Yesterday I flushed the coolant, did an oil change, and lubricated the chain on my '09 CBR600RR. All of which I did by watching your three videos on those procedures! Sure was a lot of help and now my bike is ready for the track tomorrow! Thanks CycleCruza!
@@Ricardo_C The hardest part is removing the upper fairing but that's the same on both 08 and 09. Removing the lower engine fairing on the 09 is easy, its the same as the lower fairing on the 08 with two extra bolts.
thanks! I appreciate it! Honestly, although the fire blade is a great ridiculously fast bike, you'll probably appreciate the 07+ cbr600rr more, really more suited for the streets, it has a gas gauge and has way more power than need. I've been riding mine for almost a year and the power still gives me an adrenalin rush. You will not wish for more power...
I agree, it was cleaned up as soon as I finished and I knew not to allow my dog in the garage when I was working on this job. Thanks for dropping the tip though, good to let people know that.
You're right! BUT the schedule lists "NOTE 4" next to Coolant, NOTE 4 = (verbatim) Replace every 2 years or at indicated odometer interval, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. My bike is a 2008 is 5 years old, I have no idea when the coolant was changed last, the dealer said they just checked it. I've owned the bike for almost a year, it was time to change the coolant.
Hey CycleCruza! I was able to do my first oil change and coolant flush on an 07 cbr 600rr I just picked up. And thanks to your DIY videos, it made the job alot more easier and enjoyable to do. Thanks again for your informative videos man! Keep up the good work!
Cruza, you're awesome! Thanks to your video of which bike to start with and etc, you saved me from buying a brand new 1000RR fireblade to begin. I took your advice about learning to be a good rider and to learn how to handle different powered bikes, I now own an used 250r as you told so, and i'm getting pretty confident with it already! Thanks bro, keep up the AWESOME work!!
hello, sorry, today on my cbr600rr I followed your guide to change the coolant but I could not put no more than two liters. So I looked at the workshop manual and it is explained that to drain the old liquid, as well as remove the screw near the pump, the water drain screw of the cylinders must also be removed. This is because I believe I have not completely removed the liquid because I have not been able to put more than 2 liters of it despite having run the engine for almost 10 minutes.
If u flushed it out 2-3 times don't worry about getting every single drop of distilled water out. When it stops dripping, then plug it up and put your coolant in. MAKE SURE U PUT THE SEALING WASHER BACK ON WHEN YOU PUT THE PLUG BACK ON!!!! If you don't you will have leaks for sure.
The Official 2007/2008 Honda cbr600rr repair manual says to replace the coolant every two years or 24k miles, whichever comes first, so basically replace the coolant every two years.
replace the coolant every 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. So unless you put 24k miles on your in less than 2 years, you will need to replace your coolant every 2 years.
I've put 5k miles on my bike, has close to 15k miles now and my bike still rides like new, smooth as butter. Go to the forums, it's well know that these bikes can run hot. After 230 the fan will come on I believe but I never even got to the temp. However , these bikes are not meant for commuting, I try to stay out in the country with minimal stops.Btw, you are talking Celsius right?
The 2008 honda cbr600rr didn't feel all that much different from the 250 when it came to the size of it but the power was a serious shock. lol You have to handle the corners correctly. The 250 was great preparation for riding the 600rr.
lol my mate has a 600rr, I own a 750Srad (injection) ... on the track, my gearbox went bust, so he let me take his bike the last session/run. WOW the RR really is an amazingly easy to drive machine, and it pulls reasonably well too. But you dont have to handle the corners correctly, well, by no means like on a 750. I always have to look out for highsiders or the rear stepping away, my mate doesnt even bother anymore. He just jams the throttle open EVERY corner. The 600RR doesnt have the punch to highside...
You leave the radiator cap off so you can bleed the air out of the system as shown , It should not spew out, if it did it might be because it was removing the air out of the system. idk You might want to take it to a professional mechanic if you are having any problems. All I did was go by the Official Honda/s service manual's instructions.Disclaimer: Btw, this video was for entertainment purposes only.
The service manual defines the antifreeze drain procedure as follows: -Remove the water pump bolt ... drain the coolant -Remove cylinder drain bolt ... drain the coolant from the cylinder. In your instructions skipped antifreeze drianing from the cylinder block. But you flush the system with water. Fine. But because of the remaining water in the system, as I see it, you do NOT get a 50/50 mixture of glycol and water. In warm climates, this is normal, but if wintering in my country takes place at temperatures below -35/-31 Celsius/Fahrenheit, then the mix ratio may be important.
What was the point in flushing all the coolant through to get rid off all of the old coolant then just putting new coolant in you then have distilled water still there what you have not flushed
Hey, I've just finished tha liquid change on my CBR 600 RR but in the end I added just 2 liter of fluid, but according to Honda it contains 3 liter. Could it be possible that some distilled water is still inside the system ? And if, what can I do ? I'm pretty sure there's no air inside
All I can say is life saving thank you for this video took your time to be very detailed it was my first time doing the flush and with your guidance it went well and my bike is up and running smoothly after it started overheating this morning just bought a Honda cbr 600rr 2009 and they didn't put any coolant but thanks to this video got it done thank you 💪💪
Question! I just did this job and notice that reservoir tube that goes to the left side isn’t connected and I was trying to figure out where exactly it connects to
I can't get 3 liters of coolant in my bike. Don't know what I did wrong. I opened the drain on the engine and the drain at the pump. Then I refilled but only got 1.5 liters in. The manual says it holds 3.15 liters. Help.
What about the cylinder drain bolt? Do we need to remove this too? In the manual it says to remove it to fully drain the coolant but I don't see you doing this in the video. Is it mandatory? Do you think we can fully flush it without doing that? Thanks in advance!
