My foot size is 9 and I bought shoes with uk 10 size . I thought I screwed things up. There was no return policy. But surprisingly I am more running with these shoes. Its been six months now. Definitely shoe felt big. But there was no discomfort. After watching your video I feel happy with my shoes ...
I got a bruise on my big toe after two 5Ks and now I know why 😅 Returned the shoes and I’m shopping for a proper fit now. Thank you for the video, great advice!
Thank you-found a deal on a half size smaller shoe and tried to talk myself into believing they would work. You saved me a buck. Frickin 140.00 for shoes is such a rip off
I wish I had seen this video 5 days ago; it would have been helpful. I wear UK size 9 casual shoes, and I ordered shoes of size 9 online, but they feel uncomfortable. You gave good information. You deserve millions of subscribers, Love from India🇮🇳❤
@@NarendraRajput-xc2qx I’m glad you found this video, even if it wasn’t at the ideal time. Yes, we have to let our feet have room to move a little! 😀 Thanks for the kind comment about deserving millions of subscribers! 😍
Just got new running shoes, never needed them really. But I may be starting a 6 month academy where we may run 5-10 miles 3 days a week lol.. I need a well fitted shoe. I am flat footed so of course I went straight to UA-cam to see what's good. Got the asics 2000 gt 9. An old model, so I got them for a steal of $70 . Everything you mentioned in this video is checked off.. couldn't be happier. Now to slowly break them in Thank you!!
Made me feel a little better. Spent a lot of money on hoka's after 3 metatarsal fractures. Never been fitted for shoes im usually anywhere between a 8-9 (rarely a 9) they sized me up to a 9.5!!!!!! For width not length so the toe box has so much room.. my big toe has about 1 inch but thes the other toes where they are bending where I'm driving myself nuts.
Sorry to hear about your 3 metatarsal fractures! That recovery time must have been frustrating! Shoes are made well for the masses, but not well made for the individual! I had trouble with a pair of Hoka Rincons and my little toe rubbing and getting squished.
Thanks Matt! I was going to replace my shoe that I just recently got as it was just a thumb size bigger than a perfect fit. But now that I think about it, it's not that much of a gap, and seeing your video proved that to me :)
@@its_Matt_B_ I use 26.0 cm shoe for my daily us of a specific brand. But, whenever i try a different brand (like Onitsuka)of the same size, my longest feet feels cramped inside it. So i had to return them. I think 27.0 cm would have been fine. Now, As i am not sure of my exact shoe size, can i order 28.0 cm (Asics) for my daily walks? I am looking forward for your response
@@dukebose970 What brand of shoe do you wear 26cm? Without knowing too much, I think 28cm would work for you, but I think it would be far better if you could try them on first. For all we know the ASICS will fit the same as your 26cm shoe and if that's the case, the 28cm ASICS would feel a bit too roomy!
@@its_Matt_B_ First of all, Thank you soo much for taking your time out & helping me understand better shoe sizes knowledge. I wear 26.0cm Red Tape. But Onitsuka felt cramped. Which Asics size would you suggest for daily use, & a very minimal run?
@@dukebose970 Unfortunaely I haven't run in Red Tape or Onitsuka shoes, however when I put 26cm (EU 42) into this calculator: www.size.ly/shoe-size-recommender it shows the ASICS fit the same as Red Tape. With this information it looks like you can buy the same size ASICS as you have in Red Tape!
Cheers! What made you first want to replace your shoes? Did they feel big on your feet? Fee too big when you pressed the space between your toes and the end of the shoe?
@@its_Matt_B_ the space was hardly 1 - 1.5cm i would say...equal to my toenail size... I thought i got wrong size at first glance... Until i watched this video...
after watching your video i have clarified all my doubts about new shoes , i have bought NIKE US 7.5 size i worry about that will little bit bigger at toes but now i got clarity matt.. thank you, you made my day
Awesome video. I was wondering if this also apply to spikes because there’s an extra thumb space between my toe and the end of the shoe. I also heard you should be landing on your forefoot for spikes so if it is too big you might be landing closer to the heel. ❤
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! As far as spikes goes, I've never run in them, but I always heard they will fit a lot more snug than everyday running shoes.
I tried half a size bigger than my normal one and it fits more comfortable. It is slightly big but I heard that your feet swell when running so you need to leave more space.
Thanks for the good information. I've always worn shoes with the exact length as my feet and very snug. Recently I've had a lot of pain in my big toe and with some research i understand i messed up my feet with narrow and small shoes. Maybe wearing a shoe with a little extra length don't be fun but it's healthy!
