- It's time to go into the desert... alone...Tunisia Desert Challenge
This is part 2 of a three part series showing you the real behind the scenes of one of the toughest races out there. I’ve entered the full rally raid class, so up there riding with the pros, and it’s a full on 8 day moving bivouac race.
This video is the first day into the desert, day 2 and 3 of 8 days riding. My nerves are really high, the riding intensity goes up as we hit the dunes. With some extreme terrain, described as as the hardest day's riding they've ever done by a 10x Dakar finisher... day three is a tough day. I push on but just don't have the strength. 16 motorcycles and a total of 30 vehicles were rescued. Check out my campfire in the desert.... also had a 4.5 hour ride in an 18 wheeler MAN sweeper truck being rescued. Getting back to the bivouac at 3.50 aim it’s ends with the unknown as to whether I will be continuing.
Make sure you check out part 1 an 3 of this Tunisia Desert Challenge series.
Part 1: • Harder than the Dakar!...
Part 3: • Nearly killed by extre...

More information:
I’m riding the Beta 480 RR for the Tunisia Desert Challenge. I'm upped my game and did the full rally raid category so a 250km fuel range, full navigation tower, Michelin race rubber and tricked up Ktech suspension is just part in the build. I'm road with Desert Road Racing as my bike support, rally mechanics and all round knowledge pool as I take my rally riding to the next level. This was a BIG rally.

A unique vlog. Any illusion I ever held that I was capable of such things are banished from my bucket list. Bravo Madame!
You are an incredibly brave and courageous women. You're persistence and resolve are admirable and inspirational and I can't say enough how much I respect you. Be proud because it is deserved!
Riding should be fun but that looked like misery.
I was in a similar situation (but to a much much lesser degree) when running north on my own in my 4x4 following the Budapest to Bamako 2022 rally. You, ma'am, have the nerves and the strength that would give solid steel a good name. And thank you SO MUCH for sharing the experience exactly as it was. You are amazing and I look forward to following along with more of your adventures.
Endurance racing on a bike takes incredible stamina.
You need to be able to do an Ironman event where you run a 26+ mile marathon, swim 2 miles in the ocean, and ride a pedal bike 100 miles.
Good on you for trying!
The recovery vehicle looks like a boat rolling on an ocean of sand.
You're a real trooper, brutal track, get stuck, break down, but you built a fire and fortunately the rescue truck arrives. You got guts, can't wait to see part 3!
Just watched from start please don’t beat yourself up you’ve entered into the hardest event ever I wouldn’t worry about racing just finish safe and sound.. you may not realise but your doing well riding the desert on a bike is the hardest way even the top men struggled.. proud of ya chic…..
Everyone needs to know there limitations. If I can't swim then I stay out of the pool 😂There is a lot of excitement for these types of events but there hard and tough to compete. I've often thought about Dakar but that's too costly and I would probably punish myself. I suppose we all need to start somewhere.
Words cannot express my concern for you, even knowing that you’re home, relaxing in your garden, it was definitely a very challenging night that you endured! You are very tough and did the right things to make it through the night. Anxiously awaiting the next episode! Take care Vanessa!
This couldn’t been a 10 part series it’s so good.
Woe thanks Ryan that means a lot. Thank you
I can't say how much I respect and admire you. You are so inspirational, some days my pain stops me from riding but watching you inspires me to keep going. Thank you
19:51 __ Vanessa 🙏 you brave and still safe and fine in this conditions.. Cool 👍
Massive, massive props to you, Vanessa!
What a... What a... I don't know. You are a constant inspiration. Slightly, subtly, lightly mad sometimes, I would say (in the most respectful and positive meaning). But you are a natural force. You rock girl ✌️
Incredible challenge, talent and perseverance; the courage to share your struggles is inspiring👍
Thanks Paul. Stay tuned for part 3!
Very cool to get a sense of the hardships in the dunes... glad to hear you were resued and can keep going!
One simple word V..... LEGEND. 👏👏
PS: whoa, that was some rescue truck. 👍
I can’t express enough the respect, admiration and pride I feel for you young lady, you are an absolute warrior and should be so proud of your achievements, can’t wait to see the last episode!
