"Feed two birds with one scone" is my darling friend's sweet alternative.
Absolutely love it
i adore this one because if you say it without hesitation people often only catch it in retrospect, and are often delighted
I'm writing that down and shall use it at every opportunity
Came here to comment this!! This is my favorite thing :)
YES when she was talking about eating two slices of bread I was like darling that’s a sandwich
...Never in my life did I expect to hear Chamillionaire's "Ridin' Dirty" in a Bernadette Banner video, and yet never in my life have I ever been so joyfully surprised.
Right? I was absolutely convinced the video had ended and an ad or a random recommended video had started playing, but it wasn’t 😂😂
I was like “meme mom is that you?”
I was similarily surprised at the Mii Theme popping up. That gave me whiplash.
@@randompikmin4103 I had to double check cause I was wondering if I'd imagined it
I literally laughed out loud when I heard "Ridin' Dirty" at the end of the video. Classic!!!
"Bernadette is so eloquent!!"

"Welcome to the Workroom" sounds like a name for this type of vlogging series?
Ooh yes definitely! I couldn't for the life of me decide on a Series Title™ but this serves the purpose ideally. 😁✨
Excellent title! and a wonderful glimpse into your thought process.
I would love to see more of these in the future! The atmosphere is just marvelous!!!!
YES!! and please linger a bit longer on your designs so we can absorb the art a bit more before you move off to something else.
10/10 would watch more of these with undying glee and enthusiasm.
"7 projects at once is not a good idea"
Me: *slowly turns to glance at my WIP pile, feeling personally called out*
So true!
😅🤭
Only 7? Well, at least you will get them done. I feel like mine is in a perpetual slow motion. I got one done last month...Yay!
I came to make this comment and did not expect to get called out before I could
I felt this. My needlework and weaving projects in progress are getting out of hand.
“it will take 8 and a half meters of fabric” soooo the whole 9 yards?
Yes
damn you
🤣
I was making a skirt a couple months ago and took about half an hour to set up a "whole 9 yards" pun... so worth it :D
Hear me out: A Victorian Debutante gown. For whenever you suddenly need to travel back in time to be presented to Her Majesty the Queen.
The Victorian period lasted over 60 years, with the fashionable silhouette changing every 5-10 years. So the dress could be very different, and you better decide which decade you are interested in :)
@@Olga_Ovechkina but wasn't the whole thing that the debutante gown didn't change and it was "behind" the fashions?
@@KM-rt5jj No. Fashion then was not just some new trends that many people like. Fashion was an analogue of decency, so that no woman who belonged to a decent society could ignore it.
And if in the 1850s everyone wore crinolines, in the 1870s-1880s bustles, then the debutantes did the same. And I only mentioned two periods, but in fact in the 19th century in each decade there was a different silhouette of dresses and different fashion.
Bernadette “I’ll take 7 projects, no problem”
Me: “I’ll take on one and maybe finish sometime this century…”
You can do it 💪💪
I'll buy all to do it ,think about it, make notes, then forget where it is or that it's been on front me😳🐦🌹
@@bernadettebanner Thanks for the great videos! Do you think you would ever do a video about your fountain pen(s)? Have you ever tried the blackwing pencils?
I am like I'll start 20 projects and may or may not finish two in this century... Sigh....
Stop! One minute! - I'm always happy to watch your movies and admire your projects, but I have to refer to what you showed in the last part of this movie, how you planned the cuts of the fabric - the latter in stripes :) This is wool as far as I remember. all materials, except those with a plain weave - they cannot be used to cut parts of one garment in two different directions. On fabrics such as velvet, it is obvious, but in the case of cloth or fabrics made of worsted wool, the hair always runs in one direction. If you ignore this rule, it may be that the two different parts of the skirt or jacket will have a different shade depending on the lighting. To check this, place or hang the material so that you can see it in natural light "both ways", next to you. It would be a pity such high-quality fabric. Best regards, I am second to all your projects
Yes please to more like this - especially with random fowl footage!
YESSSSS
Yesss ! Please, more Vlogs !! The ''how I organise my sewing projects'' bit is particularly useful ... to a friend of mine. Not to me, I have no issues to plan my sewing ahead ... 😅
Fascinating workroom project video. More please💚🤗
@@leadupont8588 right?! It's MY friend that has the fabric stash issue..I mean, really, the scraps she keeps😂
I agree!!
How is it that her “random vlogs” have the quality of professional documentaries?
I always have at least 4 projects on the go at once and often 7-10 if you include knitting and crochet.
A lot of filming experience by now, and obviously a very well-developed sense of aesthetics? :-)
Background in film studies & lots of experience! It's one of the aspects of BB's work I really enjoy, you can definitely see how her background affects her production quality 😍
Editing... Hours of OCD level obsessive editing
"In the Workroom" actually sounds pretty good for a series title. Your special variant of sewing vlogs.
Bernadette : *explains what a split skirt is*
Me, an intellectual : oh I know what that means, it’s like Rachel Maksy’s ✨SECRET PANTS ✨

