- I take the both the prefacelift 2018 C43 AMG and my own personal 2019 facelift C43 AMG and out for a spin.
How much does the EU PPF affect the AMG performance exhaust? Find out!
Let me know what you think in the comments guys! Which one sounds the best?

The 2019 one was good. And you are the best like Doug that drives and what the car about!👍👍😎
Thank you so much for this video.
It explored the exact thing I was looking to establish; as I am in two minds as to whether to purchase the facelift model or the 2018 model.
Liked and subscribed.
Keep the videos coming.
Thank you for the nice comment and sub! I'm glad you found this helpful. If you havent seen this video yet this should be helpful too. ua-cam.com/video/CdD0SpHK2sI/v-deo.html
Thanks for the comparison!
I was already trying to figure the changes out in the latest c43 vids on yt... but yours really did the job.
Keep having fun with your 43!
(Got the pre-facelift 17' c43)
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed. Both are brilliant cars so you cant go wrong. Hope you are having fun with yours too! :)
2018 higher pitch ,2019 deeper. i have a 2018 as a daily and absolutely love it .I do have the exhaust button that comes with the sport exhaust. I do have a sound clip of it on my channel.
I am enjoying your vids, dude
Thanks mate 👍
Thankfully we can enjoy discussing the exhaust sounds while people look for bread, trying to earn a few bucks to live in many places on earth... So, I loved them both of those sounds, since my 2020 AMG A45S 4 Matic + has the clean cut pops n crackles that are so much fun, too ! Great video, respect.
Love the new interior of the facelift. I drive a 2018 C43 w/ performance exhaust and definitely think its a deeper throatier sounding exhaust over the 2019.
2018 facelift?
I’ll give you 30 bags
@@karolisnorvilas4081the facelift is 2019
Thanks for the vid. They both sound out of control :) The end of an era really.
I love the raw dirty sound of the old one with ear piercing upshift cracks.
Yeah the old one has the best upshifts in my opinion too! Both sound great though. End of an era indeed... :( It will be really sad if the rumours are true and the next gen c63 goes from a v8 to 4 cylinders.. fingers crossed it wont be but we shall see!
@@ABAUTOAMG Yeah one of the best sounding V6 on the market. Period. And probably also one of the best sounding OPF high-performance cars out there.
@@Megaatron1 Yep! Great thing is too as you know as an owner, video still does not do it justice, in person its mad! :D
I'm actually a bit relieved - as I will get the newer Model as next car. I really was frightened that it would not sound as good as the pre facelift with ppf. But I even find it more sparkling and dirty ;) Thanks for the vid
You are welcome mate, you won't be dissapointed in the sounds of this car I promise you that! Sounds even better in person too :)
@@ABAUTOAMG Looking forward soooo hard!
Another reason I’m going to buy the pre facelift C43 ! As well as the front lights looking better. Then add the new rear diff from the ‘19 !
XOjamsterXO ikr lol the front lights on 2019 and on are so damn ugly
What rear diff ?
Hey ABauto! have you heard the FI on aeronomen channel? sounds absolutely beautiful
The post facelift for me is just a little less raspy on the gear shifts. I got my 2017 C43 coupe nearly a month ago and its a great car. The stock exhaust is superb. I put some K&N filters in a little over a week in. And its now sounding cleaner and certainly less raspy aince i did. Its like the restrictive stock panel filters help create the notes. ......
Hey man you got it without the amg performance exhaust? Im picking my
2018 up in a couple of weeks and it doesn’t have the pe spec.. was a bit
Upset but couldn’t pass up on the condition of the car. Most say it’s a must have. Do you still get the pops and cracks in sport + with the stock exhaust? Thanks!
@@stephenmurray9890 it does have the performance exhaust as standard in the coupe format. I was trying to explain that it has lost the raspy pops and bangs for more deeper ones with the better flowing air going through it. I've looked FI Exhaust and Armytrix. FI do a module that still enables you to have the valve control on the stock centre console button rather than having a key fob control. But it is upwards of $3000. I want more sound but atm that price is putting me off.
ProjecTrance oh ok man. I’m in Canada and the pe is an upgrade you have to add on when the car is being built:( my vehicle has the standard sport exhaust... I hope it sounds decent. Couldn’t pass up the mileage and condition, but really wanted that performance exhaust., maybe I’ll look into aftermarket exhaust.
@@stephenmurray9890 you will hear the exhaust for sure in sport or sport+..anything over 3000rpm is nice. It is still a twin turbo V6 afterall. Mine is 2 yrs early than i planned as i too was bowled by the spec and knew it ws an opportunity not to miss.
ProjecTrance you’re right. Thanks bro. Some say here don’t get the car unless it has it.. I got a great deal on a barely driven 43 so I just couldn’t pass it up even if it didn’t have the spec. I agree. And after all, I want the car for the power at the end of day.. the sound I can live without ! Especially city driving and the residential neighbourhood I’m in, lol.
