- Today the lords of rock Led Zeppelin are back in full force. We take Another deep dive into the heaviest band in history with Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham… It’s the story of A key track from their landmark fourth album, Led Zeppelin IV otherwise known as Rock N Roll and it actually came out of an improv jam session while the band was taking a break from writing another classic track. Written in only 15 minutes, it was like the band pulled this one out of thin air. The legendary guitarist even called the creation of this song, “spontaneous combustion” and it was a big middle finger to the critics who claimed the band had lost their rock edge. Now, decades later it is still revered as an all-time standard. It’s the tale of the unlimited fist-pumping, heart-stopping classic… NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

Hey music junkies, Professor of Rock, always here to celebrate the greatest artists and the greatest songs of all time. If you’ve even ordered one of those time-life cd collections of a tv commercial You’ll dig this channel of musical nostalgia. Make sure to, subscribe below right now. you’ll dig it! Also to keep the interviews flowing and videos coming out consider supporting us on patreon. Where we have extra content!
So today we’re giving you our latest edition of #1 in Our Hearts… Led Zeppelin style. On this show we honor songs that were so unbelievably great, they absolutely should've been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. But you know sometimes even the best songs come up short for reasons out of their control. Whether poor promotion, lack of radio play, or maybe even just being released ahead of their time, a lot of songs that deserved that top spot just didn’t get there.
So on this show, we put them back where they belong. On previous episodes we have covered Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd, You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC, and Rock N Roll All Nite by Kiss. Definitely all songs that should have reached that top spot.
Today we are getting into another song with Rock and Roll in the title. In fact, that is the title. It’s Led Zeppelin’s kick it into overdrive jam Rock and Roll, from their untitled fourth album. You know, Led Zeppelin didn’t release a lot of singles. But when they did, it seems like they never got much love on the charts. I think they had something like 10 charting songs on the US Billboard Hot 100. The highest, Whole Lotta Love did come in at #4 in 1969. But if you can believe it, that was their only Top 10 showing.
On average, Led Zeppelin’s singles scored a #36 ranking, barely making them a Top 40 band in the US… which let’s be honest… is shameful. I mean Zeppelin unleashed such a power-packed catalog, overflowing with classic rock standards… you would think on those rare occasions when they did release a single… they would be guaranteed to hit the Top 10.
Well, unfortunately, Rock and Roll was one of those Hot 100 casualties. I’m not going to tell you where it landed just yet, but I will say that it should have done a lot better. In the meantime, see if you can guess how it did, and I’ll come back to its chart position later in the episode. - Розваги
Poll: What is your pick for the greatest "encore" song in rock history?
Surrender.......... Cheap Trick.
We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions
Might not know this one the other side of the Pond but Market Square Heroes was always a rousing end to any Marillion show
Hey Jude Paul McCartney. Knebworth 1990. (It’s on UA-cam)
Songbird Fleetwood Mac
Going Home Dire Straits
American Pie Garth Brooks (Rock meets Country)
Kiss rock n roll all night.
Piano Man - Billy Joel;
Rosalita, Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen.
I am a teenager today and I am still discovering music from Zeppelin to AC-DC to all sorts of Metal and such, and I am enjoying the process every step of the way!
Good for you man. I was born in 87 so this stuff was a bit before my time too, but I remember getting my first few tastes of classic rock and just going deeper and deeper into everything it has to offer. And going through the Zeppelin catalog really was an amazing experience. And you have it all here at your finger tips with UA-cam and Spotify. Enjoy this period of discovery!
They were always an Album Rock band to me. You listened to every song on every album. I never thought about singles when I discovered them in 73.
You are so correct. I initially found them as we had an album oriented rock radio station that played whole albums WMMS. I fell in love with albums.
The only single worth getting was The Immigrant Song because it had Hey Hey What Can I Do on the flip side.
Zeppelin was and still is so ahead of it’s time man. No band nowadays can even touch their feet.
Still, people say that about so many bands.
Johnny. Many bands from this era couldn't be touched nowadays. But for me Zeppelin is the most untouchable
They were the best at rehashing other people's songs and plagiarizing lyrics.
@@Executioner_of_TimeHaha tired old cheap shot nonsense from mom’s basement.
