8:23 - I'm glad you're using normal units of measurements, pretty unexpected for a US guy 😅
NICE to see how this is done, and frankly , you made it look easy.
Thanks for the kind words sir. I'm no expert, just a home diy guy and this was my first time welding haha.
@@brandonong2508 Done great man well done
I wish I could find guys like you in Jacksonville, FL to do this kind of work. Nobody will touch my car and it's a shame cuz she is just rusting away on me! Nice work though.
Great work
good job!
Hallo Gutes reparatur wideo.Haben sie auch Bmw e46 schwelle neuer schweisen wideos?
Hi, nice video. What about the wires covers? Do you know how they go positioned in place?
Nice floor repair job and good work on the diagnostics too! I'm a 70's and older car and pickup guy , there's way too much electronic er um STUFF on these modern cars! 😎
Thanks dude! Older cars are way more straightforward with their parts and simpler electrical stuff. I have experience with modern bmws and dealership software, but old cars will always be best.
Trust me those aren't that bad, e36's are still rather simple for what they are and his is obd2 so at least the diagnostic tools can do something and telll you things.
I have an e36 too but an earlier one so it doesn't have obd2, meaning if it has some problem and you've diagnosed everything mechanical and you think it's some electronic bullshit that's bad like a sensor or something, well good luck because you're not gonna have the luxury of plugging in a scanner and just reading what's wrong. Cars that have electronics but no good way of scanning for electronic errors are a pain.
bullshit.
great job man same project going on... do you know what the correct measurement you ended up going with for the gas pedal bracket?
I didn't measure it exactly. I put the carpet back in and lined up the bracket with the cut out in the carpet.
fair thanks brother keep up the good content@@brandonong2508
hey man I'm needing to cut out floorpans from a donor towncar at the salvage yard. any tips on how I can remove them with limited tools? I'm assuming I'll have to use hand tools since I'm not able to use electric/air at the yard
I don't think they'd allow you to get cut out parts since junk yards usually only have part pricing pricing for bolt on parts. I would just find someone local that's parting out and ask to cut a part off. Or you can use plain sheet metal like I did. Third option is to buy a floorpan repair panel from valcas garage or a similar site.
💯👍😎🤙
Did you use flux core mig welder?
I used a mig welder with gas
how did you get the carpet out without removing the dashboard?
do you have AC?
Check out my interior swap video if u want to see carpet removal. I have AC. Dashboard removal isn't necessary if you're willing to cut some of the carpet. You'd need to cut two lines, where the carpet sits on top of the transmission tunnel/under the heater box. It's okay because the cut parts are hidden behind the shifter surround. If you don't want to cut, you'd have to remove dash, heater box, dashboard bracing (need to move steering column out of the way for this), ... long process.
In my video "E36 - Removing Sound Deadening, Finding Water Leak, Fixing Heater Box Coolant Leak" at 11:25, you can see the portion of the old brown carpet that still remains, it's under the heater box.
@@brandonong2508 ahh i get it now... mine is on jackstands for 2-3 years now so it's a bit too late for that , with most of interior removed, also i see that i don't have a pump where you have it, but mine is a touring, and a 2.5l diesel , it's my first car, and the first car i ever worked on
@@brandonong2508 the video will definitely help with assembly when i finish welding
I am not sure but was there not some spot welds between the rusted area and the front subframe rail?
I think you're talking about the long flat edge that is partially primered partially bare metal at 4:40. Yes there were spot welds but most it was rusted so it was easy to remove. Then I just hit it with an angle grinder to clean up the rest.
@@brandonong2508 I was try to get at that I did not see you weld there and its needed for structural rigidity
@@woocash2139 I drilled holes in the new sheet metal and plug welded them at that spot, I just didn't record it.
Wow
wow, what the crap?
Hey what gauge sheet metal did you use for the floor pans?
I think it was 18 gauge
@@brandonong2508 oh wow I’m surprised, I’m repairing some huge holes in my e28 and I did get 18 gauge but now I feel like it’s way too thin and bendy so I feel like I should go with 14 or 16, idk tho 🤷🏼♂️
@@dnipma1535 18 gauge should hold fine once it's welded in. I did some research online and people seemed to say 18 is good
@@brandonong2508 yeah that’s what I’ve read to, I’ll just try and it and see if I need thicker, I can always cut more out
