The sound of that engine at full chat is enough to make a grown man weep. It's so beautiful that it actually causes the heart to ache with longing. There can never be another.
Stunning by any measure. Perfect stance. A shrieking werewolf in an Armani suit. The engine, in architecture, execution and sound is a modern masterpiece. Well researched doc.
Saw one in person. I’ve always been skeptical about LFA when it first came out. I always say there’s no way it could be leveled with the likes of Ferraris or Lambos. But when I saw one, it looks amazing, sounds great (addictive actually) and since it’s Toyota, expect it to be more reliable than most supercars.
The reliability should also be in the parameters to be 'super'. Anyone can slap a 2k bhp honda engine and rev it to speed. But doing it in style and do it repeatedly so should be the norm for the 'super' car. 😊
Clarkson, Cammisa, Harris, and now THE SQUIDD. So nice seeing the torch passed to a generation of absolute car lovers and most importantly, documentarian.
@@mr2loverboy well, he did mention bout the car in a 2000GT video and got the car to drag race with a Mclaren 12C, but that's about it. I'd assume he made a review video on it since his time at ISSIMI, but then that video would have already popped off by now.
Clarkson was a bafoon though. He didn't care whether what he said was right or wrong, it was just for attention. He also changed his mind about things regularly and would go from praise to ridicule in a few years.
Akio Toyoda, Hiromu Naruse, etc. All those involved on the LFA project did/do not get enough credit for the LFA. It may not go a billion miles an hour like a hypercar, but the experience that is the LFA will be eternally phenomenal.
I'm so happy to have people learn these names. Cars are nothing without the people that made them. That is my ultimate goal here. To teach people about names, not horsepower.
Akio Toyoda and Hiromu Naruse are both like John Wick; They are men of FOCUS, COMMITMENT, sheer F*CKING WILL!!!... They call him (Naruse): 'Morizo'... The master driver; the man you send to tame the Boogeyman of the Green Hell! They gave him an impossible task: Make the greatest car Japan had ever laid eyes upon... A task no one could accomplish. But he did... The money and resources he burned through over the course of a decade laid the foundation of what GR/Gazoo Racing is today... And now, GR is coming for our wallets... And I myself am glad they are selling such magnificent cars... They will take our money. We. Will. Be. Satified. With. Our. Purchase. No compromise
You writing protectivly on a car designed and created only for certain humans and not for eveyone that desires it... writing about the experience of experiencing it... I fellow human doubt you. You have never driven or owned a luxury car yet you defend people that make such unfair egoistics. Those are privileged little penis mizanpussies.
What do you mean when you say they don't get enough credit? They get all the credit. They get mentioned in practically every LFA video, write-up, etc. What other car gets such a high percentage of its exposure attached to the names of its creators?
Whats cool about the LFA is that every IS, RC, and even the LC that came after it now has LFA blood in it's design language. The shifting digital instrument cluster lives on in these cars and I'm excited to see what will come next from the new LF-R

I finally saw one in real life a few months ago at a car show and man let me tell you that car stole the show. I felt so privileged to be in the presence of such a masterpiece. It looked and sounded amazing
Lexus of Woodland Hills in Los Angeles, had one on their showroom floor, ohh 7 or years ago when I bought a used car from them. It was black and it was magnificent!
I own a 68 2000GT MF10, US model. I paid $42k USD for it in the early 90s, in excellent condition with just over 7000 miles on it. Best thing Yamaha has ever done! Now I need to add an LFA to my collection!