@jetcat132 Haha, tired old rehashed mom's basement comment. That's about as original as Zep was.
Who doesn’t smile when this guy talks?
What an incredible delivery, voice, pitch and emotion.
Great job. Thank you.
His voice reminds me of Jim Belushi’s voice
I was so privileged and blessed to be a teenager when Led Zeppelin first released their albums, including this song!
What a great time for music.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980
The best!
Zeppelin IV & Physical Graffiti are my favorites, but I love all of their albums to various degrees. I go through phases where I will listen to their earlier albums then switch it up to the later ones. I have also spent countless hours listening to bootlegs of their concerts. They were truly the greatest rock and roll band!
I have never heard a bad LedZepplin song in my life and I'm soon to be 65. I love every single one of them.
I imagine many people dislike Hot Dog. It was always too country sounding.
@@mylovesongs2429 I actually love that song lol!
Candy Store Rock is pretty terrible....so is Misty Mountain Hop.
@@RadioMartyT1B i always liked Misty Mountain Hop.
Me too
Everything Zeppelin touched was gold. Battle Of Evermore, Living Loving Maid, Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Whole Lotta Love, Stairway To Heaven!! Literally Everything 🤘
The Ocean, Ramble On, and Good Times, Bad Times are my faves.
In the evening was my favourite. It’s off the in through the out door album. How old ami? I swear I was 18 yesterday! 😢 My mind thinks I’m 25, but my body reminds me I’ll be 60 in a few months. 🤔🤷🏼♂️
10 years gone, Kashmir, Rain Song…
Exactly. To call the impromptu composition of a rock classic by the greatest rock band in history a "total accident" is pure clickbait. But I still love you, Adam. Lol!
@@paulredinger5830 Young punk! ;)
For anyone discovering Zepplin for the first time, I envy you. It’s a fabulous experience.
Zeppelin III was a great album, a melodic masterpiece. veriety is key and it showed more of their ability.
I agree. I love it.
Not a dull moment. Sheer talent.
They were absolutely MAGNIFICENT!! Nobody will ever be Zeppelin!! My favorite since I heard them when I was 10 in 1970!
Everyone else was listening to Steely Dan. I was tripping on Whole Lotta Love. Saw them in Seattle in 1970. Skipped studying for my French exam, flunked the course, but it was definitely worth it.
My fave too but never had a chance to see them live. Rock n Roll might have Been used for encores but it was always reported Led Zep felt after 3 hrs job was done, no encores.
This was the opening song when I saw them in 1973.
The Zeppelin catalog has so many playable hits its has to be the most high energy collection from any band.
Rock amd roll is one of the best rock songs ever. That is why 100s of bands have covered it and continue to do so. Everyone in the room lights up when rock and roll comes on the radio
It's so hard to pick a favorite Zeppelin album or song. I'm amazed how their music stands the test of time.
I was lucky enough to see Led Zeppelin live at MSG 3 times - '73, '75 & '77! Great times. Great memories.
Awesome 🤘🏼
Lucky!@
You saw Led Zeppelin at their peak. I got to see them in 2007 London O2 arena.
Rock and Roll is my favourite all time song. Whenever I listen to it, it is indeed a really good day.
This is my perfect album - there isn't a weak song on it. And it perfectly personifies the band and all their influences and facets in one incredible album. Balls out rock, soft acoustic, mandolin, four sticks and that crazy time sig on Black Dog. It's a masterpiece. I have the four symbols tattooed on my back now...
Went to see Van Halen for their 5150 tour. BTO opens, that already makes it great. Van Halen does their thing, amazing. Come back on for the encore and Sammy brings out Ann Wilson and you guessed it, they blew the roof off of the arena in Seattle with a blazing cover of RocknRoll. What a way to end that show.
I also saw VH on that tour with BTO, both bands were really great. I wasn't fortunate enough to see Ann Wilson at the show I attended but it was very enjoyable anyway.
I saw the same tour but it sounds like you got the better deal with Ann Wilson showing up. Honestly, I have fonder memories of BTO than VH from that show. Eddie was hungover and the venue had waaay to much security.
So cool!
If this was in 1985, I saw the same tour. Sammy and the Circle also did this song when I saw them 2015.
