It broke my heart having to sell my Mk4 TT, it was modded everywhere, it was perfect! But i hit a financial problem and was forced to sell, and i have regretted it ever since, nowdays that car would have been worth 120 grand easy!!! 😢
Mine was just amazing, I had the veilside full body kit that made it look beautiful all in white, the list of mods was extensive, just too much to list here, on the quarter mile I left a Lamborgini Diablo standing, he got a better start because I waffed it, but I passed him in a split second and left him in my dust at Santa Pod raceway. But hard times hit, and a Dutch race team had contacted me wanting the Supra, sooooo it got sold. I said I would never sell it, and I regret doing so every day since 😢
Financial hardship kept me from buying one. But now that I own one, I hit a tough milestone that I never thought possible. I will never sell this one. No amount of money will change that.
No one can deny. Growing up in the 90s was the best times. Cars, innovations, toys, games, ect. Nothing will ever beat the 90s especially not in these times or near future
Z and Supra, 2 japanese legends. Supra faster Z had the timeless looks. I owned a 90 ZXTT black on black leather loved that car. Kick my self for ever selling it like 3 bikes I sold yrs ago regret them also. Z was quick mildy modded bit the 2jz supra mild mods was a feaking beast and still lasted forever. Got a buddy who has one now pushing 700 or so hp boosted it to 700hp at 80k miles has 250k and still runs like a top, stock bottom end and internals. nasty lil bitch
I can’t believe you’re saying that with how great or amazing things are today. Yes, we don’t have great music or pop up headlamps. Games today are far better, as are engines, phones, etc. I was in my 20s in the 90s so for me the 80s was my sentimental time.
27:55 The part about how this subculture has bonded us is what resonates with me so much. This is what distinguishes a car enthusiast from a car driver. Many non car people might wonder why we feel so emotional about these 90’s Japanese cars but they’re more than just that. The Japanese sport car subculture always had a tuner scene. They’ve inspired creativity by making them easier to modify and when you get to work on your cars you bond more with not just the machine but the friends you make along the way who share the same passion. Even if you’re not mechanically inclined you’ve probably had friends in school whom you would discuss about you favorite cars in video games like Gran Turismo. You associate your memories with cars from of this era. When you go to a car meet, you see similar cars but underneath the hood everyone has something different and unique. This is something the electric cars would never have. There’s no creativity for different engines swaps, modifications and the potential to make friends you share the same passion with and goes through the process of painstakingly modifying a car. There’s no manual transmission that gives you the connection and joy of making a perfect heel toe downshift. They’re less about the driver and more about the car. The new Supra might not be a true Japanese sport car but it’s still one of the last sport cars you can buy that’s internal combustion and offers a manual transmission. It carries the name of one of the most iconic Japanese legends that we feel nostalgic about and has a significance in our lives. As everything starts moving towards electric vehicles, this is the end of an era. We like to look at the 90’s as the golden era of car culture but a lot of modern sport cars like the latest STI, GR86, Supra, Z etc are the closest modern cars we can have to that era and we need to celebrate it rather than only look at the 90’s with rose colored glasses because once EV become the standard, we won’t have this car scene anymore.

Same thing for me. She was resplendent all dressed in white and she captivated attention at red lights. It’s the most elegant sports car I’ve ever had and I have unforgettable memories of it. 😎