It’s just makes you tougher to do it again Makes you Stronger too 👊🏾👊🏾
Don’t apologise! Life isn’t all strawberries and cream, and we learn most in our lowest points. Bloody well done. I’d had been a bleached skeleton for sure.
That was really intense. You can be so proud of how you handled that entire situation. The rescue truck looks like an absolute beast of a machine. It must have been fun riding in it. I can't wait for the next episode. You are such an inspiration Vanessa.
This was quite the epic dig deep mission. You are quite the warrior Vanessa. Thanks for posting warts and all it gives a very personal and realistic view of the hardships of Rally Raid. Not for the faint of heart and you have plenty of that. Andy and his wingman in the monster rescue truck are legends.
Aw that is lovely to hear, thank you so much, mega appreciate your kind words and support, thanks for watching!
@@TheGirlOnABike I have been loving the off road/rally raid tutorial type videos, very interesting, having not ridden off road it is a whole new part to riding. Ride safe
Fantastic video Vanessa, can’t imagine being stuck out there not knowing when you’re getting rescued well done
Wow Vanessa how intense was that I just hate seeing a lady cry and in distress, but you came through it and that old adage what doesn't kill you makes you stronger rings true. Just hope I can cope with all the suspense of the next episode. Thank you...
Best video you’ve done Vanessa. Nice to see the real you.
Brutal ride! Restec p 👊🏼
Vanessa in my final comment i observe you back to base on foots never lost control on mental health specking power and video making so medals on your shoulder 🏅
Hey Vanessa, you are doing fine. We have in Australia an all women's Simpson Desert challenge which the gals say test their resolve but all come away with achievement and personal growth. Heaps of offs, prickles, punctures, motorcycle breakdowns and most of all smiles.
It's a horrible feeling when you feel like you've let yourself down...
Omg, I cried when the truck came...
So scary. Good on you for not completely losing it. 😊
Aw you are very sweet, it was an intense moment thats for sure!
You did incredibly well and … top marks for your enduro mascara 😮
Oh lol thank you!
I'm have way through this vid and I think your AWESOME for even attempting this .......glad your back and safe....xxx
All I can say. Is awesome. And well done to you.
You did a great job. Loved watching the video.
This must be one hard challenge that you have taken on. And you just smashed it..
👍👍😘❤️
I'm in ore of you your amazing. Iv just bought my 1st bike at 55 and want to ride around Europe on it tiger 850 sport. Love watching all your exploits and tip my hat to everything you do. Keep it up and keep sharing your stuff. 👏👏👏👏
You’re an inspiration. That was a hard watch but you should be very proud of yourself.
You rock! Enough said! What a fantastic organization as well. So cool.
That truck is awesome!!
Appreciate you constantly stopping and updating. Your a legend and a inspiration. 👍🏻👍🏻🇮🇪 Some machine they use for recovery... Wow
What a girl. Much respect. Another great video.
Thanks lovely. Super appreciate that
I have read Charley Boorman, and Joey Evans and they all talk about their parallel dimensions of desert isolation in the event of catastrophes. The support systems become question in the memory of world without the rider if they don't show up. The rider is then in time pondering life usually without essential support. I look forward to watching and glad they made the retrieval🦾.
I've done long solo trips on tarmac, I don't think I'll ever ride solo across the desert like these competitors. Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere for potentially days sounds frightening.
Strong stuff those fishermansfriend. Stop talking youreself down Vanessa you did a hell of a job. Not everyone can do everything. If you want to ride this type of rally’s you will be maximum prepared for next year. You gave it your best shot, stop Beijing so hard on yourself. Stap in here ruckymonster. Lots of respect wish you a successful recovery.👍👍🇳🇱
My hat is off for you. Doing dunes on a bike is no joke and the heat will suck the life out of you. I wish I had the guts you do. 👍
Kinda just found your channel. So I'm catching up. Love how candid you are describing your " experience " Been watching Itchy Boots for several years now. Complete different type of viewing. As much as I love Norely, I don't think she has peed in last 4 yrs.... lol. I'm subscribed and thanks.