Holy ####, if there was a bootleg of that, it should get a million freaking views! 🙌
What’s hilarious is Robert Plants choir teacher told him he should take a shop class. He didn’t have any future singing. 😂
You find bad critics all over. 😂😊
Yea, someone who was an older person that'd been around the band Slade when they were forming said that they should find some other singer than Noddy Holder because all he could do was scream and make a bunch of noise and they'd be better off with someone else.
Slade went on to sell more singles in less time in England than The Beatles did and probably influenced more bands than any other Rock group ever, Ozzy Osborne himself said Noddy Holder probably has the greatest voice ever in the history of Rock.
Scream and make a bunch noise indeed, he sure did, all the way into the record books.
@@dukecraig2402 and all the way to the bank!
Thank the Lord he didn’t listen to the choir teacher!
On a different note, but on the same line; Billy Graham was told in Bible school that he could not preach by one of his instructors. So much for opinions of some educators.
The power of Zeppelin compels you ...
Adam you're not alone with the memories of jammin with these fantastic songs, I used a hair brush for a mic & have very fond memories of my dad & the things we both liked & enjoyed the time we spent together!! I think about him daily. There literally hasn't been a single day that's gone by since I lost him in 2001 that he hasn't been in my thoughts & I talk about him VERY often. The other person who meant the world to me was grandma. My dad's mom, I was extremely close to her & I can't wait to join them... one day!! Thanks for all that you do, your love of music & your memories & stories of your dad.
I was a young teenager when Zep 4 was unleashed onto the world. This was the album that yanked me all the way in from top 40ish kind of music to pure Rock & Roll and Led Zeppelin! Black Dog, Rock and Roll, and of course Stairway are at the top! Love your channel Adam and your in depth stories of my favorite times.
One of my first favorite songs as a kid. I was so young that I didn’t even know who the band was. I just knew I love everything about it. Still love this song.
Led Zeppelin helped make me a rock star with my group of friends for a couple of weeks. I heard LZ 1 on KMET in L.A., hustled down to the local record store to buy it, and gathered all my homies together for a memorable listen. Who really cares if their records never hit #1 - it doesn't change how we feel about them. In relation to that, there should've been separate categories - rock 'n roll, soul, mellow rock, etc.
This should be the band that is too good for chart success. There are so many songs of theirs that are just too magnificent to compete with all the ordinary, poppy, top 40-ish songs vying for the top spot. Zep are in a league of their OWN.
Zeppelin 2 3 Houses Graffiti Presence and In Through The Out Door all were at number 1 for weeks but no they never had a number one song.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 absolutely. Tell that to Beatle's fans who think their favourite band is untouchable. Just because they sold more albums than anyone else doesn't necessarily mean they were the best. Beaver has hundreds of millions of views on UA-cam and a hundred million followers but him and his music will be completely forgotten in 20 years or even sooner!
All albums have an interesting and genius level of execution. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite. Yes, Kashmir is the best all genre song of all time, but I won’t commit to the best LZ album. They, in my opinion are the best band in history.
First saw Led Zeppelin in 77 in NY City. BEST ROCK BAND EVER !!! These guys were the GODS OF ROCK THROUGHOUT THE 70s. There will NEVER be anything like LED ZEP ever again. ✌️
I envy you. I saw Robert Plant a few years ago.
I saw Page and Plant in Boston in 1998. That was a blast.
Caught my 8 year old, standing on his bed, in front of his mirror, classic rock radio cranked to 11, playing air guitar. I just smiled and closed the door. He was in his happy place and so was I.
I'm sure we all appreciate the clip of your dad, having heard your stories about the legendary man who was such a great influence in your life! Thank you!
Zeppelin was the most awesome band ever!! Not just the hits, but all of the deep cuts too! Very few songs I would throw out of a set!!!
All four guys made the magic.
I agree 100%!! I dig deep into the songs of bands to find nuggets that most never listen to and Zeppelin is one of those bands, along with Deep Purple and Foghat and Savoy Brown.
Love zeppelin they are one of few bands I don't have a favorite song frome. . It changes depending on my mood . Might be houses of the holey or it might be immigrant song or the battle for evermore . Depends on my mood and they could do it all.
Their songs in that album still resonates even today...keep on rock and rollin'!