Bought a MKIV Turbo back 1999. Saved my life twice. Now pushes 900hp. It’s family now and the history and sentimental value is priceless. Excellent work on the video montage. Adjust the music down a bit more during narration but otherwise great work!
@@James_Wood_01 When music is too loud vs narration it gets on my nerves very quickly. But I didn't notice it once during this entire video. Not to say that's it's possible that the levels could be better (maybe? I don't know) but it certainly wasn't terrible. Congrats on the views for this video, it's well deserved!
Thank you! It depends on what device you are listening through. Through headphones and quality sound equipment, it was great. Then I watched it on my television and I realised what people were talking about. 😢 Thanks for commenting.
Your follower count is gonna rocket up if you keep delivering videos like this, well done! Watched the whole thing and enjoyed it! Loved how you traced the growth of the Supras evolution thru relevant cultural times. Just one thing, there are parts where the background noise from the videos are competing with your narration. Still though....fantastic work here!
Thanks that is a huge compliment. The squidd makes some pretty awesome videos. I stumbled across a video of his while finding B-roll for this video. He is a very talented story writer.
Enjoyed from beginning to end. I owned a 2022 CF Edition but was offered good money on mi turn-in and bought a 2023 C8 70 anniversary Convertible. Do I miss my Supra? You bet…but only have a 3 car garage!!! But I am alert for a Supra Hard Top convertible with high hopes….. Thanks again for this excellent video!!! Frank Puerto Rico
I'm Japanese, my father had a corporate career for Toyota for 17 years and I love the Supra, until the current. I dislike BMW, and though I understand how much it would have cost Toyota to produce a sports car, from the ground up, I just think there were better options than BMW Excellent video!
I agree! I personally would have thought they could use the LC500 or RCF platform. I personally would have been happy with Toyota's v6 twin turbo or literally any of their performance engines. Thank you, I really appreciate.
@@James_Wood_01 I mentioned the same LC500 platform idea to my father lol, back when the current Supra released. Apparently using that platform would have required a lot of modifying, which also would have had a high R&D pricetag and still wouldn't have been cost effective. Also the LC500 is half a ton heavier than the current Supra. Toyota does not like spending much to develop new vehicles, hence their 2023 4x4s on 13 year old platforms lol I'm not against partnerships, but Toyota was eager to cash in on the Supra badge and completely disregarded the fact that the name Supra is a Japanese cultural icon.
That's fair. I still would have bought one. The LFA platform would have been awesome, even if it was aluminium instead of carbon fibre. Obviously, it'd be too expensive for mass production, but we can dream 🥲 It does feel like they were eager to cash in on the Supra nameplate. My research tells me Toyota were selling their hydrogen technology to BMW conveniently at a similar time.

I owned a ma70 with a turbo-A engine for 9 years that made 490rwhp, and now im into a JZA80 of 8 years with a goal of 640rwhp for circit racing and street duties.. I simply don't know what driving life is like without having a supra. What a fantastic video, almost all supra videos have some kind of inaccurate information in them. This is the first video I have come across where I have not had to make a correction. Thank you for making this. It's a honour to be a part of the supra world. It would take more than tripple the goring rate for them for me to even consider letting mine go, I learnt my lesson once with my old one and I don't want to ever go through that again. 10/10
Wow, that is awesome! You are a true fan of the Supra. A lot of "fans" these days buy them for "clout." I learnt this saying recently, Haha. It takes commitment to own one nameplate for nearly 2 decades. Thank you for your comments, I really appreciate the praise. I have been a mechanic for a long time, and although I am appreciated for doing a good job, it is just sort of expected that I can do it. So when I get compliments, it is foreign, humbling and very much valued. Thank you!

That is undoubtedly the best Supra focused video I've ever seen in my long life as a car guy. My 89 7mge 5 speed has started more conversations in various parking lots than any other car I've ever had with people of all ages. It's still in great condition even with 189000 miles. Bought a 1jz twin turbo R half cut from Jarco right after I bought the car back in 2006 with the intention of doing the swap right away but just can't bring myself to do it yet. Your great video just may be the motivation this ol boy needed. Thank you sir !!

The mk3 Supra was my childhood dream car. When I was 18, there was one for sale for around $3000 where i lived. I didn’t buy it, and always regretted it. Last year a 1987 Supra was advertised for sale, and i didn’t hesitate. Had to pay 10 grand more for it than when i was 18, but finally my dream car is mine. Thanks for this great documentary!

I graduated college in 93 and remember when the new Supra was sitting on dealer lots. I even went to the dealer in Boulder to see them. They were pricey at the time. Anyhow, a short while later my boss bought one, non turbo without wing, and I was in love.