😅 wooo, welcome aboard! Thanks for subscribing, I hope you are enjoying the videos!
Respect Vanessa and thank you for sharing as I plan my first rally at the Hellas next year … I’m under no illusion as to their difficulty and am training now to get the timber off and get fitter . So thank you again for sharing . Respect good lady
You are welcome, thanks for watching, I hope it helped! And all the best for Hellas wooo! 💪
That's a pretty intense situation 😨what a fighter you are Vanessa 💪
Goodness what an emotional roller coaster. Your survival skills came through and what a truck!!! Quicker than the RAC too. 😂
Great organisation. Well done ending with being ready for tomorrow.
Off to see number 3. I'm late to this party.
Oh yea it sure was! Thank you so much, i am glad you are enjoying it and thanks for watching woo!
You stayed fairly cool while not being mobile in / on the dunes, talking to your phone & camera.
I thought you might have shown one of the massive desert spiders but they might not inhabit that area.
Now to wait for the conclusion of your adventure.
Also cannot wait to see what else you have planned Vanessa.
Sometimes a win is just turning up.
Thanks Vanessa for the honest vid, showing the reality of racing in the desert. This is tough stuff so struggling is nothing to be ashamed of. Thanks so much for bringing us this epic adventure. cheers Andy
Your awesome well done
I can’t wait to watch all of it in one go and follow the action it must amazing to be there competing… and I wish you a big good luck from me 👍👍
Link at the end goes to part 1, we holding our breaths here! Super good job on the rally so far and with the videos, tough as hell! Thank you for keeping it real!
oh yeah hehe part 2 coming next week
After watching this video I must say you are amazing, I struggle to get through a day and it's nowhere as hard as what you put yourself through. Wether it's man handling that Pan American or that Rallye bike through the dunes, your determination is brilliant. And to go from down to ready to carry on is inspiring. Wish I had got half of your will and get up and go. Keep doing what you do, one day it might help me 🤞👍
Huge respect to this.
Gutsy move! Big respect!
That was a hard watch! I hope all ended up ok in the end.
Wow! Incredible journey both physical and mental. Well done!
Outstanding effort Vanessa, I feel very proud of you, that was hardcore ✊🤟
They say to draw a line around where you’re sleeping in the desert to help avoid scorpions.
Hmm interesting
@@TheGirlOnABike Old Bedouin trick apparently, or so I’ve heard
Astonishing truck, straight out of Thunderbirds.
Haha definitely
This was one of the coolest moto vids I’ve seen on YT in a long time. You’re a legend and it’s very impressive what you’ve accomplished. Don’t be so hard on yourself, you did well and your riding skills were great.
Oh wow thanks Ryan. I wish more people could watch it as I think it’s my favourite video I’ve done too, although possibly not at the time 😆 lol
I really appreciate the honesty of your vids .
that truck Want want want
Haha me too! Or at least another go in one but minus the rescue middle of the night part 😂 Aw thank you 🙏
Great video, as i was a participant of that rally myself (navigator in a 4x4) It is really great too see inside video's like these that show the story behind it all. Huge respect to you and the other bikers and off course the sweeper guys. Next year morocco?
Just awesome and such an experience.
28:32 rescue truck... thanks not ambulance ✌️
This is by far the most badass video on youtube. Best documentary I've seen in a long time too.
Gosh. Thank you. It really was the raw honest experience with me
😍✌ keep smashing it
I know this is a year old but you should be proud of yourself if you had paniced and tried to walk out you probably would not be here to your credit you did not panic you did not walk off and try and find your way out you stayed with the bike and did all you could using what you had, you are Strong and brave.🤩
Thank you ❤️
great video
Thanks!
I know you're disappointed but I'm glad you are OK.
Your doing great
Aw thank you
Wow, keeping it real is an understatement, that's scary out there in the dark with nothing but sand as a point of reference. So glad you're safe 🙏🏽 enjoying the series
Yeah it was terrifying but I had to keep calm. I've had many nightmares since!
