  • “Flight 505” by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
    Lyrics:
Well, I was happy here at home
    I got everything I need
    Happy bein' on my own
Just living the life I lead
Well, suddenly it dawned on me
That this was not my life
So I just phoned the airline girl
And said, "Get me on flight number 505
Get me on flight number 505"
    Well, I confirmed my reservation
    Then I hopped a cab
    No idea of my destination
    And feeling pretty bad
With my suitcase in my hand
In my head, my new life
So then I told the airline girl
"Well, get me on flight number 505
Get me on flight number 505"
    Alright
Well, I sat right there in my seat
    Well, feeling like a king
With the whole world right at my feet
"Of course I'll have a drink"
    Well, suddenly I saw
That we never ever would arrive
He put the plane down in the sea
The end of flight number 505
The end of flight number 505
    Alright
Whew, they put the plane down in the sea
The end of flight number 505
The end of flight number 505

Aftermath was my very first 33 LP. I listened to it a lot as a young teenager, at a time when music fastens itself in memory like no other. Songs like Flight 505 can't be forgotten, and for some reason they're more alive even than the tunes that hit it big on the charts. The bass line is too wicked unless you're already wicked enough to enjoy that dagger edge. Some music is too funky to appeal to a wide enough audience to achieve forgettable popularity.

  • @franktheo2055

All of the music by the Rolling Stones have a catchy intro to them and they always follow through into a great song. Ian Stuarts piano starts off booging to an eerie burlesque western saloon thing and then the song jumps out at you along with Bill Wyman's bass grunting out notes throughout the enter tune. Flight 505 - Room For On More Honey !

The Stones proved that even early on in their career that they could weave together similarly clever and imaginative lyrics in their own songs just as their idol Chuck Berry did in his. And this song is definitely influenced by Berry both musically and lyrically.

Another example of Jagger singing in the American country style. Another from this same album Aftermath) is "High and Dry". I love the bass with the fuzztone on it. When I used to listen to this back then I thought it was sooo cool . I always thought it odd, Jagger telling us about how he crashed and died in the sea ! Funny .

    • @odietamo9376
      @odietamo9376 Рік тому

I’ve been crazy about this song since it came out in 1966 and I never thought the lyric said, or even implied he had died, only that it crash landed. “He put the plane down in the sea” implies a successful landing at sea, which would mean most would be able to get out of the plane and survive-like the so called “miracle on the Hudson” a few years ago. But what an adventure!

You’re wrong Z. It was a musical joke/reference to a previous song-the song that made them:Satisfaction. You’d know that if you had been around. 😊

The bass line sounds like a fat person walking back from the all you can eat breakfast..

Can't stop thinking how the One After 909 somehow played a part in this right?

oh how we used to dance at night
drinkin' Absolut Vodka till we felt alright
yeah how we used to dance at night
we never even had a fight
until one time I crossed that line
makin' sure it was still mine
I coulda seen it comin' they were 'round to redefine
but never will I try to forget how we'd both decline
    so that was that
    she said
with a voice full of regret
me, I merely looked at her with love all in my head
and she made smile but so did I
and I still can't figure out exactly why
we'd break our silence me oh my
we'd take the wild ends out to fly