Zeppelin IV man what an album. Blows anything from today away. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada 🍁
Thanks my friend. Always enjoy seeing your comments!
It has got the power. Cheers 🍻
4 is a total master piece in Rack History for sure and love most all styles of music Great episode!
For a minute I thought you were from Boston. ❤
When you are a rock god group it was so easy for them to pull this off, they will rock on into rock history, true legends 😎💕Everything Led Zeppelin did was a #1 hit in my eyes
In our hearts, where classics truly belong.
III was my first Zep album. I was like THIS is Zeppelin? Gimme more! It wasn’t long before I had them all, including the Hey Hey What Can I Do single. Still my favorite rock band.
Hey Hey What Can I Do is the best!
I rode my Schwinn Stingray to the Jack in the box. Juke box had Hey Hey what can I do. Spent lots of dimes there.
This album will always be on the playlists of the younger generation. It will continue to hold up unlike the songs that topped the charts of that era.
We used to say bands like Zeppelin weren't commercial. That's a good thing.
Thanks Mark.
Same with Pink Floyd.
I didn’t know Ian Stewart played piano on “Rock And Roll”. Wow!
THE Ian Stewart. How bout that?
Hence “Boogie with Stu” on Physical Graffiti
Led Zeppelin has always been one of my favorites! I'm grateful your Dad was into all the great music to help build such a great Passion and knowledge for music in you! Love the stories! Thanks for keeping the music alive!
My favorite!!
I usually don't care for covers but I went to see Heart on their Dog & Butterfly tour and they played Rock and Roll... knocked it out of the park! One of the best covers I've ever seen.
Heart almost always closes their shows with a Zeppelin cover - and kills it.
Heart is the ,ONLY band that could ever cover Zeppelin?
I saw Heart in that tour! They *opened HARD* with Rock and Roll. I was 19, had only discovered Zeppelin like two years before and I remember thinking "wait... whaaaat?! what's happening?"
One of the best parts about the professor is Rock is when the show is over, you know you're going to going to go listen to the whole song...probably with headphones, and you're going to sing or play your air guitar... and I'm right there with you...
So right. Have been singing billy squier all day after saw the excellent analysis of that much under rated singer.
Led Zeppelin III is nearly a concept album. It shows the connection between then-modern rock and old folk music, from old songs like "Gallows Pole" to the oldest field recordings, as emulated in "Hats Off to (Roy) Harper".
A great transition into a new decade.
My daughter's boyfriend asked me what my favourite led zeppelin album was; i replied led zeppelin 3
It's a tossup for me between III and PG as their best.
Roy Harper is also actually an interesting artist. I've got a bunch of his on CD. He's also the person that did the vocals on Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar". And, he did an album with Page in the 80's, (What Ever Happened To) Jugula.
@@brolinofvandar one of my older recordings is a reworking of "Hangman" from the Jugula album.
Amen!. Zep is at the tip of the spear of Rock and roll. No one even comes close and never will.
Professor, always appreciate your channel, but especially when you cover songs by arguably THE BEST band in rock music history, from one of the most important albums ever recorded. Loved this episode so much, I watched it twice! Thank you for sharing another episode on the band that has been and always will be #1 in my heart.❤🙏🏻✌️
EVERY song on Zeppelin IV is a #1 hit. 50 years later all those songs still get regular airplay on classic rock stations.
I’ve never heard Four Sticks on the radio. Lol
@@danieldemoro2743 Right lol. Or Battle of Evermore or Misty Mountain Hop. None of which are bad songs of course but I have never heard them played anywhere outside of hardcore zep fans lol.
@@digiorno1142 I actually have heard Misty Mountain on the radio before.
I haven't lived in Rochester for too long, but WCMF certainly played all those songs with regularity.
My parents had one of those huge wood furniture peices with record player inside. Played Black Dog and Rock and Roll whenever they were out. I actually would listen to side one endlessly for months (I was 10) before actually turning record over for another favrite Misty Mountain Hop plus When the Levee Breaks and Going to California . Eventually blew out the speakers. This song and album made me a Zep fan forever. Another great show and background story. Thanks!
