I used to make up my face with heavy blush and eyeshadow. My dad would punish me and throw it out saying I looked like a ho but I see these old videos and I was on the right track
A combination of Phil Collins vocals, looks like Michael Bolton when he was Pop heavy rock and a little of the cars Elliot Easton guitar playing. Great song from the 80's you never hear anymore.
Came across this as a YT suggestion, I haven't seen this video or this artist since it came out over 40 yrs ago. Forgot what a great track and artist he was.....
Me too! Today! I used to work at a local TV station in town in the 80's, and we left MTV up on satellite (when the dish was not being used) and watched MTV videos all the time. This was one of my favs.
This song has been running in my head since i was a 10 yr old sitting in front of mtv! Glad we were there for the beginning, back when it was all music. Nick Lowe's Cruel to be Kind is another favorite of that time. It's so awesome to be able to pull up songs from the corners of my memory.
Martin Briley is really my kind of performer. He sounds like P.Gabriel/P.Collins,and looks just a little bit like Marty Balin.I think the blonde is taking back the watch that she gave him.
The only bad thing about this video, is that Martin himself isn’t making no where near the money off this UA-cam video than UMG is making. Who would have guessed that ‘promotional videos’ would find a home on something that didn’t exist back then. He is an AWESOME talent. Check out his website.
Thanks, Todd, for commenting on what really matters (the music, people!) instead of The Girl. I loved this song and nearly blew out the speakers in my car back then :-) Can you post the link to Martin's website or is it the obvious?
Ah yet another journey to the wonderful 1980s, when our nation was much better than now. My mind goes back to when I was a lad of 13 hangin' out at my subdivision's pool with this song blaring from the ghetto blaster atop the Coke machine. For those of you who have heard of what a fantastic decade the 80s was, all of what you have heard is true. Dadgummit I wanna go back!
I never did it, no, I won't admit it Why should I lie for you anymore You never loved me, you pushed and shoved me I see the woman I never saw I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted It still hurts but the pain has shifted I'm lookin' back at the time that drifted by But I won't cry for the wasted years 'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears Feeling neglected, used and rejected You need a shoulder to lean upon Baby you picked him, found your next victim Don't worry someone will come along I broke the spell that you kept me under I had enough of the rain and thunder I lost track of the time and I wonder why But I won't cry for the wasted years 'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears I'll sit around and drink a few more beers Until the memory just disappears 'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted It still hurts but the pain has shifted I'm lookin' back at the time that drifted by But I won't cry for the wasted years 'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears 'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears 'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
Love how the opening shot is a nearly identical copy of the album cover - just missing the drowning man. Also love the all white/maple neck Strat...made famous by the one Jimi Hendrix played the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock with....:)
Damn, what a great song. Killer riff, great solo, l-will-survive lyrics. Admittedly, the video is hokey in the way that a lot of the early-80's M.T.V. videos were (although I love the reveal at the end, when the artifice of the whole thing is revealed). I'm not at all surprised to read that the artist performed as a session guitarist with people like Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, Mick Jones (of Foreigner) et al. Is it just me, or does his voice sound kind of like Phil Collins' voice?
2023 and still loving this song! Awesome 80's!

The ultimate breakup song
Underrated track. Peaked as high as No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts in 1983.
Better song than #36. Should've been a top ten hit.
My local top 40 station at the time had a sense for these songs, and kept it in steady rotation as if it were in the top 10.
Intro reminds me of " let's put the X in sex" by my favorite band KISS! Check it out and let me know
That's it??? I STILL love this song!!
The women in the 80s were astoundingly, achingly gorgeous. Especially in rock videos. She'll never pry that Strat outta his hands tho lol.
I used to make up my face with heavy blush and eyeshadow. My dad would punish me and throw it out saying I looked like a ho but I see these old videos and I was on the right track
This song is the sad story of my life. If I could just go back to the early 1980s.
Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.
they were good times for sure
Loved this song since the 80's!
This is the song that came to mind when I realized that my marriage was over.
A combination of Phil Collins vocals, looks like Michael Bolton when he was Pop heavy rock and a little of the cars Elliot Easton guitar playing. Great song from the 80's you never hear anymore.