@@TheGirlOnABike you're in my prayers 🙏🏽 question; I remember you mentioned the type of motorcycle pants you wear on one of video, would you be so kind to sent me the link. Be safe 🙏🏽

awesome job way to go
Aw thanks buddy
Wow that was just brutal, I rode across New Mexico here in the USA and thought that was tough and it was nothing compared to what you were going through. Amazing
Aw thanks Ben. It really was a tough one. So proud to have finished!
Hey Girl-Nice work.
What kind of molded ear-pieces are those.?
Best wishes Sis.
I am so sorry for the slow reply. They are Custom Fit Guards. My friend referral code will get you 10% off too GIRLONABIKE
Damn, that looks like some brutal riding!
Oh yup it was intense!
@@TheGirlOnABike You are positively BAD-ASS! Keep being awesome🤘🏻 😖🤘🏻
This is good content; really good content.
Aw Yey. Thank you. It was a tough one
mega respect
I am not sure how this does not have 1M views. Great content, as real as it gets! You are incredibly brave and thanks for sharing!
Aw thank you. It’s a shame it’s not managed to be seen much. I guess youtube didn’t like it lol. Thanks so much for the kind feedback. It was definitely tough
Wow Vanessa, courage of a Lion , outstanding achievement , a truly inspiring character you have , thank you for sharing you honest open emotions too 🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼
Aww that is so lovely of you to say, thank you! I am only human too so i like to show all sides of life not just the good, appreciate your support ❤️
Okay, now I am in a conflict with myself, that video airs smack bang at the same time as the next Itchy Boots one! Waah!!1! 🥴
Itchy is today, this video tommorow.
@@ride4life_motorlifestyle My head hit the desk as you mentioned it… 🥴 I guess I have some kind of non-traveling jet lag.
Respect..
Thank you! This is your best ever video! Congratulations! Absolutely brilliant!
Oh wow. Thank you
Goodness! 🥴 Has any electricity company ever mentioned they would like to tap some of the energy of your pre-race tension? You are way too focussed, dear Vanessa. Watch some Monty Python's Flying Circus episodes before the start! You need to be confused a bit! 🥳
Meh. I'll just dump everything I think and suggestions that pop into the back of my head what might help when next trying such a madly exhausting thing and say just how glad I am you got out off this mess without any more severe issues.
I'll just do the Wayne's World-Notworthy thing in your general direction! 🤗
And yes, these trucks are absolutely stunning beasts. I served with the THW, German disaster relief organisation. My lot had one of them. I don't know if there's any kind of terrain these buggers can't drive over (Except for sky scraper facades, maybe.)
With that many riders stuck, its a bit surprising the organisers set the route through such difficult terrain. It must cost a lot in fuel etc. Will they think twice about this sort of thing next year maybe? ( Is this every year? I want to enter!)
Yeah so true. The rumour is the event won’t run again, partly due to how tough it was. Lol
i recko these Rescue Truck Drivers did some Rallys in their time. Amazing how you can drive a bigass Truck in that Environment!
Yeah definitely! Their skill was bonkers 💪💪
Tip from a mtb rider for your energy gel use. Whenever you take a gel ALWAYS have a mouthful of water or you can increase the carb concentration in your stomach to a point the you slow down the water absorbation. In the heat drink on every 10 min mark religeously.
💪
Wow. Enough said
Keep going strong girl.
You're not average.
Be proud of what u accomplished
I sure am!
Thanks for the content and being who u are
Has there been a glitch in the system? I’ve watched parts 1 and 2 already in full but I’m now thinking that it shouldn’t have let me!!
haha I think maybe you did, I'm not sure what happened but I hope you enjoyed! that was brutal haha
brave!
Yup, i had no other choice, i wasnt going to give up thats for sure!
Its awl awesthome,you,the bike,trucks,people,place,race,be careful out there,allez vittes,toutes suite!!!!
Everyone will hate me, but the truth is it is time to go back and learn to ride, and do it step-by-step. This learning curve is just too steep. Stay safe.
Not all heroes wear capes. You're a brave woman Vanessa 😊
Aw wow, thank you!
I can't get myself to hit "Like" on this one, but I'm proud of your fighting abilities and awfully glad we still have you around. You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of!
Give me one jocket plzzz help
you're my hero!
Aw that is super sweet
Drive 2 stroke