Thanks bud I appreciate the video. I got some ultraboosts for Christmas and was on the fence about keeping them, took them for a short run and they just feel a bit off. I’ll return them and treat myself to a local specialty shop than can help me find what I’m looking for. You saying how good shoes should just fade into background during a run made me realize I don’t own a pair of good running shoes.
Thank you very much. I brought two shoes of different sizes home trying to figure out the correct size. This video was very helpful. I have bought shoes in the past that was too small.
There's not much worse than running in shoes that are too small. I'm glad to hear the video helped somewhat! Thanks for being a part of the channel and commenting! 👊🏼
Saw this video just now. How I wish I saw this earlier. Very helpful. I also use that thumb on the toe guideline. For me, my issue with running shoes are the midfoot area. I have a wide midfoot so I am very particular with the midfoot fit of running shoes. I am a US 10 in the Alphafly 3 due to its wider midfoot as compared to the Alphafly 2 with a very narrow midfoot so I am a size 11 there.
Interesting about the midfoot on the AF2 being so much narrower than the AF3. I didn't run in the AF2 so can't compare. Still, I'm glad the AF3 fits you well!
Very nice my first pear size 10 was little big and i had problems with my left ankle so i bought new insoles and now it is okay but i ordered another pear in blue colour size 9.5 and they fit perfect so i have two pears energy 3 now for about 1000 miles thanks for your advice
I'm worried about a new pair I just got on clearance. They're absolutely amazing EXCEPT for my longest toe... I'm going to try that insole trick now! There were some great tips I've never heard before. Thanks!
@@Kelly_Ben I don’t know about living to you’re 90, but I did say the smartest and best looking people have longer second toes. Is that as good as living a long and healthy life?.....it’s arguable! 🤣
Awesome video man thank you! I’m a long time weight lifter who wants to get into running. I went into a running store recently and I was so overwhelmed with all the options and trying to figure out the perfect fit. I ended up going with a pair of hoka bondi 8’s in a 10.5 wide. I normally wear a 10 (non wide) but they fit felt better with the bigger size especially cause your feet swell. I will say, I’m still not used to my feet moving around a little in them. I haven’t gotten any blisters yet though so hopefully they aren’t too big. I’m just rambling at this point but yeah! I guess I’m just experiencing the “growing pains” of entering a new hobby
I always wore size 9 shoes (US size), but recently i got a size 10 running shoe following the running gurus’ advice. It’s been so weird to run in size 10. They seem too long and i kinda miss feeling my feet “being hugged” by the size 9 shoe lol. I even thought about wearing 2 socks to get the same feeling, but i feel like i should really adapt myself
Ultimately, you should do what feels best for you! You may also find that some shoes fit different in different areas of your foot, or just fit a little bigger (or smaller). It's ok if you like the feeling of your feet being hugged! 😁
If it’s jusr .5 difference (e.g. 9.5) you won’t feel much of the difference. But if it’s a solid 1, you will feel discomfort in the long run. I got sores from friction when my shoes are loose.
i personally have a harder time to buy sneakers but i went and got new pair today i had to go from 10 to 11 last few times i brought sneakers or boots.. i tired a 10 on and felt like they was too tight so i tired a 11 on and they felt good im not sure i would say 2 pairs of socks would be the best for your feet esspeically if they sweat at all.. i must say size 11 sneakers isnt as easy to fine haha :)
Always get a UK8 my feet are wide but actually around a UK 7-7.5 so they always fit, with a space at the front of 0.5-1cm. Perfect! Very rare i need an 8.5 but thats a sneaker with a lot of internal padding
Good to hear you've figured out how to get the right size for them to fit right! The only problem is when brands mess up their own sizing! I've had a few shoes where I've had to drop a whole size from normal just because the brands changed something.
I had a pair of cheap basketball shoes and I’m a wide feet 🦶 that shoes actually made me lose two of my toe nails after some games and I’m now looking for guide for buying a new pair of shoes advice . Thanks for your advice on the running shoes I’m also looking for new running shoes and basketball shoes
Figuring mine are too big as i have to lace them so tight they’re too tight just to keep from moving around in them. Gonna try a half size smaller. See how that goes. Thanks foe the help!
Just bought a pair of Hoka speedgoat 5, at the store they felt great. But did a 2 mile test run and felt them tight on the sides.. decided to go back and get the wide version.