Same!!💚💜😹
My sib has some trousers that I call Hakama-trousers (remind me of Hakamas) but on the first look they seem to be a skirt.
@@sayuriando3379 this is so cool ! I think it was what inspired Paul Poiret in the 20s !
My mother always called them divided skirts. At school we wore short divided skirts fo PE. Much better than the navy blue nickers worn in some schools!!

Alternatives to "2 birds, 1 stone" I've used in the past:
"That's 2 dinners in 1 pot"
"That's a solution squared/cubed"
"Walking 2 dogs with 1 leash"
I like all of these!
Yours are much more creative, I’m taking notes 😅
I'm a fan of "feeding two birds with one scone"
The two dinners in one pot makes the most sense to me.
Feeding two guinea pigs with one carrot-leaf!
Bernadette: "It'll be like eating two slices of bread at once"
Me: "Like a sandwich?"
Bernadette: "It'll be like eating three slices of bread at once"

Bernadette is my absolute favorite to play in the background whilst I sit and sew. Her calm voice and the music she plays is just ideal. And she's the first person I've encountered who doesn't edit out her mistakes, but rather shows them and explains what went wrong! #respect
"Feeding two birds with one scone" is I think what you were looking for there.
Oooh, that's a really good adaptation! Keeps the ending vowel and everything.
Nice! 🙃
Oh I like that one. I was thinking “hitting two targets with one stone” or “knocking down two targets with one stone” as alternatives.
**cough** scones are bad for birds so the more accurate saying would be killing two birds with one scone but take this with a grain of salt because i learned this information months ago and memory does not serve me well and i googled it again but it didn’t really have a lot of information on the surface so again, take this with a grain of salt **cough**
You do know that birds should not be fed with scones, don't you (because: surprise - it will kill them)? This whole language twisting and eradicating history makes me cringe.
"Eating two slices of bread at one time"
- So a sandwich?
"Eating three slices of bread at once"
- Ah, a club sandwich.

To be honest, seeing videos like this reminds me that you don't just fully form ideas in beautiful watercolor glory and leap straight into the sewing part. XD This was wonderful, I hope you'll let us see more!
Me when i read "Watercolour glory": omg YES 😊🥰
Me when I realised Bernadette DOES do watercolours of her designs: ok, but still YES 😍
That would've saved me from buying a bunch of fabric for projects I didn't even start.. *stares at two large plastic storage tubs of fabric*
"There was quite a quite a substantial amount of enabling in the comments," calls out every UA-cam comment ever.
I almost commented an enabling comment myself but thought I better not, who knows what I might find in the next video... and here we are with fabric purchased in all its glorious stripey goodness.
Bernadette: 7 projects at once is not a wise decision
Me: *glares at teachers*
Mood
i have never related to a comment this much
In uni, at one point I had 9, plus my dissertation :/
I feel this HARD! My college had received feedback from the students of the previous year that said there were too many projects at once (most of them had a deadline at the end of the semester). They took that feedback and had us make the SAME AMOUNT of projects but moved some of the deadlines to an *earlier* date.
Logic never seems to be present at school.
“Accidentally bought some patterns” we’ve all been there.
Recently, actually...
Accidentally buying patterns isn't that bad so long as you don't accidentally order the same pattern several times! I might be speaking from recent experience lol
👏🏼Vlogs 👏🏼In 👏🏼the 👏🏼workroom!!!
Isnt it actually "accidentally bought fabric...." haaaa
Going through my bookcase (I have several to be honest), I realized that I own a Janet Arnold copy. How or why.... I'm baffled. One clue is that the thin but long book was amongst my Venus A. Dodge books. Sigh. Going through my fabric stash and patterns should have prepared me. 🍄🍄🍄
This title is me the night that all my assignments are due
I don't know a thing about sewing, but I find this the most relaxing and interesting channel to listen to, a world away from my own life. I really really love learning about other people's lives, how they live, what they do. This is one of my new favorite channels to watch. xx
“Some of the men’s wear. And all of the women’s wear.” Is probably the most relatable thing for people who like fashion history. 😅🤣