Is it necessary to keep the engine running until fan kicks in and thermostat opens after filling the system with coolant? Watched some videos where they recommend doing that and don't know what is the correct procedure. Thanks
had to travel to homedepot multiple times to figure this out, and surprisingly little info online: what size socket do I need for the coolant drain bolt?
Good video and very easy to understand. Im going to do a coolant flush on my 06 cbr 600rr. I seen a video on here saying you have to make sure their are no air bubbles from looking at the top of the radiator?
Cycle cruza the 2009 cbr600 I bought had 0 Coolent the bike starts right up and runs perfect the I just found out that the reserve tank has a hole in it is my bike toast ? Or will it be fine when I fix the issue ?
I'm sure it was just air, no biggie. after all it's just a coolant flush. But i appreciate for the tips and all the vids you made! Digging the maintenance series, looking forward to maybe a 'brake fluid change' vid
Thanks for the quick reply, i've just got one last concern. in step 16 you emphasized to leave the 'radiator cap off'. then i've followed through until step 19 when i turn off the bike coolant spewed out of the radiator! did i overfill it? i used 2 quarts of coolant, filling the reserve tank and the rest in the radiator.
@cyclecruza in step 15 when you put the drain bolt back on do you have to make sure that the distilled water is completely flushed out before putting new coolant in? because i can't seem to drain all of it out completely. i've even tried tilting the bike on it's left side to make sure as much water is drained out as possible.
how many bottles of hp coolant should i buy? premixed so i can just fill it up after cleaning with just hp coolant right? btw haven't seen any tutorial page thats better.
Thanks! I try to be very thorough with my how-to videos to make it easier for everybody. HP coolant is premixed already, nothing else to add. You only need two bottles of Honda HP Coolant.
CycleCruza Thanks for the video! The manual calls for 3.33Qt coolant capacity, is 2 bottles (2qt) of the coolant enough? Is it because there will be 1Qt remaining in the system from the flush?
Qucik question I topped my reserve bottle up few days back and its gone down slowly over few days not done many miles no leaks any were is this bad and it staying at normall temps so cant work out why ... but great vid
Cyclecruza...kool name.thanks for the very detailed coolant flush video,it helped me out alot with my wife's 07 600rr.my r6 was alot easier...THANKS A MILLION bro.
hi, cyclecruza, i've been watching your video for over a year and i am your big fan, i just started riding last year after watching your video and i still have lots of things to be learned. i got my own 08 cbr600rr this summer, im very excited but i still have some maintain work to do on it since it is a second hand bike, can you make a video on How to flush the brake fluid on cbr600? i searched youtube and nobody has ever done a brake fluid change video on cbr600rr, so i think i may need your help, any replies would be appreciated! thank you!
Hey thanks for watching! Actually, I have the brake fluid flush video footage but have yet to edit the footage. I hope to get it up soon, just need to find the time.
Dude, I need some advice. I noticed u went from the cbr250r to the cbr600rr, did u have any problems handling the 600 or did the 250 give u what u needed to be able handle the 600? Thanku in advance for any info u could give me about handling the cbr600rr
Freakin' dealer hit me up for $3.89 for that tiny copper washer. Should have been a whole bag of them for that price. I'm going to check the local hardware stores and match up the size (6.3mm) so they won't screw me over next time. It's just a copper washer for crying out loud. BMW even includes them with their oil filters since you need it for their drain plug. In a perfect world Honda would include one with every bottle of antifreeze.
You really don't need a new copper washer on a drain plug or brake fitting unless damaged. The soft copper washer molds to the engine and bolt side, providing an air tight seal. Now copper head gaskets DO need to be replaced new every time, not these little washers. Tip of the day. RH DSD
Hey man, i got a problem wih heating issue. My bike heat goes as high as 105 after 20-30 minute under 70-100 km/h some time it goes high as 100 and stayed there if I use 80-120 kmh is this normal?
This is a great video since I purchased a 2010 Honda CBR600rr with 3000 miles on her. Your video really helped me even though I am a 50cc moped racing engine Genius. My question is: Does the CBR hold 2 quarts of honda coolant or 3 quarts? . I bought 3 but only put two in. Great video and thank you sir. RH DSD
Honda PRO HP coolant doesn't require water, use straight out of the bottle. The distilled water is to flush the radiator and reservoir, not to mix with the coolant. I try to stick with OEM Honda everything except the oil, which I prefer Shell Rotella T-6 5w-40 Full synth.
CycleCruza What's up CC, The premixed coolant is water based. Waterless coolant is not and it gives your engine the maximum protection against damage. Plus, if you use this product, you will never have to do a coolant change again. Look up Evans Waterless Coolant on the net and the Tube.
PS What is a proper temp for the engine to run at on the 08'? My fan doesn't cut on till it hits 175 degrees. If I do some freeway riding and I come to a stop it will hover at 211-220 until I start riding again. Normal or nah?
Cycle, what is the best coolent I can get for my CBR600RR? My engine gets pretty hot so I need something good. Are there any other options I can do to my bike to keep the engine cooler?
Life On Two Wheels Your engine is always going to be hot because that's how they are designed to be. It's a high performance motorcycle. My recommendation is to ONLY stick with Honda OEM coolant. Your engine will not get any cooler with any other coolant and you could even damage your engine with some other coolants. It's always best to stick with OEM.
+CycleCruza Well, I'm no expert but how does dust get into the coolant? I can understand it getting into engine oil through the air filter, combustion chamber, past the piston rings, etc. But the cooling system is supposed to be a closed system, which is why you never open the rad cap when the engine is hot.
nicely done. BTW if you have pets, NEVER leave coolant in a bucket on on the floor. It is sweet tasting and VERY toxic. A dog or cat will drink it and then it is all over.