Another great video you have so much energy and obviously enjoy making content. Bought my first pair of Brooks - Ghost 14 - late last year. I went to a specialist shop that has been around for years. They said it was a good idea to go for one size up from you normal shoe size. I tried 5 or 6 pairs and the Brooks were my choice. Fit, they have been perfect. I am an 8.5, my Brooks are 9.5.
Thanks for watching and you're right; I really do enjoy making content! I'm glad to hear your Ghost 14 are working well for you and that you found the size that is perfect for you! I've been wearing the Brooks 14 for about a year and they still feel as good as ever!
I’m the same way! I tried going for my shoe size (9) and they always fell asleep never understood why. Then for ASICS size 9.5 which worked well. I switched over to Nike and I find I’m a 10 (they seem to run smaller). THEN 😂😂 I got a pair of Saucony in 10 and they just felt too close to my toes. I got a 10.5 and it’s perfect. It’s been an adventure
@@CaroElena It would be so much easier if all brands sized the same (or if we all had the same size feet), but alas, it's not to be....but as you say, Tracy, it's an adventure (which is the best possible way i've heard of describing different shoe sizes! 🤣)
Great video Matt, thank you so much for it. I was planning to buy new running shoes next week and I am taking this advice with me. Greetings from Brasil.
I have pretty wide feet, and want a fast shoe without carbon plate. I already have the New Balance fresh foam More4, so I was thinking about Asics Superblast of Adidas Boston 12.
Even though it’s the first time you’ve heard about it, I bet you knew exactly what it was and know when things just aren’t right! Thanks for watching! 👊🏽
I swear, I was 10.5, and now I'm 11.5. I wasn't quite sure with the thumb trick, so I took out the insole and it showed I had adequate space in the 11.5. Feels a lot better too. I actually worked 10.5 for a year, not realizing it was an issue, then 11 for 6 months, felt better but gradually became painful. And now 11.5.
Hi Matt thanks for this nice vedio. This good news about fitting because I bought the brooks adrenaline 21gts and the size seem big from front I was confused about it . But now I 1m sûre that the size is correct. Gts brooks 21 is brilliant shoes amazing. Thanks
Thanks for this, super clear and helpful! Only thing is… is there such a thing as too much toe room?! Specifically length. I have wide feet and high arches (thus high instep) so it’s quite hard to find a perfect fit especially with every brand being so different. I’ve just received some Hoka trail runners and there’s a bit more than a thumb there (but I did that sitting down which as per your video is apparently not correct. But how do I do it correctly without a second person 😂)
@@CronchyMonch Yes, there can be too much room. You’re looking for a comfortable fit, without sliding around in the shoe. Have you thought about insole inserts? They could help with your arch and possibly make the fit perfect.
@@its_Matt_B_yep I have them in my normal runners which are wide fit New Balance in the same size. The wide Hoka trail runners have longer toes though for some reason. It almost seems like an entire half a size or even a whole size bigger than the New Balance for some reason. I don’t know if they did this on purpose? I could try my inserts in them and see if that changes it any. I have a feeling it might just take up more room in the shoe and make it squishier everywhere but the toe length though 😬
@@its_Matt_B_ ah okay, well, I will just have to get a 7 and see if that’s better, then return one. Frustrating! Mostly because, I tried to do it the “right way” and get fitted in store but they had no stock of the wide fit 🤦♀️ thanks for your help
I am a woman who wears U.S. size 8.5 B width in good quality dress shoes. My last two pairs of Asics Nimbus were 9.5. I had not purchased a new pair in a very long time, but I wanted to get out and be more active again, so I ordered the Gel Nimbus 24 in 9.5 regular. I could barely get my feet into them. I then tried a 10 Wide and a 10.5 Wide. I was stunned that even the 10 Wide felt too short. I ended up with a 10.5 Wide. I could not believe I had to size up two whole size from my dress shoe size. Historically, Asics run narrow and short, but this is ridiculous! If someone told me in advance that I would need a massive 10.5 Wide, I would never have believed it. They make my feet look huge, but my feet do not feel constricted, and I have a thumb's width between the tip of my big toe and the tip end of the shoe, so the 10.5 Wide must be the correct fit. "Shocked" does not even begin to describe how I feel.....
As you well know from buying clothing (not just shoes), sizing varies hugely between brands and that difference is even bigger between different items (dress shoes to athletic shoes). Your size of 10.5 wide means nothing other than you weren't used to hearing it. I'm so glad you found a pair that fit comfortably, as that's the one thing that will keep you using them! What are you doing to be active again? Walking, runing, etc.? Good luck on the journey and I hope you're loving the shoes! The GN24 sure are comfy!