Bernadette: Tackling 7 projects at once is not a wise decision.
Literally anyone in their designated art fields and professions: *sweats nervously*
ahhh yes... *nervously looks at the multiple projects I'm working on at once*
Aye indeed... (remembering the 100s of projects still in the making as new ones still begin thereafter the thought)
We know it's not *wise* but we do it *anyway*
Miss Banner, could you make a video of how you write your projects on paper, with boxes and hatch marks? I.e. Organization
“Two buns, one hug.” Is my saying (I’m a rabbit owner. The more buns you can hug at once the better).
Aww! This is so cute!! 🐇🤗❤️
"Are you done with this period?" Nope. Not even close.
10:40 My friend likes to say “Feeding two birds with one scone,” which has been really helpful when trying to avoid hurting birds with metaphors (great video, excited to see these projects) ♥️
That's cute!
Im stealing this one, too adorable
Nova Scotians and trailer park boys fans are typically unfortunately familiar with one of my favorite malaphors: let’s get two birds stoned at once
That's cute! I will use that one myself. Could I also suggest "petting two kittens/puppies/guinea pigs/etc. with one hand?"
More like, feeding two birds with one hand. A stone wouldn’t make sense, but it’s super wholesome nevertheless.
Bernadette: *feels absolutely thrilled she can get a full three piece suit made out of the fabric she has*
Me: *simultaneously feels positively giddy for her*
And yes, I love seeing the vlogs in the workroom
I know right? I got so much serotonin out of that, I would like to specifically request a collection of these kinds of moments!
Yes, yes, yes!!!
i was fully grinning like a total idiot !!!! what a wonderful moment to share honestly!
I'm so happy for you! I am sitting here consumed by the fact that my ADHD is literally preventing me from picking up anything creative and I'm going to have to bully myself to make it happen (probably the brown kirtle in 1/3rd scale that's been cut out and staring at me from atop my printer for half a year).
And I really need that ink-bottle pencil sharpener.
"feeding two birds with one scone" has been the animal-friendly version I've heard before
My family has always used the version "feed two birds with one peach" with the added touch that a peach is a stone fruit 😊
"Starting 7 projects at once is probably not a wise decision but here we are."

Bernadette: "Starting 7 projects at once is probably not a wise decision"
Me: *both laughing and crying under my pile of crochet projects, embroidery and cross-stitch, and sewing projects* I bought 13 skeins of yarn yesterday. Some of it was mulberry silk and expensive. Is this what insanity feels like? Because I keep looking at Ravelry patterns.
Ravelry is a black hole. Just like Pinterest. I need to stay away from them or they suck my soul 😂
I start projects one at a time, but because I'm terrible about finishing them, I have many projects languishing in the "I got bored/frustrated" basket.
I feel like we may be kindred spirits. I've bought over $700 in fabric since February, and thats been added to my collection of three totes of yarn, cross-stitch supplies, painting supplies, and numerous other projects. I'm trying to get as much done while this wave of interest is still strong, just so I can say I finished things for once!
Ravelry is an amazing resource, a real example of the best uses for the Internet. But goodness, it's sooo easy to get lost in the possibilities...my ravelry favourites list of things I'd like to try making is at least a mile long! Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
@@PonderingStudent It IS an amazing resource. I always get so excited looking through all of the vintage patterns. The fact that they are still accessible and useable. The oldest pattern that I've used so far was from 1915, and I've been eyeballing a ladies' yoke cape from 1904 for a long while.
Honestly B, you can post a 20min video of sewing seams and we will still be here! For the vibes.. the vlogs.. the aesthetic.. Just don't be discouraged, your personality and your dedication makes your content so special :)