I have a very distinct memory of hearing this song for the first time. It was 1985 and I was 14. I was hanging out in a video arcade on Friday night. There was a juke box playing and a friend of my sister's went over and put on "Rock and Roll". He looked at me and winked and said "you're gonna love this." I was blown away. Every time I hear it, I am 14 again playing pinball in that arcade.
Led Zeppelin to me is the all time great band- for every generation and for all ages! I think the new generation ought to take a long listen to these rare breeds of tunes, it could awaken something ferocious in music. Every generation has the capacity for creativity- sit down, pull up a beer or coffee and dive-in-deep to the Legends like The Mighty Zep.
LZ must be the introductory course to “History of Rock”.
There's a few people on u-tube that listen to all kinds of band's, and there's a girl who is a scholar in music, who listens to Zeppelin, and break's the song's down, n she's very young n she really puts Zeppelin up there.. It is nice to see younger generation's enjoying their music.. 🎶🤗🎵
Adam, I think it is great that you have this outlet to remember musical interactions with your dad. Music unlike anything else can spark our memories.
Great job covering this song ! I agree it is criminal that this did not reach #1. Love your content!🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Imagine improving and coming up with Rock and Roll ! I bet they had jaw cramps from grinning . So special !
I was at Ocean City MD with my young family around 1988. We just got off a large seaside Ferris Wheel. Rock n Roll came on full blast. Much to my wife’s horror and the crowds cheers I picked up my 3 year old daughter and started strumming her like a guitar 🎸 as I jammed down the off ramp of the ride. It was just spontaneous.
♦️ *Zeppelin is amazing!* ♦️
Absolutely!

I was at Live Aid at JFK Stadium. No band had a sound check or anything. Regardless of no band sounding spectacular, It was just AWESOME to be in the crowd watching all these bands/artists play and regardless of the Zeppelin “disastrous” set, it was still mind blowing to watch and listen to them play.
I was at home watching on TV (still have my pin for my $10 donation) and all I could think was the look on Robert Plant's face when a hundred thousand people sang the closing lines of Stairway back at him...that was worth everything, and I am very honored to have been alive to witness the triumph of rock and roll to bring good into the world.
Zep 3 is probably my favorite album, since I’ve been loving you is the greatest rock song ever imo and my all time favorite. The solo is Page at his best and Plant’s vocals throughout are insane
For me, "Since I've Been Loving You" is the Mount Olympus of Rock.
I love that you and your father have that connection with music. Music is so important but fathers even more so. Thank you for what you do with this channel. ✌️
Great stuff from you as always. I really enjoyed seeing and hearing from your dad after hearing you mention his influence on you. He sounds like a dad who showed how to really be a father.

Zeppelin, my favorite band as a teen starting back in 1983. Records, tapes and later cd’s. Had their music playing everywhere. A staple on Boomboxes.
For sure. A staple!
I’m also obsessed with Led Zeppelin, and I’m 17!
Love the way it all comes together. A rare moment for even the best groups. Not possible in today's world.
One of my two favorite Led Zeppelin songs. It's a toss up between Rock and Roll, and Kashmir. Stairway is 3rd for me. Love the clip of your Dad!
Zeppelin's been my favorite R&R band for over 40 years. "They Who Can Do No Wrong". Love it all. So sad we all have to get old. Rock and Roll is far from my favorite LZ song, but they're all good. Great post.
Haha, we all grow old.
While difficult to pick my favorite Zeppelin album, III is definitely a contender for favorite. I got that album, along with After the Gold Rush, and Sweet Baby James for Christmas 1970. I was 13 and on my way to being a lifelong fan of Zeppelin.
And then the next year would be a game changer.
What great Xmas presents 🤘
I like this Professor of Rock show as much as I used to like listening to the Casey Kasem’s Weekly Top 40. Great job creating something new but also recreating the magic of that show. From the way you tell the stories to the mixing in of parts of the song, it’s like Weekly Top 40 meets a vocal version of Pop Up Video! Great stuff - thank you. One of the best channels on all of UA-cam!
i always had this song on my playlist on the ole jukebox, this song gets people up on the dance floor, its rock n roll it has that effect. it's one of my favorite led zep songs.
Adam, I guessed it when to 22 but when you said 47….😮
Shocked beyond belief. I was in a band where we opened our set with Rock And Roll and that set the tone for us the rest of the night. They sang every song with us and the drunker they got, the more fun we had!