2018 has a more loud sound when it changes gear slightly but 2019 has more crackles when u let off the gas. i think he is right there isn't a big difference on the c43
I had exactly the same impression watching the video - more crackles after letting off the gas in 2019 model
I'm listening from my crappy phone speaker, but I didnt really notice a difference at all.
If I had to say, the 2019 sounded healthier/more refined on the inside cabin noise 🤷🏻♂️
I don't get why this is the only car I've ever seen where the PPF does not ruin the sound. Like every BMW coming with a PPF the sound is non existent anymore.
Not only that, the facelift model has a different ECU Tune which changed the pops and crackles when you let off the gas
God I love this car, and to think I almost went with the M340i!
Hey Adam, could you consider a vid on cleaning those matte black wheels? Picking mine up in two days time ...
Hi Mate, no problem I'm currently looking into painting the calipers so will be focusing more on the wheels soon. Have you seen my video on brilliant blue? I covered cleaning the wheels briefly on this one ua-cam.com/video/XlgqAIIKPkc/v-deo.html
They clean up really nice just make sure you dry them to avoid water spots. That's exciting two days! Bet you can't wait.
ABAUTO Given that I ordered a black one, I think that’s the only one of your videos I’ve not seen ;)
Painting the callipers eh? I’ll look forward to that. How are you going to re-mark them as AMG?
@@doctorpaullemon Ah I see! They can be added after painting as vinyl decals. Going to make sure they still have the AMG markings :)
Just the video i was looking for. Just bought the facelift C43. Sounds amazing but yes my doubts are cleared. The old one did have better sound on upshift. More like a gun shot.
Happy to help! It sounds great in person you wont be dissapointed :)
My 2019 one sounds like gunshots on upshift. Didn't really hear it with the 2018.
@@TheApana if you want to hear some epic gunshot upshifts check out my underground car park exhaust video
ua-cam.com/video/u1kuRtWjE0I/v-deo.html :D
would u consider the pre face lift a noticeable amount slower over all considering the face lift is 390hp?
Even though the facelift has a bit more horsepower its not really too noticable driving. I could barely tell between the two. Everything does feel a bit more refined and polished in the facelift though.
Yesterday I drove like 5 minutes with a stranger in a GT63S 4 Door.
The V8 rumble was nice. But he couldn't hear a thing from it next to my C43.
After we went through a tunnel, he said to me at the traffic lights, that there's no chance my exhaust isn't aftermarket.
Well 🤷🏽♂️
Ah that's awesome, always wonder how it sounds from other peoples cars while sport+ing around :) You have the new model don't you mate? When the weather clears up a friend of mine is going to help me film some awesome drive byes and drone footage, cant wait to hear how it sounds outside in some mini tunnels and epic spots! Stay tuned! :D
What year is your c43 and do you have the performance exhaust?
@@user-sv2wy6gx7u 2019 with the performance exhaust
@@Megaatron1 Nice! How do you like it? Have you timed a 0-60 run yet?
@@user-sv2wy6gx7u I've got a timed 0-60 video in each drive mode if you havent seen it its here ua-cam.com/video/WGK6DM0Klo0/v-deo.html
Did you test if the newer one is faster? Some people say that the older one ist faster somehow because of the 7g gearbox
Hey Alex, both these have the 9tronic gear box, it’s slightly improved In the facelift and the facelift has more hp so it’s a bit quicker but it’s not very noticeable to be honest.
You can certainly tell the difference between the 18 & 19. Me being a 19 owner will choose what I own cause it’s what I’m used to however the 18 sounds more raw.
Yep it’s a bit more throaty! The biggest difference is the more aggressive gear shifts on the older one.
Do you know if the North American facelift has that ppf or not ? Thank you
I think it does have one sadly even in the US.
The main difference is the sound pumped through the speakers.. and I like the one on the facelift a lot more
I drive a 2017 c43 cab with amg exhaust....
I think its better sounding than new version.
Hi Ian, The gear changes are much meaner on the 2017 I think after driving both. Both sound good but I think you are right the 2017 is a bit louder.
2019 facelift is better in Every way, the sound looks and performance
Hey Adam.... I read an article here in Canada where an exec at Mercedes AMG stated that the new cars coming out would be quieter to meet the new EU regs.....but exisitng models eg: 205 C-Class were grandfathered through. Perhaps this is why the new 45 is quieter while the older and newer C43's sound much the same..? He went on to say that all markets would be getting the same EU approved exhaust as not financially viable to design and market different systems. I imagine the new 206 platform C-Class (C53) will be quieter.. One of the reasons I have a 2020 S205 C43 Wagon on order.. :-)
Hi Gary, thanks that is interesting to read I think you are right. It will be interesting to see how the next cclass AMGs turn out. We may find that companies capitalise on the gap in the market and produce some really nice high quality after market exhausts.
Are you sure about the grandfather rights?
Most people seem to agree that the facelift (W205) C63 is much quieter than the pre-facelift (W205) C63.
