Religion and science both offer explanations for why life and the universe exist. Science relies on testable empirical evidence and observation. Religion relies on subjective belief in a creator.

Bullshit. I''ve had my third eye squeegeed clear with the help of Mother Ayahuasca and understand that this current Newtonian paradigm we are indoctrinated into from birth, that depends on reductionist science and materialism to rationalize it, is merely just another 21st century belief system. The notion that we are all lumbering robots separate from each other is a myth. Separation is an illusion as everything is vibration in its purest form. Energy is not created or destroyed only assumes different states. The brain doesn't create consciousness and is more of a reducing valve that's function is to filter out only what is necessary perpetuate the ego while we incarnate this physical form. Science can only function from within this framework as a measurement tool. I know the felt the presences of direct experience. It made me understand that everything is an interconnected web of relationships governed by an inherent intelligence that is the essence of all sentience. "We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively" as Bill Hicks noted. We are that eternal essence that has existed before our birth and will continue after our physical "death", it has no beginning or end since time is a construct of the brain. That is why when science uses quantum physics to try and reduce things down to their smallest components it always comes to the "measurement problem". The simple act of observation effects behavior. "I don't need to believe. I know" Carl Jung Modern science is in its infancy in its understanding the nature of reality and will never in itself be complete in doing so.

The Bible, and other forms of religious text such as the Qaran and The Book of Mormon, are considered, religiously, as history books. In the New Testament of the Bible, the books are written from the perspective of those that witnessed what Jesus had done. And I don't think there's anything wrong living like Jesus. Those that trying to chastize non-Christians are those that don't live like Him.

You can say that about any facts verified by historians though. If all information for any historical event was somehow hypothetically destroyed, it wouldn't come back the same since the events took place in the past. You can't recreate those events. Doesn't change the fact those events took place.
We all believe what historians tell us about other historical time periods/events/figures (ex. Alexander the Great, the Roman empire, etc.) and yet historians have gathered in many instances significantly less evidence (for example those aforementioned topics; ATG or the Roman Empire) than they have for many books in the new testament of the bible.
Science and religion (which deals with history and philosophy) are two completely different things. So Ricky Gervais' comparison here doesn't make sense. Whether you believe the 30 something authors of the bibles testimonies (which are verified by both biblical and secular historians as likely authentic personal accounts And not made up stories/forgeries) on their interaction with whom they believed is God is up to you.
But to call those books works of fiction has been proven as most likely false - by the same historian methods used to verify our commonly held beliefs in secular historical events/figures.

      No, it isn't.
Nothing he said is actually true, or correct.
"Science" is a process, not a thing.
In a thousand years time, the same tests, and the same results would not "come back", because the answers "science" produces, changes CONSTANTLY.
The talking points of Atheists sound good, but are total nonsense. If think through any of then beyond surface level, they decintigrate.
There is a reason M theory, and String Theory exists. Because relativity has serious issues, and as scientists learn more and more, the theory of relativity becomes less and less reliable.
"Science is constantly proved all the time". Is a stupid, ignorant, statement to make. Again, "science" is a process. It can't be "proved", it can only be used.
Religion has absolutely nothing to do with science. It deals in moral, ethical, and spiritual, issues. It is not antithetical to "science". Atheists trying to use "science" to "disprove" religion, is just dumb, and a waste of time and energy.

Only issue I have with this, is that most people embrace science as a religion.
They don't do the tests themselves.
They don't do the critical thinking.
They don't even cross reference what they're told.
    They're told:
    1. I'm a scientist from this organization that you literally never heard of until five seconds ago but you'll pretend you have heard of it because everyone else is acting like they've heard of it.
    2. The sky is green, we've done extensive studies that we won't show you, and those studies have been peer reviewed by other scientists and organizations you've never heard of, and now it's a settled fact that the sky is green. Don't believe what your eyes are telling you, you're not educated enough to understand what you're seeing, TRUST THE SCIENCE, and I AM THE SCIENCE!
That's literally the extent of what, for example, Covid was, where it came from, and what we should do to deal with it, and if you dared ask questions, or bring up the science that was objective science prior to the pandemic, about things like natural immunity, herd immunity, how masks actually work, or anything like that, you'd be, in so many ways, bullied into submission.
People's blind trust in "experts" is no less a religion than anything else. If we were to burn everything they said about Covid, most of it would never come back, because it wasn't true.

The main difference between faith in God, the Bible and science is that science is constantly being redrawn and proven wrong and have to retract their theories and put forth new ones, constantly. The Bible has been the same since it was written. I came to the conclusion that science, tho a vast well of information and knowledge, for all intents and purposes is limited. You're confusing a theory with an hypothesis. What you call theory in everyday speech is called a hypothesis in science. A hypothesis is an idea that can explain facts but doesn't have enough supporting evidence. A theory is an idea that explains facts that does have enough evidence backing it.
Here's how it goes: scientists discover something, they come up with a hypothesis to explain what caused that something. Then they do experiments to see if they can prove the hypothesis. If enough evidence backing the hypothesis comes up from the experiments, the hypothesis becomes a theory. If little to no evidence comes up from the experiments, the hypothesis stays an hypothesis. If in the experiments they find evidence that directly contradicts the hypothesis, the hypothesis becomes bullshit. Now you understand?

