20 is good but if you want bigger power than rb25 all day long.
0:58 song name pls
I wud say tbh is to go with the rb25 bc u have a higher chance into producing more power an more affection buh wat u can do is that u can use the rb20 head on the rb25 block
Whats your wheel size ?:o
great vid!
thanks appreciate it!
Bring it to a reputable shop and you can get good hp depending on your budget.
You should go 25det neo
Junior Pita True but judging by the comments on here it's going to take a long time for US skyline owners to realise this, if ever.
Junior Pita exactly what im doing for my r31 ahaha
Wah why would you want to lower anymore no ride comfort and too many issues. It looks good as it is and for 350hp is a easy task with RB20DET my mate has a gtst just a custom plenum a bigger turbo and a ecu chipped and it's 270kw on stock injectors. The RB25 is a good engine but need head oil drain and oil restrictors and a few other it just depends everyone has a different opinion. Sure I'm 3yrs too late 🙃
I put a rb20det in my 300zx and it goes hard
that's different lol
the RB20 sounds much better than the RB25
Hey man, can u tell me if manual rb20de gearbox bolts on a rb25det?
i have an rb20det and the rb25det trans bolted right up, a lot of parts are interchangeable.
@@benibsen830 i have a gts(rb20de) but wish to put An rb25DET in it. But idk if it would bolt on the gearbox from the rb20de
@@phtevenyt131 best bet would be to join some facebook groups and ask around or read forums on google...also i’ll buy the skyline off you 😝
@@benibsen830 ye Will try the fb groups👌 from what i know so far, is that it should fit but dont know for sure. Haha u wanna buy the skyline ? 😜 Its a very Nice rust-free gts spec2 from 97 tho😏
@@phtevenyt131 how much lol
Exhaust, ecu and tune would be a good start
255 walboro pump adjustable fuel regulator 555cc injectors upgrade coilpacksupgrade harnessrb25 turbo (14psi) ..you should get a different turbo but this is what i have until my (hi flow) comes back from the shop straight pipe 3in intercooler new plugs gap down to .06 ..but .08 MAY be ok
This setup has me at around 300hp
once my hi flow comes back i can probably turn just 17psi and be somewhere in the 320 -330 range
Im running 20lbs stock everything except laurel auto ecu chip, no intecooler, e85-93 mix, 3 in exhaust from turbo. My body list: 370z,350z,2013-5.0 mustang, gs650 suzuki,2012 silverado with 5.3, harley davidson, 2005 m3 bmw, integra,2014 challenger,2002wrx, 1997 240 w rb25, rb20 world bb.
I would change the intake to the 25 turbo intake
Just stick this rb20 only need to change turbo from rb25 it more power and fun bro
If you're going to swap it why don't you just get the rb26
Have you seen the price of A RB26? LOL
@@skylinedude951 work hard play hard either way your car is going to come out nice man
@@skylinedude951 have you sign the RPM Act
Sr20det or if you want SR20VET 🤔😏
I think I saw your Subie down the street from my house lol
And my arb20 it's up date daily driver I'm driving to work wariy relive
How you get pulled over in a r32 have someone Under that age of 16 ride in the passenger seat
You now cuz it is right hand drive
Your new camera is awesome!
Stay with the 20 rebuild it with arp parts change cams ect that should hlp #be different
what rims are those?
For 350hp goal just stick to rb20det..more than capable
The best RB20's are ones that are tossed in the bin like the absolute garbage they are
Injectors, hypergear turbo and get rid of that shit intake and you’ll hit the 400 easy on the factory engine. You don’t need to buy an rb25, if you want a bigger capacity, buy a crank and cylinder head, the blocks are all interchangeable.
Stay with your 20 if you don't work on cars
I have a 400hp rb20 in Canada my parts sponsor has a 600hp rb20. my advise is not to cheap out on parts or computers. haltech works great. if you go top mount done cheap out on manifolds. and methanol helps a pinch. a common myth is the 20 fails at 400 ish. that's due to crap parts and poor tuning. companies in Australia make great parts.
Dude rb20 for days
Rb20det all day man
Keep the rb20 man there legendary
This looks like Starkey Park lolol Are you from Tampa?
I am indeed!
skylinedude951 I think I’ve seen your car around before lol
Music at 1:20???
I don't remember the name but its the youtube music they provide.
Rb20 the cheapest way to get an rb engine
Rb20 for anything under 350 just do studs and gasket for insurance
Kirko Bangz actually you can danm near reliabily run 400whp on a RB20det with aem head studs and aftermarket head gaskets(obviously you'll need a big single with an ecu to achieve those numbers)
Rb30 block with RB25 head
I do have the r33 transmission tho
You will get more subs if you fun a RB25 or 26 even ... just do it better over all . Ps your end song so loud . Oh and allways start your can we wana here that shit.
go with the rb25
bro CAN U JUST GET TO THE POINT AS TITLE DESCRIBES, U TALK TO DAMNNN MUCH
Go rb25
rb20🎶🎶🎶🎧
RB20/25 are a waste of effort. 26/30 or don’t bother.
26 is the best choice for the price.
Rb26 with 6mt getrag is literally almost 10k USD... A 2jzgte with 5 speed is like 4500... Big bore rb are a rip-off.
Just ls swap it 😉