@@jj2950Hi J.J... I'm not 100% sure.....but the way the article reads it says "next gen" cars will be less noisy and they refer specifically to the new gen A 45S and CLA 45S. Next Gen in the C-Class will be the 206's. I questioned my dealer before ordering and he was told by Mercedes Canada that the C43 205 series would not be affected. I checked a new 2020 C43 that had just arrived and it sounded the same as the 2019 to me. Google Bastian Bogenshutz as he is AMG Head of Product Planning and I'm sure you'll find the article. From there....your guess is as good as mine...😊
Did that 2018 have the amg performance exhaust?
Yep, both with values opened.
Would you consider the pre face lift (367hp) to face lift (385hp) a big difference in feeling speed wise and 0-60?
It's a shame that the camera angle and overall volume matching is different between these videos. The 2018 model C43 vid has slightly a lower overall volume and what looks to be a different mounting angle. Not sure if the camera used was the same or not. Either way, appreciate the comparison commentary.
Ah yep you are right sorry about that. The 2018 c43 footage was shot back in 2018 when Mercedes gave me a c43 for a weekend to test drive, this was the weekend I decided to order mine! The 2018 had a sunroof so I could suction cup the gopro to the glass. I tried to create a similar position using my seat clamp. It's all recorded with the same gopro but the audio is a little clearer because its mounted further back. Right back to Christmas dinner prep! Have a great Christmas! :D
Does the US version of the C43 get the PPF as well?
Hi mate, Yep the US model has the PPF too. Hope this helps!
Hey like my 2019 c43, do you also suffer with crabbing? 😫
Hey, yep I know exactly what you mean. In freezing temperatures the wheels get cold and when you fully lock the steering it crabs and jumps. Really annoying! It did not do it once in the summer with warmer weather. Seems to happen with all 4matic Mercedes running summer tyres in winter.
@@ABAUTOAMG I had this pretty bad last winter, changed tyre from Pirelli and it went immediately
@@kevinmoore8717 Thanks that's great to hear! I've just ordered 4 new non run flat tyres so I'm looking forward to testing this out. Fingers crossed same happens!
For me, the 19 OPF model sounds better 😊
👍👍👍
Both with Performance exhaust?
Yep both have it :)
What does the PPF stand for?
Hi there, It's a petrol particulate filter. Helps to prevent particulate emissions.
ABAUTO thank you for the reply! Does this affect the exhaust sound or does it have an impact on the performance? Is this a standard on EU versions of the c 43?
No problem. It has no impact on the performance, only the sound. Still sounds great though on the c43. Yeah its on all EU and UK models due to emissions regulations.
Doesnt the exhaust note get played through the speakers now to make it better in the cabin its called active something or another if i remember rightly
seems your C43 pre facelift is without PE exhaust pipe option whereas your facelift one have. not an apple to apple comparison.
Hi Matt, I can confirm 100% that both cars here have the optional AMG performance exhaust.
@@ABAUTOAMG really? because my pre facelift C43 sound different to yours
@@hiuchunp yeah 100% perhaps the camera dident pick up the audio as good? Sounded amazing in person :)
I'm gonna have to agree with Matt Daffy here. I own the 2018 c43 and for it to have a performance exhaust, AMG needs to be written on the steering wheel. Seems it is missing the AMG package in the video.
Seems like the 2019 sounds even better unless it’s the artificial speaker interior sound
It’s a cleaner overall engine sound but the upshifts are more dramatic on the prefacelift. Both sound great.
I think the 2019 actually sounded better somehow
what means PPF ?
petrol particulate filter. It reduces emissions but also buffers sounds a bit :( Its all because of new EU regulations they are having to fit these to new cars.
@@ABAUTOAMG opf ? You mean?
@@Zattoo20 They are the same, it can be referred to as ppf, opf etc :)
Old is better
2018 sounds miles better.
The fake noise from the speakers in the prefacelift is no annoying
Your car is very aggressive
I'm sorry, l really want to like the c43 sound, and in some instances its ok, but generally, to my north american ears it sounds like all the hoopties kids drive with fart can exhausts. If sound is the main criterion, get the c63. lf you want a pretty fast, high quality, and sure footed car at a "bargain" price get the c43.
C43 is still alright in my books, even if it isn't a "true" amg. That being said, I think a lot of people get it for the AMG badge.
C43 sounds better than the newer C63s. The other week I was at the track with a C63s and it was very quiet even at max RPMs, the owner even said he's disappointed in the sound. The C43 sounds way more aggressive and a lot better.
TheApana What year was the c63? it seems that the v8’s are affected most with these regulations, idk if its because low bass notes get muted easily or what but it seems like it. I know for sure the 2012 c63 wasn’t quite.
@@CP-vg4vy It was same year as my C43, 2019. I don't know exactly which year they started to sound shit, but it started with a recent one. If I find a low mileage 2016 C63, I'll think about getting it though.
Strange to see everything on the wrong the side
That’s us here in England ;) Just be glad I didn’t have a cup of tea in the cup holders 😁
@@ABAUTOAMG nice.. 😂😂