We are ALL detectives in search of the best explanation for the origins of life.
Even Atheists , who falsely claim to lack a belief, have to believe in something. It’s impossible not to believe in anything, and honestly it would be dumb.
Therefore Atheists believe that living beings originated from non living things. Immaterial things like your soul, your mind , your thoughts and your feelings, they say they are the result of purely chemical reactions. This is anti-scientific as it goes against any observable proof and replicable experiment.
They believe that incredibly complex strands of DNA code came to be in perfect and right order through casual and random mutations. It’s like believing that a beautiful and complex poem was put together throwing random letters on the floor for a billion times.
They believe that evolution and natural selection explain the intelligent design away. Yet these processes In order to function they must follow intelligent and precise laws , laws that no one wrote, apparently. Mathematically precise and replicable laws that came to be randomly , that emerged from chaos. That is illogical.
These are the absurdities an atheist must believe.
These are theories that atheist scientists and “intellectuals” put forth in their books. I read most of them.
They are not looking for the objective truth - they are looking for an alternative to God.
To believe all those things you gotta have MORE FAITH than to just believe in a beautifully engineered universe created by a powerful intelligent Designer, as we can clearly see all of us.
      Who’s the Believer, honestly ??

The prophesies of the Bible are constantly proved over time too. Revelation 16:12 says that the Euphrates River will dry up. The Euphrates River is drying up now, is it not?
Jesus is the only prophet (Who was the Son of the Living God, the Creator) that died (on the cross for our sins) and came back to life 3 days later. Then He ascended into Heaven shortly after. Every other prophet is still buried in the ground. I believe in Jesus. I don't want to go to hell. God is Life. Hell is the absence of God. No air, no light, no love, no joy or happiness. Hell is the eternal place of torment. What have you got to lose? Everyone takes a permanent dirt nap one day.
The good news is that we don't have to be good or perfect to believe or talk to Jesus. He died for us sinners, and I've broken every single commandment. We don't get to Heaven by being good, but my repenting. (Repenting is telling His you're sorry and admitting you've done things that are wrong and asking for God's forgiveness, accepting Jesus died on the cross). It's really not to much to ask, is it? Then you don't even have to be perfect. If you're genuinely sorry when talking to God, He'll change your heart. He is real and He is alive, and if you ask Him to prove it He will.
I'm sick, and I don't know if I'll get better. I'm sad but I'm at peace knowing there room for me in Heaven if I don't get better.
I know, it sounds too easy. That's just it. It really is that easy. Matthew 18:2 in the Bible says Jesus asks that we believe in Him with a child-like faith.
I'd like to see every soul in the world there one day. There's enough run for everyone. Please try. Just just talk to Him. He hears you.
If you confess them to Him (you don't have to confess your sins in front of people), He IS faithful and just to forgive you . And It doesn't matter how good or how bad you are. ✝️🤍🕊️

While Ricky Gervais sort of has a point, but like most athiests when this is put forward, he completely misses the point.
The point is you are still accepting what someone else told you. You are still relying on testimony. While some things like Gravity are to some extent self evident and you could use intuition to get there, this is not always the case. Often Athiests will go to this self evident thing and say "see there you go", but that isn't really what we are talking about.
Let's take a flat earth argument as an example. Most people believe it because that is what they have been told. Thet have never done an experiment or checked it themselves. That doesn't mean that the earth isn't round (that is a non sequitur) but it does mean that you have faith (in the proper sense) in the person telling you this. Even if someone has done an experiment to show it, you are taking their word that they did it correctly and didn't lie when you think the earth is round.
This is the point. Unless you do literally every scientific experiment yourself, you are believing a testemony.

We are not taking there word for it over a long period of time all the big theories go under heavy testing by people in the same field. Human life and expertise is too small to know everything, so we trust institutions that have proven themselves. Science is not one person by an discipline that involves thousands of independent institutions and individuals. The proof Science works is satellites in space, doctors rescuing lives, and us communicating across the globe. I can't do half that stuff but it works and has earned my trust.

@@euanthompson I simply can't do everyone of those experiments cause of the resources and the expertise required, but there are checks and balances in the scientific community for those reasons. A radiologist has to take my word for a data model since it works and had be confirmed by other experts. I don't think you realize how extensive checks there are on these kind of things. Also the most major reason is that, it works. You need to take the word of experts of there theory works. Do you trust your doctor and his fellows to keep him in line or do you study for every sickness? It same with other fields of science but more complex.
