    Quilts would be such an easy way to use the small cabbage. Especially when you use such nice wools. And as for sewing content being hard to produce because of the time that is required by each project, we love vlogs and studio organizing videos and shopping hauls and outfit look books. Not every video has to be massively taxing. Be sure to take a break!

    When you aren’t using your dress form, you can dress it up and put it in front of a window to creep out your neighbors. Or try new outfits. Or use her to make an entire outfit out of tiny scraps of cabbage just to make use of it somewhere. Maybe it would be useful somewhere.
    Or you can put a melon on top and call it Melon Lord.
    And i know the feeling, there are only so many times you can watch a cape swoosh on game of thrones or Harry Potter or other without wanting a cape of one’s own. Gotta learn to sew first though, lol.

    • @jennagrace1534
      @jennagrace1534 3 роки тому +31

      That sounds fantastic and vaguely as though you have a dress form that you have put in these scenarios already 😅 as for the not sewing, I know that some people who do cosplay or drag often will just use glue (hot glue, fabric glue, etc) instead of sewing the garments. It probably works best on items that don’t need to be washed very often.

    • @mcanta2898
      @mcanta2898 3 роки тому +18

      @@jennagrace1534 i do not, in fact, have a dress form, just a cryptid vibe. You see a model with which to shape clothes to put in the corner of the room, I see a way to freak out people passing by when they see a victorian/edwardian figure at a window in the corner of their eye.
      For the cabbage idea I thought instead of having great heaps of cabbage accumulate, little bits that are not shaped right to be useful, or in that awkward size between too small for another use but too big for stuffing could be quickly sown together to form a dress or shirt or something, like a potato sack, not very complex garment, that way you get stuffing cabbage, reusable cabbage, and cabbage dress, for the occasional day you have to look like your fairy godmother was drunk on the job.
      Nah, i wear my clothes to tatters or not at all, so this has to be practical. Hot glue will probably just annoy me. In truth I can sew, and I don’t mind it, I just cant knot the thread, so it unties real easy. Frankly, I havent tried in a while, so I might get some small pieces of fabric and see if my knotting skills have risen from rock bottom. And I can kinda see what Ms. Bernadette does to tie her thread. Just laziness! Story of my life

    Love to see there are more young people enjoying and decorating their homes with antiques. We love hunting for them. My husband and I got married 21 years ago and decorated our home with antiques, adding on and changing out as we went along. That earned us many a joke among friends, but all in good fun. Though we do get a lot of compliments about our unique pieces too. We know we don’t fit the mold. Who wants that anyway right? We are the only ones in our friend-groups that have an antique interior and love vintage clothes. My husband and I always joke that we have old souls. We are drawn to craftsmanship, the fantasizing about the backstories, the amount of details. And that goes for furniture, art, lamps, fashion, carpets etc. Love your videos. Bernadette, you frequently mention the idea that the viewers are doing something else when watching your videos (e.g. sewing, studying). I thought that you might like to know, that is not always the case. I have been watching your videos for quite a while now, and I have to admit that I give them my full and undivided attention. I love your content because of the feel it has-- this being due to your editing, your (public) personality, the calm energy you bring, and your thought process. I am not a seamstress, but I love seeing how you tackle projects and go about beginning them, and the eagerness you have for your craft. It is always refreshing to see someone do what they love and talk candidly about their likes, dislikes, missteps, planning process, and how they jump around from project to project. I hate to hear you sell yourself short, and not recognize that you produce wonderful content that is deserving of full attention! I'm excited to see what the rest of the year brings for you, and see some of your projects get crossed out and replaced with new ones! Take care.

    Starting a new project is always more fun....
    *Looks at stash of unfinished cross stitch projects that are like 85% done because I don't like back stitching
    **Also looks at stash of new projects
    ***Spouse yells at me for picking up new patterns
    ... Anyway, these sewing vlogs give me so much inspiration. Thank you and good luck!

      This made me laugh, because my sister just had a fit because I told her I was thinking of picking up doing pottery, actually enabling her husband’s purchase of a pottery wheel, because I have always wanted to learn pottery. She said, “you already make bread from scratch (sourdough), crochet, spin, and sew! You do not need another hobby!” She was immune to my attempts to bribe her with promised cooking bowls, baking pots, etc. She has no sympathy with my MHPD (Multiple Hobby Personality Disorder).

      Back stitching IS the worst part of cross stitch though. There is a joy in collecting hobbies, always learning and really you are being considerate because your loved ones will always have new ideas and avenues for gifts for you 😊

      So I hate backstitch on cross stitch patterns but I *love* blackwork, which is basically backstitching. There is no logic in hobbies.

    There are some things in this world, like ironing, that absolutely must be over dramatized! I hope all the projects don’t feel like their piling up and wish you the best on your quest for affordable antiques. Also, all my ‘projects’ are just fabric currently and today might be a nice rainy day to start them….. sidenote: is it just me, or are Bernadette’s videos perfect for rainy mornings

    Your description of the split skirt reminded me that my grandmother said she had a similar style skirt the she wore when she would ride her pony to school (mid 1900’s). Folkwear Patterns has/had a Big Sky Riding Skirt pattern that would be similar to what you described.

    I love you and your enthusiasm! Au, if only I was younger, don't worry I'm in my 80's, but your exuberance is contagious and I love your dress code it is beautiful much better than the now look! I have enjoyed learning a lot about sewing from you. My wife sews a lot and I enjoyed it at times helping her, with the exception of the pins on the floor that somehow I always found with my bare feet. Our sewing was for our kids so it was not as complex as yours. What you do with preservation is great. God bless and keep you safe and healthy.

    Wow! I love that you were all over the place on this one. When you admire someone for their organization, project dedication, and poise, then you see their dozen just-started project piles and giddiness about starting new ones; it makes me feel like maybe I'm not as organizationally dishevelled as I thought. Love your enthusiasm and your flat is coming along beautifully! Cheers.

    Thank you for the update. It makes for wonderful company & inspiration. Your recent videos encourage me to be more forgiving of myself for an ever growing fabric & yarn stash and multiple project plans - allowing the excitement to be the main sentiment. And I am so SO excited to see all of your projects coming together! You also remind me to take a breath, and to enjoy the process of making, where I can sometimes get too focused on trying to finish things as fast as I can, which ultimately leads to frustration. I always love to see you sew (and plan and cut out, and iron) and even if you feel your footage is incomplete or not aesthetic enough for your channel, you can always share those bits and pieces in a patreon vlog to great appreciation!

    Oh my goodness. I'm so envious seeing antique stores with so many amazing really old truly antique items in countries like UK and US. Here in Australia finding large quantities of really old items in one shop is fairly rare. I could spend days in a store like that. 😊