"In the workroom"
Sounds like a series. You can sporadically upload for it, and generally just post anything under the label as long as it resembles something of a vlog
“On the Truly Victorian website.” Oh no…
“Accidentally bought some patterns.” As one does.
“Bought the split skirt.” *gasps* {insert high-pitched squeal} I bought the split skirt, too! (And some highly anachronistic seafoam green cotton twill, because I have needs.) I’m so excited!

The moved in the winter.
I love these kinds of vlogs because we get a peak into the chaotic process that is wanting to do so many things all at once, which is entirely a Mood.
Also: instead of the two birds metaphor I shall now use, 'it's like sewing two garments with one needle.'
I am not a seamstress but I love watching how you plan things out. I wish I could sew, let alone do what you do!!
You absolutely can! I admired Bernadette for a long time and I recently bit the bullet and acquired an antique sewing machine (absolutely not necessary) and decided on a project for myself. I have never sewn anything in my life besides non-medical face masks. I’m currently in the process of stitching some lace on my Victorian chemise by hand. Do the thing! I believe I’m your abilities!

@Rebecca E. Webber I live in Ireland, and a lot of girls' schools wear kilts, or plaid skirts. I don't know if it's a proper kilt so to speak, but it fastens with buckles and safety pins, so it might be? My school did recently switch to skirts in the same fabric, but a lot of people still wear the kilt.

“It’s Gonna take a lifetime to get through, but, you know what, we’re gonna have a good time.”
Life motto
Right there

Bernadette: "I hope you got a little bit of crafty creative work done yourself"
Me, looking at my unwritten dissertation: "Some other time, my friend"
Oh God, I'm having flashbacks!
10:38 Don't worry Bernadette I gotcha, what my mommy likes to say is, "Feeding three birds with one seed." We don't want any hungry birds here!
The split skirt -- the victorian predecessor of the skort.
Now I want a whole day all to myself to lay everything out and plan my next ten projects, instead of letting them lurk in the back of my mind causing considerable anxiety.
Also, one more yes to more vlogs, this has made the tedious job of folding clothes so much more enjoyable!
basically anyone in the creative field: **laughing crying in WIPs and new ideas**
Ok YES YES to random project videos. I learn so much in just the little tidbits that get thrown out and the way you lay out you pattern pieces.
I am absolutely not tired of this period and I never will be.
obsessed with the fact that she can't stand wine the beverage but dresses almost exclusively in wine the color
“Feeding two birds with one scone” is an equivalent expression to the one you were trying to avoid with the breads
You do know that birds should not be fed with scones, don't you (because: surprise - it will kill them)? This whole language twisting and eradicating history makes me cringe.
@@misspeach3755 feel free to replace scone with something birds would eat. A fruit perhaps?
@@theonlyenekoeneko feed two birds with one apple? (According to Google I think they can eat apples)
@@erose1320 works for me! I only offered scone originally because I’ve seen it before and I suspect scones were chosen because they rhyme with stone. No malicious intent!
@@theonlyenekoeneko I also like the rhyming of two birds with one scone! The image of a sophisticated bird eating a scone is ~chefs kiss~
I love the work room videos. I learned to sew from ladies who were born in the Edwardian Era. And they were taught by ladies sewing in the Victorian Era. My grandmother posed for photos in the 1880s and 1890s. Beautiful inset lace blouses and black walking skirts. And perhaps some split skirts as she drove to work in her personal single hitch trap. A beautiful lady who blessed her daughters and grand daughters with thick brunette hair and lovely complexions. And she was an accomplished seamstress by hand and with an 1890s treadle. In the 1950s, I learned to sew on a similar treadle. As I watch your videos. I see so many skills I learned between ages 5 and 10. I love your content!!!!!
Yes please. We need ALL of the sewing contents that you're able to give us 😭