@@its_Matt_B_ I used to walk between 3 and 5 miles per day about 5 days a week at a very nice park not too far from my home, but I more or less stopped all exercise about 7 years ago after my little girl passed. I hardly went out at all, and then Covid hit in 2020, and that was one more reason to stay indoors. Any time I did go to the park with my dog to walk, it was a zoo. Suddenly, because of Covid, people were coming out of the woodwork so to speak to spend time at what used to be a pretty quiet park, so that was one more reason to stay home. I planned to start walking more beginning last Autumn after the terrible heat and humidity of Summer had passed, but before I could follow through on that commitment to myself, I was forced to move from my 2/1 house with garage (owner turned it into an Airbnb) to a one room apartment. Now, I have no choice but to take my dog for at least 3 walks per day since we no longer have a yard, so I had to buy a new pair of shoes. Walking on concrete in my old Nimbus 10's were killing me as they are totally clapped out. I always liked Nimbus because of the great cushioning. I have worn Asics since the 1980s. This is the first time I had to settle for a pair two whole sizes larger than my high quality dress shoes, though. There is something vaguely insulting about that! (LOL) Traditionally, Asics run narrow and a bit short, but this is ridiculous! The 24 in 10.5 Wide look huge on my feet! I read the new 25's will not come out before late March for some reason. Each year they usually come out in January. Maybe there was still a glut of 24's on the market they hoped to shift? Anyway, I did not want to wait that long. Plus, I knew I would end up spending at least $40 more for the 25's. So, I decided to buy the 24's.
@@user-lz6dm5lk9y I’m so sorry about you losing your daughter and totally understand staying in. I’m sure life just lost its joy for such a long time! I would say your move to a one room apartment has a silver lining; your forced dog walks are going to get you in super shape! 💪🏽 I understand it seeming insulting to go up in shoe size, but take comfort that no one but you will give your shoe size a second thought! 🤣 (at least I hope it’s comforting!) I think you made a good call getting the 24 instead of waiting for the 25. There’s no point spending more when you don’t have to! Keep up your activity level! 🙌🏽
I just got myself a pair of shoes and they are 1" bigger than my feet and they feel really comfortable. I used to buy size 10 shoes and they feel uncomfortable and I always had to wear thin socks. Now, I can wear thick socks that do not give me blisters. Definitely go with 1" bigger than what you would normally wear. They magically become comfortable.
Hi Matt great video! At 1:43 you are saying to leave between 1/2 and 1'' between longest toe and end of shoe. Wouldn't that make for a loose fit? 0.5 inch is one size bigger in US size while 1 inch is 2-2.5 sizes bigger in US size. Looking forward to your response!
The idea behind having your running shoes slightly longer than your longest toe is to give your feet room to move slightly in the shoe. I don't know if you've ever worn shoes where your toes touch the end, but it can lead to trauma from the repetitive movement of your toes against the front of the shoe. Think black toenails and blisters. Also, our feet can expand slightly when running. The extra room allows this without discomfort. As far as sizing goes, yes, it may very well mean buying a larger shoe. There's nothing wrong with getting a bigger shoe, especially if it leads to comfort while running, which is what we all want! I've found different brands size differently, so it's best to try a new shoe first before committing to keeping it.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 👊🏼 Having the right size shoes makes the difference in being comfortable on our runs, and if we’re comfortable we keep doing it! 💥
Hi Can you do a video showing dangers of running in larger shoes. I'm not talking about blisters. I'm talking about orthopedic damage. Damage to the bones that may take years to heal
Is it thumbs width between the end of toe and the end of the inside of the toebox? Or the outside tip of the shoe? The difference is about 3mm so nearly half a size in difference.
Thanks Matt. As a new and older runner and slowly increasing miles I just started to get hotspots on on the bottom of my left foot. Thanks for these techniques and thoughts, I will keep them in mind when buying and trying shoes.
Nice and helpful video. What is your advice in the case where one of the feet is bigger than the other? For example, the left foot is 8.5UK with a wide width and the right foot is 8UK with regular width. Is it better to go for sizes/measurements according to the bigger foot? Thanks.
Hi! Definitely cater to the bigger foot. You can always wear a thicker sock on your smaller foot. This way you'll stay comfortable, even if it's weird to put on three socks! 😁
I found out I had been wearing the wrong size my whole adult life. I was at Fleet Feet and they scanned my feet and I ended up being a 9.99. I’d been wearing 9.5 and even 9 at times. No wonder I was busting holes through the mesh of my athletic shoes. Now I get 10.5 for athletic/running shoes and 10 for casual.
