Laser welding looks like it would be great for production welding with how fast it is and precise fabrication with how little it warps material. I would really like to get my hands on one of those 20k machines.

What's the point of laser here??? In the red aiming dot like any miter saw???? - In fact, we see ordinary semi-automatic carbon dioxide welding!!! Simply, the holder itself is in a different form factor!!!
It would be better for humans to do it instead of a robot in a manufacture building
They always show how fast it is but never test it's strength. It's a cool process for sure
It is even stronger than normal welds but the machines are just insanely expensive
The weld is advertised at 200 times stronger, it focuses the heat in just the one area. And makes a better penetration.
It has 60% more penetration than Mig. Meaning it's better
Full pen is full pen. Laser isnt stronger, it just penetrates fully more easily because energy is so focused. If there are no pores or defects, it's welded. Now if they were showing butt welding 3/8 plate TIG vs laser, that's where you'd see a pass for pass and filled material vs filled material strength difference. You can fully pen 3/8 with laser without bevel preps. You have to have deep preps filled with weld to pen 3/8
There are tons of strength videos online. It’s actually extremely strong. The metal its made for isn’t giant i beams.

On a thin gauge butt joint you can typically achieve complete joint penatration up to .100 anything more you'd either need an open root or a groove

They hold up pretty good, but if you use a grinder to flatten it to perfection it wont hold at all since its not melting the actual metal pieces together, but rather putting a layer over it like hot glue

Lasers use wire?
They use them without wire too, but that’s just fusing, and ultimately that’s steal from material that’s already there to fill a crack, so you’re technically thinning it where it’s joined.

they penetrate usually up to 4mm or so. The settings just have to be correct for the material.