Big S/O to CycleCruza for easy to follow bike hacks! You are doing us new 600cbr riders a huge favor. Keep it up!
Seriously, This was one of the best step by steps of anything on youtube, Nice and easy no BS. I wish he owned a DR650
Bro, I'm in the process of servicing my bike ..these have been the most thorough instructions & steps so far!! Thank You for sharing!! God Bless..
Every 16,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first. This is from the official Honda service manual for the 2008 honda cbr600rr.
Have you thought about using engine ice instead of coolant

Disculpa cuánto refrigerante lleva en total una cbr 600rr año 2007?
I'm glad you don't have any annoying music or weird animals noise in the background like the others. Good job man!
thanks! Yeah torque specs are super important, I will always try to include them.
I agree, it was cleaned up as soon as I finished and I knew not to allow my dog in the garage when I was working on this job. Thanks for dropping the tip though, good to let people know that.

Thanks PsychoCruza!
This old vid is great. Much appreciated!
the repair manual refers to them as trim clips, I call them push pins as well.

What’s the 2-3 hoses hanging from bottom when I took off my fairings I seen them on my 2013cbr600rr.
So on 6-13 do you have to start the bike everytime to? And how do you know when the air is out. Where did you get the washer from
But how do you empty the over fill tank under seat? 🤔 Very hard to get to with the bends in plastic even with hose

hi, is it necessary also remove the cylinder coolant drain screw?
So should the coolant be up to the upper line or between upper and lower line??
Just bought a 05 cbr600rr it has 14k miles. Should I change the coolant? Or anything else I should do? Thanks.
I have a 2013 - is this the same procedure ?
For future readers of this comment:
I had a 2013 CBR600RR, it was very similar but the fairings are shaped different
Where did u get drain bolt sealing washer
Thanks for the quick reply, i've just got one last concern. in step 16 you emphasized to leave the 'radiator cap off'. then i've followed through until step 19 when i turn off the bike coolant spewed out of the radiator! did i overfill it? i used 2 quarts of coolant, filling the reserve tank and the rest in the radiator.
Any thoughts on Engine Ice coolant? I'm not racing, I don't live in too warm of a climate, but these CBR's run warm (mainly referring to traffic).
@cyclecruza in step 15 when you put the drain bolt back on do you have to make sure that the distilled water is completely flushed out before putting new coolant in? because i can't seem to drain all of it out completely. i've even tried tilting the bike on it's left side to make sure as much water is drained out as possible.
I just did a radiator flush on my 09 cbr 600rr and the check engine light came on...why would it come on?
Thanks brother....Just did my coolant flush and oil change. That video was extremely helpful.
how many bottles of hp coolant should i buy? premixed so i can just fill it up after cleaning with just hp coolant right? btw haven't seen any tutorial page thats better.
Do you have to put a new sealing washer on it? I'm pressed for time and will be doing this tomorrow lol
Cyclecruza...kool name.thanks for the very detailed coolant flush video,it helped me out alot with my wife's 07 600rr.my r6 was alot easier...THANKS A MILLION bro.
Why not use a 50:50 mix of vinegar and water?