Useful thanks. I have large feet for a woman & it means I have to verge into men’s sizes but men’s shoes are generally too wide for me so I have difficulty getting a good fit.
It’s driving me nuts, I bought x4 nanos in 9 since everyone raves about them online and I feel like they were the perfect length but so uncomfortable around the middle section because I have a high midstep so I sided up to 9.5 and now I feel like they are a bit long (just over the entire width of my thumb from big toe to tip and if I push my foot to the very end I can slide four fingers down the back. Is this too long for a hiit shoe? What should I do? Should abandon the x4 and go for a different shoe entirely? I’m am just tired of swapping shoes and ordering new because this isn’t the first I had to deal with. Also now I’m wondering if I could have used a special lacing technique with the size 9 to give more space in the midsection. It’s all so exhausting…
@@Phoenix-ov5gg You could try a different lacing technique however it sounds like the X4 may simply not fit your foot. Everyone has a slightly different foot shape and not all shoes work for everyone. I agree that it’s a real pain to figure all this stuff out.
I just got the on cloud monster in 8.5W to be “comfortable” usually I’m 8W, today I got them, it feels good but the only thing is my toe. It’s almost close to the top. Should I go for 9W? Or give a chance??
If you can return the shoes without any problems, I would suggest trying the size 9. Shoes from different brands, and even within the same brand, don't always fit the same, so it's worth trying the larger size.
Sorry, I haven't used any so can't make any recommendations. I did quickly look them up on Amazon and these seem inexpensive with 13,000+ ratings: amzn.to/3PHXajJ Good luck! LMK what you find and if they work for you!
Hi, I am having shin splints on side of both legs. Although, I am not a runner. Sometimes I walk with fast pace. I fee shin pain especially walking on unbalance surface or inclining. I recently purchased a running shoe for daily walk purposes. I hope i will not get shin pain anymore.
I always have weird sizing with Adidas. My foot is 27cm heel to toe. On Nike, currently Pegasus 38, 10.5 US always fits me perfect. On Adidas though, wearing size 10.5 US (10 UK), while the shoe fits, it feels a bit tight on the inside. And when i tried Adidas 11 US (10.5 UK) it seems a bit bigger, i dom’t feel any tightness, bit it’ll feel there’s a little more space at the toe room tham i wanr. Currently got an RC3 Adizero sisze 10.5 US, feels a bit tight when i wear them, bit during the run it’ll feel better, but foot would sometimes feel hot
It's really a pain that all shoes aren't sized the same! How much toe space is more than you want in your Adidas? Remember our feet need room when we're running and they often expand a little on longer and/or warmer runs! More room is (generally) better than less room.
Hi good morning i wear size 8 us in my regular shoes i bought a asics gel nimbus 5 in the same size its like walking on clouds did a trip with a lot of walking i got a heel blister and my toes touch my second toe is longer what would you suggest plz
@@cassandrapersaud9837 I’m m not sure about the heel blister, as it indicates you’ve got some movement in the heel, but you could try the lace lock method for tying your shoes. As far as your toes, It sounds as simple as going up half a size. Are you able to return your Nimbus for a bigger size?
Hi Matt, I am looking to buy running shoe, i usualy by UK size 7 this time I wan to check i proper size and buy.. My exact size comes to 24cm suggest me if I can buy 26cm (UK7) or 25cm (UK6) few brands don't have UK6.5 size confused 🤔
This is tricky because there’s more to shoe fitting than just the length: the width of a shoe and the volume play a roll too. I suggest trying the shoe you want on first or buying online from a place that lets you return the pair that don’t fit.
Hi Matt, thank you for your content! I am a Walker and noticed after several hours of walking in my new shoes, NB freshfoam 860v13 that only my 2nd toes on both feet were in pain and a bit red and loose nails but strange because my 2nd toes are a lot shorter than my big toes. So not sure what was happening because my big toes as well as all the others are fine. What are your thoughts?
Hi Kathy! This is a curious problem, especially because your second toes are shorter. I think a podiatrist will be your best bet to get a legitimate reason for your second toes hurting. However, it's always fun to speculate. I wonder if you may be better off with a shoe designed for walking (they usually have a flatter sole and are slightly firmer)? Your 880s have Fresh Foam, which is lovely and soft, and I wonder if because of that softness your toes are working too much. Sorry I can't give you a precise reason, but I'd love to hear what it is when you find out for sure. All the best!