Thanks for sharing stories about your youth and your dad.
I've been in more bands than a computer can add together, and it seems that every single cover band (with the exception of a country band and a dance band) and an original band played this song. For every rock band, this song is required playing where other hall of fame songs aren't.
That shows the power of this over everythung else.
Was the first vinyl I bought in my live: "Whole lotta love" on a side and " Rock and Roll" on b. Still remember me listening it. And I love it till today!
Being born in 1970, I was just learning about Zep and developing my own tastes when Bonham passed. They remain my favorite band, if you want to hold my feet to the fire. I have seen Plant and Page live many times, but if I could go back in time, it would be to see them live at the height of their power. Would love to hear the story of the LiveAid reunion. 👍🏼🙏🏼☮️
Love Zep!!
Love Rock and Roll!
How this sing didn't chart higher is beyond me. They WERE Rock and Roll!
Love the episode Professor! This indeed is a biggie as you promised.
And yesterday was Breakfast Club detention day 39 years ago. 🎉🎉
Roger! Rock on!
Back then, the Billboard weekly chart rankings were based on a combination of record sales and radio airplay. One theory for a lower charting peak position can be why would one purchase the single if they like the whole album. Another theory is that some singles are chopped up edited versions of the album cut to make it radio friendly and perhaps the record buyer would prefer the full-length version. As Billy Joel once said about his song "Piano Man", "It was a beautiful song, but it ran too long, if you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit, so they [Columbia Records] cut it down to 3:05."
It didn’t chart higher because it was 1971, and songs like this just didn’t make it onto Top 40 radio, which unfortunately ruled the airwaves back then
I'm incredibly disappointed that my cable channels didn't put The Breakfast Club on this weekend. Every once in a while they slip stuff like that in, they put Lost Boys and License to Drive on a couple weeks ago and I realized on my own that it was the anniversary of the day Corey Haim died. One night they put on Midnight Express, I was doing some research on it and realized it was the anniversary of the day Billy Hayes was arrested. They aired it again a few days later on what was the anniversary of his escape. None of this was explicitly mentioned, it was just done. It reminds me of the day a local radio station played Sister Christian and Jessie's Girl back to back with zero mention of Boogie Nights, they just did it.
Little regard was paid to the FM radio market. That is where Led Zeppelin and other much ignored music of the day was playing. It's long lasting popularity has proven it's value. Young people are still putting aside today's music for "Zeppelin" over what otherwise is considered "THEIR" music.
My brother and I were Beatles / Stones fans from the early 60’s… But, you better believe we bought Zeppelin IV…. Played it over and over… (earned a spot next to our hallowed Beatles albums) I still remember, all these years later, the Visceral… mind blowing feeling “Rock and Roll” sent through me, the first time I heard it!!
Mind blowing indeed!
It doesn’t get any more rock and roll than that.
Oh man, when I first heard Zep, it changed the whole game to me! I bought every album through In through the Out Door! I had these on 8 tracks, albums, cassettes, then CDS! Now have them on Apple iPhone!

Zep & Floyd were so album oriented they did not release some of the best songs ever as singles, & we already had the album anyway. Rock on.
Very true. Rock on Darryl!
who would want a song good enough to get played on the radio?
One of my favorite albums is "Dark Side of the Moon." Problem is any singles from the album just doesn't sound right. It's a case of the whole being greater than the parts.
Rush too. Fifteen and twenty minute instrumental songs were not written for radio.
They strove after the role model that is Sgt. Peppers.
Love Led Zeppelin myself and had all their albums from the release dates back in the day. The low show on the charts was because the band was an FM stereo radio band as they had very few singles and they tended to be too long for regular rotation.
Prof of Rock, you ROCK with your detailed coverage of these legendary rock albums and bands!!! 🤘🤘
'Rock and Roll' was one of the first Zeppelin songs I learned to play on guitar.
Every song every album nobody beats zeppelin
Truth 💯
THEY ARE THE GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER NO BAD SONGS ,NO BAD ALBUMS ,GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER!
They have plenty of bad songs....
@@RadioMartyT1B Every album is a masterpiece let me guess you head got fried on acid and your a Greatful Crap fan right ? There's 3 guitar players and then everyone else HENDRIX ,VAN HALEN AND PAGE THEN EVERYONE ELSE don't know what you think your hearing!