When do you do this type of maintenance?? Like at what KM?
Cyclecruza i got a question man. Is this exact same procedure on a 2007 cbr1000rr?
You have the patience of a saint
Dude, I need some advice. I noticed u went from the cbr250r to the cbr600rr, did u have any problems handling the 600 or did the 250 give u what u needed to be able handle the 600? Thanku in advance for any info u could give me about handling the cbr600rr

CC,
I would also recommend using a waterless coolant. This will greatly extend the engine and cooling life use.

What's up CC,
The premixed coolant is water based. Waterless coolant is not and it gives your engine the maximum protection against damage. Plus, if you use this product, you will never have to do a coolant change again. Look up Evans Waterless Coolant on the net and the Tube.
CycleCruza what's the difference between the shell rotella t-6 5w 40 full synth and the motul 7100 10-40 full synth ?
different brands and the one you mentioned has a higher viscosity when cold lol
Hi cyclecruza, how many liters of u acoolant you added?
Is this similar for a 2003-2006 CBR600rr?
Very good detailed video. 👍
Why are you only putting in 2 qts of coolant when the manual say it take 3.3 qts.
+J_KOJAY Yeah, mine takes 2.99 quarts. I got lazy and did not confirm it with the manual beforehand so back to the dealer for another quart.
PS What is a proper temp for the engine to run at on the 08'? My fan doesn't cut on till it hits 175 degrees. If I do some freeway riding and I come to a stop it will hover at 211-220 until I start riding again. Normal or nah?
My '06 CBR1000 runs at 175 until I get into town, then it'll stay at 212 to 220 until I hit the highway again. Seems to be normal riding temps.
Confirm also.. Normal operating temps start at about 160... Fan kicks on at 220
Is it mandatory to replace sealing washer?
HI GUY! DO YOU HAVE A TUTORIAL FOR CB1000R 2013 (COOLANT FLUSH)?
Hey man. How often should I change my coolant. I have a 08 cbr600 with 9500 miles
You Make it look easy ....I get so nervous when attempting these adamant il mess it up 😅
Shouldn't you let it get up to temp when you flush it ? To let the thermostat open
Mark Eldridge Manual says NO.
Never deal with coolant hot, especially when it comes to taking of the radiator cap. Lookup a video for why, it's not pleasant.
+MrGuruatEverything never said open it hot , obviously you don't want hot coolant all over you
Really well done and explained. Great video. Ta.
This was very helpful. Thank CycleCruza
When should you do a flush on a bike?
awesome I will do this next month
Great job!
How many miles are on your bike?
Cycle, what is the best coolent I can get for my CBR600RR? My engine gets pretty hot so I need something good. Are there any other options I can do to my bike to keep the engine cooler?
Life On Two Wheels Your engine is always going to be hot because that's how they are designed to be. It's a high performance motorcycle. My recommendation is to ONLY stick with Honda OEM coolant. Your engine will not get any cooler with any other coolant and you could even damage your engine with some other coolants. It's always best to stick with OEM.
OK. Thank you so much for your help!
Life On Two Wheels use engine ice

Thanks guys!
followed this to a t and it started overheating. then changed the thermo and it still overheats. burped it a bunch and everything, anyone got a clue?
why do you do a coolant flush? how long is the coolant good for?
manual says up to 2 years, but if you live in a dry dusty state like AZ you probably want to do it every year to be safe.
+CycleCruza Well, I'm no expert but how does dust get into the coolant? I can understand it getting into engine oil through the air filter, combustion chamber, past the piston rings, etc. But the cooling system is supposed to be a closed system, which is why you never open the rad cap when the engine is hot.
Most coolants say they are good for 40,000 miles or so. Although it should be changed well before then.
chris rawley until u see it change color
What is size of drain bolt
Nice video man, well detailed.
nicely done. BTW if you have pets, NEVER leave coolant in a bucket on on the floor. It is sweet tasting and VERY toxic. A dog or cat will drink it and then it is all over.
thanks!
how many miles should you flush the radiator?
love your vids man
