The video is disingenuous. I get what they were trying to say but a lot of military did actually go down there, it just wasn't as flashy as all the aircraft flying over the city. I was in the Marines, most of my unit volunteered to go and they sent half of us.
The MP's were fantastic! You always called them first before NOPD at that point. One of the many things that haunt me from this was that it started to feel "normal" when the MP's would bump into in the deli on Frenchman St with the butt of their guns. They weren't doing it on purpose, it was a tiny place. But you honestly saw the absolute best in people, and you also saw some of the worst. One of my favorite parts of the video is the tag of Not as seen on TV. True Dat!

I like the apache attack helicopter with it arms that carry weapons humbled to be lowering supplies to those who are in peril rather than persuing alleged aggressor ( imaginary enemies of the US), I wish all our military aircraft would be utilized to this extent
Our military is not a defense force. In a perfect world, yes it would be nice to provide humanitarian aide, but the U.S. Military is designed to blow stuff up, and that's it.

This song gave me hope. When it first came out I had just taken my 3 year old to get his glasses fixed. We couldn't afford a spare pair, and when we walked out with no glasses he said, "But mom, I can't see the colors..." Absolutely broke my heart, I got him in the car and started crying. I turned on the radio and Live 105 was playing this song for the first time.
Everytime i watch this video. I get a huge smile on my face and think to myself. That is all completely possible. because with a couple of modifications to the gunships, and Harriers and B-2's it is possible. and i just smile at myself and think... too bad we didnt respond with this great of an effort..

I stare at her shocked for a while before finally saying 'Mom..read the sign. That stuff never happened.' And it makes me sad that anyone would think that on their own country. All I could of...is we should have at least tried to do some of those things.
I remember being there in 2008 when the Dome opened and how we cheered when this played. All the emotion of burying loved ones, losing everything and having to pick up the pieces this was a ray of hope.
Absolutely surreal to see how far New Orleans has come and to see how much the military aided an ailing city. I think New Orleans' recovery will go down as one of the most complete and quickest recoveries ever seen after such a damaging event.
Love the video and the idea of it...I think Bille-Joe saying "Cry to my daddy on the telephone" sounds epic...plus I love how Mike Dirnt seems so into it towards the end
