    *I had one of these before and it lasted many years and I used it a lot. It blends **MyBest.Kitchen** chops ,grates. Does most anything you would want to use it for. A lot of bang for your buck. A litlle loud however it so fast it is not bothersome.*

    I wanted to say thank you just by taking my Vitamix apart and cleaning it up on the inside and cleaning the contacts and making sure they were suited well. Without having to buy a new potentiometer I was able to repair my Vitamix 5000

    Had an out of warranty blender sitting in storage for a year now, same speed control issue & unsure how to fix, found this video ... and it's fixed! Thank you! Watched the whole thing and thankfully my issue was near step one: the potentiometer! :)

    I cleaned the potentiometer with alcohol and a cotton swab, and reset the fingers, just as you did in the video. Now my Vitamix speeds are consistent again - no weird pulsing at the low speeds. Thank you!

    I had bought a replacement pot, and this video was helpful in guidance on how to take my Vitamix 5200 apart without damaging it. In the 5200, the pot is much smaller, and I was not able to take it apart without damaging it. I could put it back together with some glue I suppose. But the $20 replacement pot just gives me a lot more confidence. And the replacement pot looked just like the one in Tom's video.

    I have a Vitamix 6300 that I purchased from Costco about 9 years ago. Early last year, the Start/Stop button stopped working, so I have been using the pulse button. With the pulse button, you cannot use the variable speed dial while the blender is operating. It gets frustrating so I started using my Blendtec. I've already made inquiries to Vitamix and they did acknowledge that the product's warranty had expired. I was just wondering if it could be as simple as just replacing the Start/Stop switch? That would most likely be a whole lot cheaper than sending it to Vitamix for repairs, since I am on a fixed income right now.

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry to hear. Can you use the pulse button without switching the start button on? If yes, then it might be that the start button could be replaced, or even repaired. But if you need to use the start button before you can use the pulse button, the start button must be working and the problem is with the speed control, not making the motor run without the pulse button.

    • @rddav1
      @rddav1 2 роки тому

      @Tom Tech Hey Tom! Thx for replying to my comment. The pulse switch works without having to turn the start/stop switch on, so yes...it's probably the start/stop switch that is defective. I haven't taken it apart yet (laziness) so I haven't looked inside to see if the switch is burned out, loose, just need cleaning or whatever. My problem is I can't find a replacement switch for this model anywhere! No part number...nothing! But I guess my real question is...with the symptoms I described, is it a really good chance that it is the start/stop switch and nothing else?

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  2 роки тому +1

      @@rddav1 I would say it is about 50-50 chance the start/stop switch is defective. My model is quite different so I can not give exact advice. In my model if the potentiometer is broken it will run at hight speed. It is possible that in your model it will not run at all if the potentiometer is broken - I don't know. Obviously the motor is working so there are five remaining parts that might be broken: The start/stop switch, the potentiometer (if different from my model), the speed control electronics circuit board, the thermal fuse, or some wire has come loose. The thermal fuse in my blender sometimes goes off when I'm blending at low speed. This is because the fan will not blow enough cooling air to cool the speed control electronics. However, the fuse resets automatically when it cools down after maybe about 10 minutes. It is one possibility that your model has a broken thermal fuse. Check also if there is some fuse visible on the outside (bottom or back possibly) that you could reset by pressing. There is the over current fuse on my model you can press to reset. But if that one has blown the pulse switch won't work either. But your model might be different. Wires are always worth checking. It is not impossible that one wire connector has become loose due to vibrations. Unlikely but not impossible. Power switch can also be broken. Usually when they break you notice that they feel different or they rattle inside. But it is also possible they fail without any other signs. Good luck!
      -Tom

    • @rddav1
      @rddav1 2 роки тому

      @Tom Tech Thx Tom. It might not be the pot because where ever I set the speed on the variable speed dial, that's how fast it will go when I click and hold down the pulse switch. But what do I know?🤷🏿‍♂️ l'll just continue to use my Blendtec until I get enough money to send the blender to Vitamix. Best to let them take care of it. And again, Tom...thx!

      I'm not familiar with that model. Take it to a repair shop. These blenders are expensive and are worth repairing. And the warranty is 7 years, at least for my blender, so the repair might be under warranty.

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  2 роки тому +2

      If it runs full speed and the potentiometer does not change speed at all, there could be a connection problem. Check that the cable going to the potentiometer is properly connected and it does not seem to be broken. There might be a loose solder joint on the circuit board too. Or, in worst case a component on the circuit board is broken. If you have a multimeter the connection and potentiometer could be checked by measuring the resistance.

    I recently relocated to a 220V country and I would like to know your recommendation to modify the vitamix from 120V to 220V. My guess would be replacing the mother board.

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  3 роки тому +1

      I believe the motor also has to be replaced so this is not an easy task. There are transformers that can transform 220V to 120V. For this high power they are not cheap and they are bulky.

    Hi Tom thanks for you appreciated help.
    My vitamix starts and turn off in two seconds maximum.
    It could be the brushes or board or rotation speed sensor ?
    Please give light 💡.

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  4 роки тому +1

      I don't think there is a speed sensor unless you have an advanced model. It does not sound like brush problem either. Can the switch be broken? Does it try to start again if you tap the switch a little bit? My best guess however would be that some overheating protection kicks in very early. Replacing that protection might help in that case. But it is impossible to say without seeing and testing the device.

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  5 років тому +1

      Sounds serious. I would suspect worn out or broken carbon brushes. They are usually easy to check and replace. I'm not familiar with your model however. The problem might be something else too. I don't recommend fixing these yourself unless you are trained and experienced in electronics. Otherwise you may break it even more, burn your house down or get electrocuted. Take it to a repair shop and stay safe.

    Be extremely careful pulling the switch apart, I have to order a new switch anyway but am hoping to at least get it going until it arrives.....the little fingers came off their holding nubs, I'm having a heck of a time getting them back on. Everything is so small and dainty. Heed the warning, be extremely careful!
    I do question if my board could be bad too - before the blender became stuck at the highest variable speed, it was surging from time to time in variable speed mode.

    Old vitamix has a reverse spin option, but not the new one. Can you add reverse option to a new model?

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  3 роки тому

      Hi! Interesting question. Yes I think you can reverse the spinning direction. The motor is a brushed DC motor. By reversing the current by swapping wires around the motor should spin in the other direction. However, there is some angular displacement with the brushes to get an "advance" and optimize the efficiency. The torque will be much less in the reverse direction. The blender might even overheat much easier. Also, the blades are sharpened only to one direction, so they will not perform well in the reverse direction. - Tom

    Could you make a video about how to fix the pulse button??

    • @TomTechVideos
      @TomTechVideos  4 роки тому

      Sorry but I don't have a model with a pulse button so I can not show how to fix that. Or actually in my model the power switch is the pulse button if you just toggle it on and off quickly. With these high-power blenders you must be careful to first adjust the speed to a low settings because pulsing with high speed can damage the blade shaft. I believe, however, that there is a safety device that will "slip" if the acceleration is too high.

      Mine is a year 2013 model (so still under warranty I guess) but I guess anything that has a potentiometer can be fixed. The model of the potentiometer may vary. Some potentiometers are more difficult to open and clean than others. The only way to be sure is to open it. But remember that you risk breaking it even more or hurt yourself if you are not trained and experienced like me.