Hahaha. Look at that choice of words!!! Love it! This might be my favorite video. And yes feel get bigger.... I used to be a 7 and I am an 8.5 now. And my second toe is also my longest! That is the one that gets black.
Wait! Your feet have grown 1.5 shoe sizes? Is this since you’ve been an adult? That seems like a lot! 🤣 BTW, all the smartest and best looking people have longer second toes! I think it’s a scientific fact, but don’t ask me to back it up with data. 🤷🏻♂️
@@its_Matt_B_ yes, unfortunately. 1.5 since before I was pregnant till now. All my clothes from back then fit me but my shoes don't. And I am pretty sure you are right about the second toe statement 😆
I have one foot 4/5 ths longer than the other. Is it ok to have a little more than a thumb's width of extra space above the toes with the shorter foot?
What do I do if I’m between a 13 and 14 in most shoes. 13 fits but only maybe half of a thumb width left in the front. 14 gives me too much space as I have the issue of narrow feet. So a lot of shoes I get hot spots on the bottom of my feet. Don’t really have a toe issue in 13s.
When it comes down to it, comfort is the only thing that matters. If a size 13 feels best, it doesn't really matter that there is only half a thumb width left. Go with comfort every single time! 🙌🏽
I really really hesitate between 2 sizes, 9.5 and 10, with the Hoka Clifton 9. Both sizes are ok, but not perfect. I usually wear 10 with everyday Nike walking shoes, and my last running shoes were 9.5 Asics (a liiiiitle too small) . Is it better for the shoes to be too big or too small?
My problem is that I have black nails in my 2nd to 4th toes, not in my big toe... Also in foot shape shoes like the Topo Atmos, Topo Specter and Altra Olympus 5. Those toes aren't longer than my big toe... Is easy to see that there's more room for those toes than in front of thumb toe. Larger size will fix that? My bigger foot is 27.7cm(27.5cm the other one) and I wear 11US(29cm)
@@Kalvi It sounds like you have enough room, but something else may be going on if you’re getting black toenails. It may be a good idea to see a podiatrist.
Hi Matt. I'm wearing a regular width shoe as I have flat wide forefoot but narrow heel. The front and heel is a good fit but the mid shoe my foot tends to lop wider than the sole. Are these too narrow then?
Just bought a replacement pair of Asics GT2000 10's and am completely torn between size 10.5 or 11. The differences seem so marginal... no hill slippage etc, but the 11's do seem to have more gathering of martial on top of the toe box - Is that a sign of them being too big?? 11's have full thumbs width gap...10.5 just a touch less. My older GT 2000's were 10.5 and bought from a proper shop, but seem smaller then the new version. (unfortunately, I can't test run as the return's policy won't allow).
Yes, the gathering of material at the top can be a indication the shoes are a little too big, at least in the volume of the shoe. It sounds like the 10.5 will work better for you. 👊🏽
I just bought a pair of speedgoat 4, and I have about half a thumb’s width of space at the toes. If I go half a size up, it’ll probably be a little bit more than a thumb’s width. In this case do you suggest I stay at the current size or move up?
If you have free returns, I’d suggest getting the bigger size to try them. Sizes don’t change much and you may find the bigger size is perfect! Either way, you’ll find out what’s best for you! LMK how you get on!
@@its_Matt_B_ thanks for you advice. I’ll have to wait a couple of weeks for them to restock so I can get the correct size, but I think it’ll be worth the wait
It isn’t quite as simple as picking a size. The overall volume of the shoe must be taken into consider as well as the width of the toe box. It would be best to try on both sizes and choose the size that feels best.
@@its_Matt_B_ I think it's because I have long toes. The forefoot especially in plated trainers doesn't feel right half size lower. Just bought the Speed 4 and even though the smaller size actually fit ok the spring was under my toes rather than on the metatarsal ends. It just didn't feel right.
Hello, I bought Brooks glycerin the length (written on the packaging) is 29 cm, but their insoles are shorter than asics nimbus that thier length is (written on the packging) 28.5 cm. Why does Asics write incorrect lengths?
The length written on the box should be length of the insole? all companies I checked (nike, brooks, sacony...)it's just like that. The length written on the box is exactly the length of the insole. Only Asics listed a smaller number than the actual length of the insole at 0.5 cm. I wonder what the number that Asics write on the box indicates?
