    ONE OF THE BEST COMBAT EPISODES,SUSPENSE,A DERANGED GERMAN SNIPER,WHAT ELSE COULD YOU ASK FOR?

    Thanks for posting all these great episodes! "Combat!" was an excellent show. The Direction and Filmography were equal to Hollywood movies of the same era. Stories were always well written and had great moral wisdom attached. I was a little kid and never missed an episode when first aired. Brings back fond memories...

    Wounded German was just trying to avenge his men! Great episode! Especially at the end when wounded and dying he said the names of his men!

    This episode is one of my favourites. The producers regarded even the enemy, the German, solders, were human beings and could anger and feel sorrow for the death of their comrades.

    A WWII American rifle squad put out a lot of firepower.
    The M1 Garand was a magnificent rifle and gave the single GI a 2 or 3 to 1 advantage in volume of fire over their bolt action armed adversaries. The MG 42 balanced the equation in many situations but never overcame the 1-on-1 disadvantage for the Germans and even the Japanese.

    • @emansnas
      @emansnas 2 роки тому

      I believe that is likely valid. The Garand was a heavy sombitch but very accurate even with iron sights (I've fired it). No experience with the MG-42 but from what I understand it was a typical German engineering marvel. As for Yip small arms, fogeddaboudit, all crap. Including their grenades.

    ybenye - Indeed this was a very good episode, most of them are, and yes a soldier on any side of a war is a man with feelings, dreams, desires.
    In studying the Germen soldier of WWII, most were not fighting for Hitler’s view of the world. They were defending the honor and pride of their country and people as any soldier would do. Unfortunately the use of propaganda lead to a lot of misbeliefs and the army became a pawn for Hitler’s lunacy.

    Sympathetic towards the German kid soldiers, I don't blame them in the least for running. Turns out there are scared kids on both sides. I was one in Vietnam.

    War is politics by other means. Each individual is responsible for their own acts but acts within pragmatic limits on their options and uncertain information to make judgments. In WW2 my father was in the US Marines and my wife''s father was a Korean conscript in the Japanese Imperial Army. My cousin died defending Que Son from Ho Chi Minh who my high school teacher flew guns to for the OSS. My dad saw Nagasaki after the Bomb and I was in the US Army in Germany when the Wall came down. We learn,

    Very well said.
    Der Deutschlander Soldaten became maligned much in the same way the Vietnam veteran became the scapegoat for some rather selfish people unable to separate the soldier from the politician.
    It's also a fact Germany was also engaged in a war against Communism, and as one who had relatives who voluntarily enlisted and fought for Germany in WW2, I am proud that someone in my family stepped up to try defeat the ideology that led to many post WW2 problems in Europe and the world.

      The "war against communism" was largely propaganda. The real war was to subjugate or eliminate inferior "races." This is the logical end of Darwinism...there is only one human race, one blood, one gene pool back to our original parents.

    Did anyone not guess the kid was dead when he left with the German? Might as well as had on a red Star Trek shirt... Sorry guys, but I've watched over 120 episodes in about a month - they get a little predictable sometimes. But I still loved this as a kid when it aired and still think its great today. Much better in most every way than modern shows only able to do about 11-13 episodes a season rather than Combat! with over 30 hour shows. I have learned a lot about history, weapons, and tactics since it aired, so I do notice some of the prop, continuity and other flaws - I do try not to get too distracted by them and keep a good perspective. Bottom line is it is a great series.

    Never run around in enemy or unfamiliar territory by yourself...Use the "buddy system" (same as when swimming).... safer that way. As an MP we always had our partner nearby, especially when looking for enemy, incendiary devices, or what have you. Be smart. Because idiots back then are no different than idiots of today.

    Seeing as the Pistole 38 was the most prevalent sidearm in the Wehrmacht I think I've only seen maybe 4 or 5 so far in this series. Has to be the charisma attached to the P08 Luger. Considering that I could have bought P38's for practically pennies back when this series was made it's hard to understand why the armorers for the series didn't use more.

    • @memphoonthemississippi642
      @memphoonthemississippi642 9 років тому +1

      +ShastaPacificRoad I have looked for the P-38s as well and have missed them all - good eye. The props dept. definitely loved their Lugers, even on higher ranks who would have carried a .380 (9mm kurz) or smaller caliber pistol.

    • @ShastaPacificRoad
      @ShastaPacificRoad 9 років тому +1

      +MemphoOnTheMississippi Guessing it's more the stereotype of the German Army carrying them as to why there are more P.08's than P38's. Hard to tell from the holsters if any Ruby's or Ortiges or Star's or ..... are being carried or if we're looking at empty holsters. You got it right - small pistols were more marks of rank or status than serious fighting weapons as in the US or Canada and to a certain extent Mexico.