yeh i remember that one , love it
One of the coolest, modest, and unique guitar solos EVER!
Oh yes! and somewhat with an 'Easton-esque' treatment. wonderfully 'smart', musical, and melodic.
The dude from Autograph partially rips it off about 4 or 5 years later lol.
Great tune. Who would of ever thought that my life would end up as this video
Me too man. I remember when this song came Out I was 12, now all these years later I lived it. A couple times.
No kidding LOL
I hope at least you kept the guitar
Yes
Still have this 45 in a box somewhere. Great tune for my fifteen year old ears in '83!
Best break-up song ever.
I heard this song on Sirius radio and I remembered it from back in the day! Great song!
Me too! Today! I used to work at a local TV station in town in the 80's, and we left MTV up on satellite (when the dish was not being used) and watched MTV videos all the time. This was one of my favs.
17-year-old me had the serious hots for his ex. Thanks for putting this up here.
I admit I completely forgot about this song and video. Was reminded about it on the radio yesterday so I had to check it out.
Same......such a great freaking tune!!!!
This song was released just before I graduated college. Great memories.
Great video and tune. Another catchy break up song from the 80's.
Indeed! This is a good one.
It was so catchy the time and words so sarcastic because hey I'll be without you song!!!
I remember when this song first came out. It wasn't in rotation for very long, but it always stuck with me throughout time.
This song has been running in my head since i was a 10 yr old sitting in front of mtv! Glad we were there for the beginning, back when it was all music.

I love this song, but just realize that the video reminds me of Bob Welch's Ebony Eyes video,
Omg. I absolutely love this song. So glad to find it again!!!!!! ❤️❤️

Oh God yes. Also 13 when this came out. Memories. Tears for the days that are no more
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely timeless classic!
Still good after all these years...
I never did it, no, I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore
You never loved me, you pushed and shoved me
I see the woman I never saw
I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm lookin' back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
Feeling neglected, used and rejected
You need a shoulder to lean upon
Baby you picked him, found your next victim
Don't worry someone will come along
I broke the spell that you kept me under
I had enough of the rain and thunder
I lost track of the time and I wonder why
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
I'll sit around and drink a few more beers
Until the memory just disappears
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm lookin' back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
Thanks for posting the lyrics ❤

I haven’t seen this video in years MTV days still a great song and video he’s still as good looking as I remember ❤
I missed this in the 80's, but heard it on XM radio's 80's channel doing a top 40 count down. Love it.
Luv this song!!!!!❤❤❤❤
The changing of his hat is hardly noticeable. LOL
One of my favorites. Great upgrade
PROFESSOR RETRO 😊

wow, i forgot about this song ! 👍
Hey Joan this is for you
I found out when he made this video he was sick he had food poison. That's why he was sitting on the couch
Thank you...💖👍
I owned the album!
Great tune, nice hd vid.
I can actually smell this song. Old perfume, gin, and menthol cigarettes sunk into bottle-blonde hair.
I wonder where she is now?
Song should have been one of Rick Beato's twenty best guitar intros of all time.
Just remember: “she ain’t worth the salt 🧂 in Briley’s tears”. ☝️😁
A song that should never be played with your squeeze in the car.
Damn, what a great song. Killer riff, great solo, l-will-survive lyrics. ❤
Cheaters.
Listen to your gut.
It just is not worth...
So 1989. Black pantyhose, drop waist dress with pleated skirt, patent leather spike heels, blackity black eyeliner...😂😂😂😂
Bob Welch hat and scarf -
At least he got to keep his guitar.
She rips his watch off and he just keeps riffing.
Who knew Bill Engvall had a career before comedy;
Back when MTV was good. That went to crap when they were forced to go top 40 with Michael Jackson.
Do guys really cry like this?
A totally compelling power-pop track. So good!