@@דניאלברגמן i dont agree. I measure tons of insoles with Nike, adidas , puma, converse, new balance and almost never the inner insole was correct with what on box or shoe tongue measure say
I'd rather go with much snugger than you described. I find many faster runners go for snug and hobby joggers talk about comfort and toe room. just my opinion and I may be full of it 😀 Liked the pulling out the insole example! Obvious but I never thought of it. Great for my wife who has big feet and tries to hide them with smaller shoes.
I don't have any experience interacting with elite runners or their personal shoe fit, so I can't really say. As 99.9% of runners are hobby joggers and podiatrists and "shoe-fit-experts" agree about shoes having a little room being the ideal, I tend to side with the majority. However I recognize the fallacy in thinking the majority are correct just because there's more of them. With that said, you're right to go with a snugger fit if that's what works best for you! 🤷🏻♂ It's funny you say your wife is trying to hide her big feet with smaller shoes. You know what they say about birds of a feather... 🤣
My foot size is 9 and I bought shoes with uk 10 size . I thought I screwed things up. There was no return policy. But surprisingly I am more running with these shoes. Its been six months now. I'm so glad to hear your shoes are working out for you. It can be a bit funny how much bigger shoes can fit and still fit right!
Size/fit varies soooo much by brand. Buying shoes without at least having tried them is a complete gamble.

Brilliant! Glad your shoes are going to work for you. 👊🏼
@@its_Matt_B_ I use 26.0 cm shoe for my daily us of a specific brand. But, whenever i try a different brand (like Onitsuka)of the same size, my longest feet feels cramped inside it. So i had to return them. I think 27.0 cm would have been fine.

That’s true about your feet swelling, especially if it’s hot out or you’re running for a long time! 👊🏽
Thanks for the good information. I've always worn shoes with the exact length as my feet and very snug.

You’re allowed to go 9.5
If it’s jusr .5 difference (e.g.

@ it sounds like you’re just experiencing a different brands sizing. I normally wear 13 in most shoes but I wear 12.5 in Hoka.
@@its_Matt_B_ ah okay, well, I will just have to get a 7 and see if that’s better, then return one. Frustrating! Mostly because, I tried to do it the “right way” and get fitted in store but they had no stock of the wide fit 🤦♀️ thanks for your help

Me too have morton’s toe. Its quite annoying that we have to use the 2nd toe instead of thumb as reference all the time
Morton's toe is said to be a sign of nobility! 🤣 It's not the worst problem in the world!
(LOL)
Traditionally, Asics run narrow and a bit short, but this is ridiculous!

I understand it seeming insulting to go up in shoe size, but take comfort that no one but you will give your shoe size a second thought! 🤣 (at least I hope it’s comforting!)

I’m going through this now about to spend 200 on size 11 told I’m 10 but keep getting blisters, hoping it’ll be right choice
Amazing video. And informative start to end! Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 👊🏼 Having the right size shoes makes the difference in being comfortable on our runs, and if we’re comfortable we keep doing it! 💥

Hi
Can you do a video showing dangers of running in larger shoes. I'm not talking about blisters. I'm talking about orthopedic damage. Damage to the bones that may take years to heal
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into the details!👊🏽
Is it thumbs width between the end of toe and the end of the inside of the toebox? Or the outside tip of the shoe?
The difference is about 3mm so nearly half a size in difference.
Generally between your toe and the inside of your shoe. Your toe doesn’t know how thick the material is. It only wants enough room to be comfortable.
Thanks Matt. As a new and older runner and slowly increasing miles I just started to get hotspots on on the bottom of my left foot. Thanks for these techniques and thoughts, I will keep them in mind when buying and trying shoes.
Glad I could help! Keep up the running! You’re going to see improvements for a long time! 💪🏽

Thank you, saved me buying size 12 and wasting my money now I know I'm size 13
Comfort is king! Glad you went up a size!
Ugh! That sounds uncomfortable! I’m glad to hear you got measured and won’t squish your feet any more.

Useful thanks. I have large feet for a woman & it means I have to verge into men’s sizes but men’s shoes are generally too wide for me so I have difficulty getting a good fit.
Sorry to hear you struggle to find a good fit! when you find what works, stick with it! 👊🏼
I have three fingers between the eyelets but that means they are too small?? 😵💫
@@Phoenix-ov5gg You could try a different lacing technique however it sounds like the X4 may simply not fit your foot. Everyone has a slightly different foot shape and not all shoes work for everyone. I agree that it’s a real pain to figure all this stuff out.