@@James_Wood_01 you know I never thought to ask. I’m sure he would have. It was gray without the wing which made the car look very different from the turbo. Anyhow, I wonder if he still has one. He had a ten year old GM wagon, dented and rusted, and then the new 93 Supra.
Awesome video! Over the years I've contemplated selling my MKIV, I've gotten ridiculously high offers despite saying it's not for sale (that I've turned down), even trades for some high end cars, but it's still here in my garage. My supra is the relic of my childhood ambitions and things I've endured to get one, so at this point it is priceless.
Thank you! I appreciate appreciate your story. My experience tells me all good cars have a story behind them. A lot of the time, it is personal. I have an old Holden Monaro, which I have owned for nearly 20 years now and I couldn't bare to sell her as she helped take my mind off a bad break-up and make new friends in the process of restoring it. Like your Supra, it's priceless.
@@James_Wood_01 Very much so! That is awesome, thank you for sharing. I'm familiar with the Monaro, but under a different name, the GTO here in the United States. Very fun car! I loved that car the day I laid my eyes on it and still love it all these years later. I will mention you did forget to mention one pivotal car that also brought on the production of the MK4, the sc300/Sourer.

The two best mk4 supras I've ever seen was in 96 when I was a kid and my neighbor had this sick silver one that was shxtting on Ducatis. The other was around 2003 at a dealership where my friend worked. It had a beautiful metallic really dark purplish color with hints of like green just amazing. All my buddies would meet over there after work and talk while just starring at it. I believe Jason Taylor of the dolphins ended up buying it. It was about 90 some thousand at the time, so I can't imagine what is pricetag is now.

I was too young to buy a Supra in the early 2000s and late 90s, I could only experience it in video games, movies, and videos. The MK5 Supra being present changed everything. Call it a BMW if you want, but Toyota swears by it and the tuning scene has proved it can more than live up to the performance heritage. And yet after a pandemic, I could not afford one. However, my BMW 340i is essentially as close as I can come to owning one. If I can one day, I'll get either a MK4 Supra or R35 GTR, or both.

Wow, thank you, that is a very touching comment. This is the first video in a long time and the first I have created in this style. I have been fixing cars (mechanic) and have gained an appreciation and respect for the cars, the people/companies behind them, their fans etc. This video allowed me to have a creative outlet as I enjoy learning more about history. The Supra was an easy car for me to base the video on as I am the proud owner of a mk4. I was a little scared to lay it out all on the table, afraid it was a bit much. But so far, it has been well received. The older I get the less I care what people think, I should have made this video year's ago. I feel humbled.

Ever since I saw the A70 in Shuto Kousoku Trial, I knew I wanted one. Then in 2022, I got one and have been enjoying it ever since (my wallet hasn’t been enjoying it lol). Great video and it’s good to see the A90 not getting bashed like it usually does. It’s the best case scenario to keep a classic sports car’s name alive when the car scene is not as big as it used to be.
I have a mk3 Japanese inport that I got in the late 90s. I just got my hands on a A90 with a spun engine. I have a 2JZ built engine to go in it. Just feels more real Toyota with it's moden look.

Absolutely wonderful video and a reminder why we have a Supra today. Very touching and very well documented. 👏. Glad to be a Proud owner of Mk5 Supra. ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed it. When I started making this video I couldn't accept the mk5 as a "true supra". But the more and more I researched, I realised what I thought wasn't really correct. Then I had a friend who bought one a month before I finished this video, and he is a die-hard fan. I found myself realising the only reasons I can't accept it are irrelevant! I now find myself looking at them on carsales and Facebook market place when they come up 🤣
@tartmedia4044 As a child, when I was growing up, I had some family members who owned the mk2 and especially mk3, which i loved in the early 90s. When the mk4 was popular 20 years ago, I could not afford it as I was only 21 years old. so I bought the nissan 300zx and kept that for 6 months. Always loved a Supra but was far from Affordability. Only 1 evening, just 2 months ago, I was only looking at the UA-cam videos on the mk5 with the Mrs and admiring the beauty which I've never ever noticed or seen closely. The following day, I contacted around 5 dealers and enquired about the Supra and was trying to get a decent px rate with my 2019 Type R. One dealer offered me a decent price, and we did the dealer. day 3 for the first time I saw the supra it in person and test drove it, signed the papers and bought it home. Best decision and totally love the car. The Supra means a lot , especially when I was growing up. I realised this now as I am a proud owner of GR Supra.
@@James_Wood_01 A BMW can never be a Toyota and without it being a Toyota the J29 is not a Supra. Don't gloss over the fact that the J29 is 99% BMW parts.
You have made a wonderful video on the Toyota Supra and I love it. I'll share it with my kids so they can understand this machine and why it's so loved by us people who loves a great build that Toyota has made❤