LMAO @@RadioMartyT1B
@@RadioMartyT1Buh huh sure 🙄🖕
Absolute favorite band of all time, never wrote a bad song.
some might say a song like Hot Dog sucked. It was too country sounding.
Another great episode. Your dad’s cameo was sweet.
Thank you! ✌️
I am an US Air Force brat, moved from Hawaii to Utah in 1971, talk about a culture shock, but was 2 of the best years of my life...I was blessed to see Led Zep in Salt Lake City right after I graduated high school, 1973, and they had just come from Atlanta and since I was born in Georgia was special, for no reason at all! I love your channel, like many bands, I grew up waiting to see what is next....I actually lifted(stole) 20$ from my Dads sock drawer and bought Led Zep 2, and I actually ended up telling him about it, he just laughed...Please, no more sad dog stories. I teared up watching you tell the story....Keep on keeping on bro!
This is my FAVORITE Zeppelin song. Gets you up out of your seat as soon as Bonham hits those drums. My brother's band used to do this song (many years ago when I was a teenager lol) and it brings back a lot of memories of listening to them practicing this song in our basement.
It lights a fire under your butt!
The groove is great too.
@@ProfessorofRock If you ever get a chance to see Get The Led Out do it! They are a great Zep "tribute" band. I don't usually do tribute bands, but these guys are so good you will swear they are Zeppelin. The lead singer actually played a Robert Plant type lead singer in the show Vinyl. You won't be disappointed.
Led Zeppelin III is one of their best albums and a necessary change of course. Experimentation was a big thing then.
By the time "Rock and Roll" had hit, its success or lack of may have become irrelevant, since "Stairway to Heaven" had become a juggernaut overwhelming everything in its way.
Robert Plant's favorite album was "Forever Changes" by Love, and seemed to influence a lot of his writing.
Zeppelin proteges "Bad Company" looked to be a huge singles/albums band but that was short lived.
I think that "Rock and Roll" was their first song at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium in 1974 (?). Four solid hours of music with a half-hour break from 10 to 10:30. Finally the fire marshall sut down the show at 12:30. People were throwing lit joints up onto the stage and the band was taking hits and throwing them back into the crowd. Best. Concert. Ever.
You fill in the gaps of my musical knowledge. Thank you for your videos.
When Aliens land on earth and they ask, define Rock and Roll?, you just play this song!
Truth.
Or the one by Velvet Underground. 😊
Aliens are devoid of emotion, they will never understand rock & roll.
I absolutely love the clip of your dad ❤ I would be interested in knowing what happened with the Live Aid performance. The 4th album is my favorite. I was blessed with an Aunt who introduced me to Zeppelin and many other great artists. She had the biggest influence over the music I listened to. Great episode 😊👍🤘
Coming soon! Thanks Kim!
Id also really love to hear the”rest of the story” re. The Live Aid concert. Can’t wait for it to drop! 👍
I taught myself Led Zeppelin’s catalog, and they have a range of classics.
Heroin and Jimmy That what happened at live aid
Regarding Live Aid, apart from the already mentioned drug issue, they hadn't rehearsed. Plus, Phil Collins didn't make it Led Zeppelin. Bonham was key to the sound..
This was a song that made the bonfires brighter, the nights cooler, and the teens wilder back in my youth...
Hat tip to the gang from Shawnee HS Medford NJ, and all the parties at the Field, the Maze, and Bottle Hill...!
My #1 album of all time. Thx for your fantastic vids!
I can't even imagine Led Zeppelin not having a number 1 hit. I will tell you that they are on my short list for #1 rock band. Yes, I might get confused when I think about whether they could possibly be above the Beatles and Pink Floyd but they are still up therein my Mt Rushmore of rock.
Rock and Roll is definitely a great song. Love the riffs and the uptempo of it. The outro was short, but very powerful.
No question!
It’s a grumpy mood killer.
Another thing you mention early on is the young generations discovering the ever so deep well of talent and magical music of long ago . they have years and years of excitement with something new many times a day. Gosh I feel so lucky to have grown up living through all that thrilling genius and exposure to live in your face talent . Thanks AR.
