Dr. Gene James
This is a Vitamix repair. It stopped working in the midst of use.
I had to replace both brushes.

Good video. I like it when people show warts and all. That's how we learn. Thank You for taking the time to make this video.
Thank you! I was trying to figure out how to open it for a switch replacement. Perfect!
Well done Dr. Gene, thanks for this. I won't hesitate to replace BOTH brushes when doing these. Glad you got yours working again too!
Thank you for taking the time to post this. Very informative
This helped me so much, thank you! I took everything apart but could not see why I couldn't remove the housing...when I saw that you were able to 'pop' it off I new it had to be stuck. And it was stuck with all kinds of dried up smoothie...I believe that is what I've been smelling...all over the housing and all in the motor. It seeped in through the drive socket and sides. What a mess! I'm going to get something I can spray into the motor to clean it. The brushes appear fine. Fingers crossed. Thanks so much!
Great video!
Excellent post. A real contribution!
Thanks
Great tutorial, well done, thank you!!
Nice work.
Thank you for your help!!
I'm going to try that. I called Vitamix co, they will charge for repair $95 plus shipping both ways. Or to buy a refurbished with shipping $189, 3 yr. Warranty.
Outstanding job, thanks for the lesson and the actual screen shot of the part. I will be buying the brushes for my spare parts kit.
Thank you for this video 👍
Egregious to watch you loosen that nut with not just pliers, but needle nose pliers! I think that brushes contract the "armature" of the motor. That being said, nice demo that showed me what's inside my venerable Vitamix. Fortunately, so far, I've had no need to to look inside. Now, why do you have 2 Vitamix's?? I am awaiting a blade assembly to replace my worn bearing. Don't buy the cheapest one, especially if its not OEM part. Thanks!
Thanks! I love the Vitamix. They are great machines.
great job, great video.
During disassembly you omitted one step, removing the drive socket. There is a bit of clear caulk over a hole, and an allen wrench screw on the drive socket. If you remove it that way the motor stays intact when you pull the case. This would avoid the issue of damaging the brushes when accessing the switches or other parts. By the way, the potentiometer or rheostat that you replaced previously could have been when the brush got first damaged. Potentiometers fail because they get dirty. CRC makes a spray called QD Electronics Cleaner. I took out my potentiometer flushed it with CRC through the knob hole Gap and the wires. It's a liquid so it gets inside the switch and eventually evaporates. This fix the potentiometer without removing it or replacing it.
Real good information!!
Thank you so much for the great video. I have had my vitamix for about 11 years, but the motor seems to cycle in its power when its on. So I'd like to repair rather than replace. I am hoping the broken items on mine either have a part number on them so i can look up the correct part...or I can find the part number in an IPB (illustrated parts book). thanks again.
Biggest help for reassembling is to separate the motor from the cover by removing the spinner on top with a 2mm Allen wrench. That way, the wiring can be fussed with easily before replacing the cover and not get pinched (pass all four wires through the slot at the front of the motor 'box').
To remove the spinner before removing the cover, align the arrow on the spinner with the small hole on the side. Then, you can loosen the 2mm Allen screw and the spinner slides right up and off. The motor is now separated from the top cover so when you lift it off, the motor stays with the base.
Also, there are three rubber strips that might fall off when removing the cover. They go over the lip of the base piece on both sides and the back. Just slide each in place over the edge somewhere close the middle.
Excellent tip! Thanks for sharing. You make it so easy
@@drgenejames Thanks for making this video! Yours was the first I watched, and it gave me the confidence to repair instead of just buy a new one.
Thank you
I guess Vitamix heard about people fixing their blenders and have stopped the brushes from being available to consumers.
Yes, it was bad for business
I am going to try this sure hope this works for me thanks😊
Looked on Amazon for this part, dosent come up
You're a cool dude. I'd hang out with you if you were in Dallas!
Awesome

aww thnx
Hi, Thanks for the informative video. I'm actually replacing the variable speed rheostat but the leads won't release with needle nose players and I'm concerned that I'll break them prying at them. Am I missing something?
They should pull right off!
Anyone using the word 'finagle' gets an upvote.
Thank you for the video.
My 5000 runs for a few seconds (5 sec) then turns off but it does not run long enough to get hot. Any thoughts❓
I bought new years back but used it now and then.
You may need to replace the brushes. Look inside and see what you find
Did you figure out if it was your brushes? I am having this exact same problem.
What motor does this blender use. Is it the 9520 or the 9525 motor?
Hi dr. James I am trying to purchase the brushes for my vitamin 5000 but no longer available on Amazon. Do you happen to have another source? Enjoyed your UA-cam presentation.

Hi dr. James unfortunately VitaMix was unable or unwilling to help I do understand the unit is old and a business can’t be expected to keep parts on-hand forever. But thanks again for your help. I appreciate it more than you know.
Very informative video, but when I opened it there was a loose heavy metal piece that fell out and can’t tell where it’s supposed to be adhered to. It’s gray with this “1.00 B 28” on it. Any idea what that could be? I don’t know where to put it.
Sorry! I don’t know
Great video. How is your vitamix holding up.
Is working great. We use it all the time
Do all vitamix uses the same brushes? I’m looking to get a kit for my creations ii and all I find is one set of brushes... thanks!
I am not sure but Vitamix customer service can help you with this
Thanks for the quick reply
My same exact Vitamix is smoking on high speed, do you think I need to replace the brushes? Thank you 😊
I am not sure about this one. Customer service will be able to help you with that.
That purple wire @3:28 looks damaged.
Where can I buy the brushes? I looked online but I wasn’t able to find anything

@@drgenejames thanks allot
Hello, please my vitamix stopped working. It shows some numbers but don't work. Unfortunately, I didn't insure it. Its a 3500i and I'm in uk. Any hope for me. I will appreciate it. Thank you
I don’t know. Contact Vitamix!
My vitamix says "no program" on screen every time I click 1-6buttons, how can i fix it.
I don't know!
Will the washing machine sound go away?
I don’t know.
Can changing the brushes effect the performance?
Itzik beja not really. They either work or not.
Bravo
How do you know it’s the brushes or the manual switch
I opened it up and looked for obvious things first. Loose wires, shifted parts, burned components are 90 percent of the obvious problems. You can easily check the switches with an ohmmeter, also.
@@drgenejames If you bought it used it was probably repaired and they messed up putting it back together. Otherwise it happened at the factory. I'm curious now if you bought it used or refurbished.
@@DougHNuts-ee3vn I bought it used. It worked for quite a while then went dead.
There is a very good reason they are sold in pairs. Once one goes out, you might as well replace the other. Glad you have your Vitamix working again. How long have you had it before you ran into this issue?
10 years
Unfortunately, you can’t buy the brushes anymore. They stopped selling them online. That’s too bad.