Loved this! Im a Yota enthusiast, currently on my second SW20 turbo, have a Tundra and a Sequoia. My mom owned a 82 and my dad an 87 NA. This new abomination that Toyota/BMW made is not a Supra sorry not sorry. They should have named it something else, i would have been all over it. Yes Im a purist
Japanese sports cars were always crafted in the image of their German counterparts, so rather than making another Japanese copy of a German car, someone got lazy and took the easy way out 😴 Personally, I am most upset there's no Supra convertible or at the very least, a Liberty Walk Supra body kit for the Z4 🎉

As a BMW-fanboy I really love the new SUPRA. This is the car we as BMW community are waiting for since the Z4 Coupe. And thanks to Toyota we have a very great creation back! Hopefully soon with the S58 engine and manual gearbox and a lot of CSL-parts this would be a real competitor for Porsche.

What a lot of people seem to be forgetting, in regards to the new Supra, is that Toyota had admired BMW's inline 6 engines for *years.* Out of all the inline 6 engine manufacturers in Europe, BMW is by far the technologically most advanced and popular one for a reason. They've earned the prestige and admiration over the course of +50 years of manufacturing performance six cylinders. The crazy hype around the 2JZ makes people forget that from the same era, BMW's S-series of engines, such as the S38 and S50 are no pushovers, having their own dedicated enthusiasts that have managed extreme builds and been keeping the aftermarket scene alive to this day... N/A or aftermarket turbocharged, these two are serious competitors to the 2JZ in terms of legacy, even if just being more prominent in Europe, rather than worldwide (which I believe is more due to the BMW cars not being featured in the same manner in pop culture market, like movies and so on). BMW and Toyota are a great partnership, with both learning something unique from one another. Hating on the new Supra simply for this partnership of two great titans, is silly. The new Supra isn't a rebadged Z4. The two cars feel completely different to drive. People need to learn to chill and not jump to conclusions, especially without having experienced these things themselves.
Thanks for commenting. It is an interesting perspective you have offered. You're right, BMW definitely have a parallel scene that is overshadowed in a lot of areas by the 2JZ's reputation, which in part would be excessively fueled by fame. I also agree that the BMW / Toyota partnership is a great idea. Especially when it comes to making technological leaps forward. I personally still feel Toyota could have done better with the Supra name plate, but that is just me. I think the collab should have yielded a new name plate, something people could get behind if they choose and may create a new legacy vehicle in the future.

Such a wonderful video. Well done. I owned a 1985 MK2 (metallic purple) and 1987 MK3 non turbo back in the mid to late 90s in high school, my cousin had a 78-79 Celica and brother had a 1989 MK3 turbo. I traded my MKII for a 1988 RX7 GXL, which I regret big time because the RX7 was as reliable as a crackhead with your debit card. Had the luxury of driving my friends MK4 black on black 93.5 TT 6Speed. He sold it and regretted it so much he bought a 96 green on tan automatic in 2002. This was before the crazy prices. You got a sub, and I made sure to have my notifications on. Keep'em coming.
Thank you, I really appreciate your comments. I laughed so hard at your crackhead comment, that my cup of tea went down the wrong way 😅. Thanks for the sub, I have started the next video, it'll be a couple of months. I am focusing on improving sound and storyline. This coming video should be better again. 🙂