@@Phoenix-ov5gg If your shoes feel ok, then they’re ok, however you could probably use a wider shoe.
@ thank you for your suggestion!

Hey Matt do you have any suggestions for heel cups/pads for heel slippage
Sorry, I haven't used any so can't make any recommendations. I did quickly look them up on Amazon and these seem inexpensive with 13,000+ ratings: amzn.to/3PHXajJ
Good luck! LMK what you find and if they work for you!
very helpful; thank you very much.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you found it useful!
Excellent video and to the point 👍

Hi, I am having shin splints on side of both legs. Although, I am not a runner. Sometimes I walk with fast pace. I fee shin pain especially walking on unbalance surface or inclining. I recently purchased a running shoe for daily walk purposes. I hope i will not get shin pain anymore.
Try to lower your activity level a bit too! You may have to let your injury heal before you can continue at the level and intensity you’re at now.
Great video ! Super informative ! :)
Cheers! Thanks for watching! 👊🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ 1 cm of space would be fine. Nike’s always snug fit on me. Adidas shoes, i find them narrower. I might try 10.5 UK again though.
Love ur tips! Thank you so much ❤
Thanks, Neasonia! 👊🏽
Nope
This is great information, thank you
Thanks, David! 👊🏽
Great advice 👍👏👏

Thats good advice Matt
Hi Matt, I am looking to buy running shoe, i usualy by UK size 7 this time I wan to check i proper size and buy.. My exact size comes to 24cm suggest me if I can buy 26cm (UK7) or 25cm (UK6) few brands don't have UK6.5 size confused 🤔
This is tricky because there’s more to shoe fitting than just the length: the width of a shoe and the volume play a roll too. I suggest trying the shoe you want on first or buying online from a place that lets you return the pair that don’t fit.
I wear wide shoes, xx wide if available and its feels great.
Nice! It's great that so many companies offer wide versions of their shoes! 👊🏼
Matt, thank you!
BTW, all the smartest and best looking people have longer second toes!
Do you have a video on the Brooks revel 6?
No, sorry! I haven't run in them!
I have one foot 4/5 ths longer than the other. Is it ok to have a little more than a thumb's width of extra space above the toes with the shorter foot?
There’s no hard and fast rule. If you can make it comfortably than you’ll be fine. It may be good to wear a thicker sock on the smaller foot.
When I press down on the heel, around the ankle it kind of loosens? Should it always stay tight around my ankle or is it okay to come away a bit?
Does your heel move when you walk/run? If so, you could get blisters.
Definitely a little too big. You can always wear thicker socks if needed.
@@its_Matt_B_ Thank you ! Cause the 9.5 have exactly a thumb width so I don’t really know, might exchange it with the 10
what shoes can you recommend that are sponge and soft?
Try the Puma Magnify Nitro 2 or the Mizuno Neo Vista.
@@its_Matt_B_ thanks
Great video! Thanks
👊🏽 Thanks for watching!
Hi Matt. I'm wearing a regular width shoe as I have flat wide forefoot but narrow heel. The front and heel is a good fit but the mid shoe my foot tends to lop wider than the sole. Are these too narrow then?
Are they still comfortable? Ultimately that is your goal!
@@its_Matt_B_ Thanks Matt... appreciate your time & advice!
Thanks Helped a Lot
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching the video!
@@itgma_keithape Agreed! It’s always worth waiting to have a shoe fit correctly! Good luck! 👊🏼
4:42 Hi, Matt! My feet size is 23.5 cm should I buy size 24.6 cm or 25.3 cm? Thank you!
It isn’t quite as simple as picking a size. The overall volume of the shoe must be taken into consider as well as the width of the toe box. It would be best to try on both sizes and choose the size that feels best.
@@its_Matt_B_ thank you Matt! I learned a lot! Now I'm well aware. Thank you!
I like at least a thumb width in my trainers. They always fit well in the heel and midfoot. However physiologically they can sometimes feel too long.
Yeah, I get this feeling of them being too long but they definitely feel the best with that much space.
Hello,
I bought Brooks glycerin the length (written on the packaging) is 29 cm, but their insoles are shorter than asics nimbus that thier length is (written on the packging) 28.5 cm.
Why does Asics write incorrect lengths?
Different companies measure their shoes differently. It can be frustrating that there isn’t a standard way to measure.
It's funny you say your wife is trying to hide her big feet with smaller shoes. You know what they say about birds of a feather... 🤣