Back in the 1980s, I lived in the Caribbean Commonwealth. I remember my father's friend. Being pestered by his wife for a Supra. She couldn't get the UK version because the engine capacity was too large, making the import taxes high. Therefore, it had to be imported from Japan, which means it was automatic, and she wanted a stck. ( As a fourteen year old, I thought... Just be happy for a new car!). I sent your video to my older brother, and he explained she was getting the Supra to keep her out if her husband's 2000 GT!!!!!!!!!! For decades, I had just assumed it was an E-type Jag. As a Mercedes S-type, it was his daily driver. I know that she had had the Supra for at least two decades. Sadly, I have not been back to the island since my parents died. A 2000 GT!
Wow what an amazing story. She probably should have just been happy with a supra haha. But with a 2000gt at stake, it makes sense. What a crazy story! Thankyou.for sharing that.
My next-door neighbor as a kid was a flight attendant, and her car was an orange BMW 2002 Turbo. She would hammer that car down our suburban street and do a j turn into her driveway. She would joke that the police in their Morris Oxfords and low spec Ford Granadas had zero chance of ensnaring her in a speed traps.

I said I would never sell it, and I regret doing so every day since 😢
Oh man, that would have been hard decision. My heart would too!
Financial hardship kept me from buying one. But now that I own one, I hit a tough milestone that I never thought possible. I will never sell this one. No amount of money will change that.

You ever heard of car storage, basically abandon your car until you can get back on your feet without selling it.
You forgot the anime and cartoons too. Saturday morning cartoons were king
dragon ball Z 🔥 hell yeah!
No 80s best for movies and TV and 60s for cars , no computers in them
I can’t believe you’re saying that with how great or amazing things are today.
Nicely said! 😊

Bought a MKIV Turbo back 1999. Saved my life twice. Now pushes 900hp. It’s family now and the history and sentimental value is priceless.
Excellent work on the video montage. Adjust the music down a bit more during narration but otherwise great work!
So cool!
Thanks for the feedback on the volume. I will be paying more attention to the audio on next video. Thanks 😊
@Rythyms what do you mean saved your life 2x?
@RogueVigilante he/she was drowning and the supra pulled them out and gave them CPR? TWICE...!😮

I'm Japanese, my father had a corporate career for Toyota for 17 years and I love the Supra, until the current. I dislike BMW, and though I understand how much it would have cost Toyota to produce a sports car, from the ground up, I just think there were better options than BMW
Excellent video!
Toyota does not like spending much to develop new vehicles, hence their 2023 4x4s on 13 year old platforms lol
I'm not against partnerships, but Toyota was eager to cash in on the Supra badge and completely disregarded the fact that the name Supra is a Japanese cultural icon.
That's fair. I still would have bought one.
The LFA platform would have been awesome, even if it was aluminium instead of carbon fibre. Obviously, it'd be too expensive for mass production, but we can dream 🥲
It does feel like they were eager to cash in on the Supra nameplate.

Being able to channel our energy into cars during tough times is a virtue, many turn to other vices sadly, even though our outlet can drain the wallet if we aren't careful! lol

Well put together video! Got the heart pumping up at times!
Thanks Ash. Appreciate the feedback.

Decent video. I wish more credit was given to those OG MKIV Supra owners and shops in the 90s from the US who made the 2jzgte platform the Legend we all know. Thats the only reason that Fast and The Furious chose it as the hero car.
And we will never accept the BMW in our legacy.
Interesting, I will look into that. Thanks for the feedback.
They chose it because of Craig Lieberman. They didn't know what a 2jz or a supra was at all.

Thats a great story, I'm glad you got your Supra, you must feel proud.
@@James_Wood_01 I'm a happy man

Thankyou! And totally get it.

@@James_Wood_01 The LFA you say? I'm watching that immediately!

What a lot of people seem to be forgetting, in regards to the new Supra, is that Toyota had admired BMW's inline 6 engines for *years.*
Out of all the inline 6 engine manufacturers in Europe, BMW is by far the technologically most advanced and popular one for a reason.