LFA is not just another supercar, it's a piece of art, emotionally connected to those who involved; and the name LFA will be remembered not as an industrial product, but a legend.
I'll be completely candid in saying that this was one of the many documentaries that made me fall in love with not only the LFA, but lexus as a brand. The LFA was a passion project, plain and simple. Those lucky enough to own one know exactly why they're getting it. It's sad that it fell on mostly deaf ears when it finally came out but at the end of the day, we still got the LFA.
Correct. It won't be the only creation that "fell on mostly deaf ears", take Rembrandt and Picasso paintings at the time they were still fresh, they did not exactly fetch even close to the prices they fetch now. Out of all the supercars, the LFA is and always will be the one I want to drive. Ever since watching that episode of Top Gear. Even if Jeremy did dog on it a bit, it still seemed like perfection through passion. LFA is a dream. Thankyou squid for this video, you always make me emotional for the storytelling you give of my favorite vehicles.
I find the whole story quite dark, considering the wake turbulence of that extremist pet project driven by desire of one man and the eventual fatal blunder *outside* of a race track, i.e. highly irresponsible driving, probably drunk on ego. Where excellence and aiming for perfection doesn't serve the common well-being, it is unbalanced, not adding something truly from the heart, but a spiritual con like Musk's technocratic space escapism adventures.
You feel bad about a guy who drove way past the speed limit and into oncoming traffic? Even the most dedicated race drivers have to obey the road laws of a country. There hasn't been a documentary on the LFA that didn't bring a tear to my eye- but this one bought more than one! The LFA isn't a car- its a living extension of the bodies and souls of everyone who built it. No wonder it sounds so ALIVE!
What an absolute emotional roller coaster this was. I absolutely love Lexus, and obviously Toyota and this video reinforced that even more. I simply cannot put into words how well-made this video was, and I can only imagine the amount of effort and time you invested in this masterpiece. Thank you for this video and all other videos. The LFA is truly an amazing part, also, I’m amazed it only took one day to make it.
For a company that can make tens of thousands of cars in a single day, them making one LFA a day was a snails pace. Thanks for watching friend, glad you enjoyed it, and I am glad you didn't pay a dime for it too!
I have a new found respect for the LFA now. I always liked the car, being fast, nice to look at and the Top Gear episode where JC says it's one of his favourite cars of all time. But truly realising the story of the LFA brings new enjoyment out of it. The perseverance to make it perfect is inspiring. I love cars.
Hearing the story of how three men pushed engineering to it's limit all the while imparting their human qualities into it is beautfiul. In a time where cars are becoming more and more "by the book" its brilliant to learn that some still want to build cars that make you feel something.
ser, im in tears. you brought honor to the ones who created the LFA. an omage that will echo their names in etertinity almost as sublime as the sound of the LFA.
I remember on around 2015-ish seeing LFA cost just below 200'000. Knowing how light it is, the V10, I knew it would skyrocket in price as the car wasn't yet appreciated for what it was. Long and behold, in 2023 the LFA is starting at 900'000. No doubt the price will keep climbing.

Might've been a financial failure, but the LFA is the reason Lexus is taken seriously as a brand today, while Acura and Infiniti are still seen as cheap brands.
Works out for those who understand cars though. Many people, especially in European countries, laughs at those brands while their own "luxury cars" break down a lot.
I have to the story of the LFA had been told many of times over last decade. But it never felt as vivid or as passionate as this video. The pure the pursuit of greatness with no compromises and against all odds. I can really feel the emotion of the people behind the LFA. This video is art and so is the LFA.

LFA just lacked numbers. Single-clutch gearbox was slow and it wasn't anywhere near fastest accelerating cars. That fast-revving engine, digital tachometer and F1 sound were marketing BS, the car wasn't that fast overall, it was underwhelming for its very high price ($400K iirc), so people got lambos and gt-r's instead.

I have already commented on how much i truly love your work. This time i'm here with a little revision: Nicola Materazzi was not the father of the EB110, he engineered the Bugatti Edonis, the successor of the EB110. On the subject of the EB110, i had the chance, honor and privilege, to meet my fellow colleague Materazzi in Modena, a few years ago. We spoke at length about, you guessed it, cars While speaking about the EB110, he referred to the use of 4 turbos, with a LEGENDARY quote that he has also repeated in some interviews "By using 4, i repeat 4, turbos, they made complicated what was previously easy, by going through the useless" He passed away a few months ago, and after him, also went another italian Legend, Mauro Forghieri, Rest In (Horse)Power to both legends
This is one of the best youtube videos I have ever watched. I learnt so much about the LFA in this video. The writing and music were well done and flowed well throughout the entire video.
Dear Squidd, I hope the iconic 3 presenters get to see what they've inspired. And how inspired it is. Your automotive storytelling is second to none. As you are clearly inspired by these stories, while the inspiration of those three may have given you the drive to become a content creator, you are wholly and completely original. If I’m 100% honest, the reason that I personally love racing games and sought after cars so vividly was the LFA, which I’d seen first in Need for speed:Most Wanted(2012) was just an insane beauty
I remember watching NFS the run trailers and let's plays with the LFA and I always wanted one. Here in Argentina there's only one LFA for exhibition in a Toyota dealership. Truly a magnum opus of a car.
I don't remember when, but one day I realized this is my ultimate dream car, not because it is an underdog, not because it is funky and japanese, not because it is a very fast car. No, this is my dream car because it is 'ultimate' in every sense of the word. They made the ultimate car, and that's why it is my absolute automotive hero, this car.
I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY I FOUND THIS CHANNEL. No joke this is my favorite car of all time, and will continue to be my favorite. This video finally did it justice. Straight up shed a tear watching this masterpiece of film.

Yeah not really worried about subs or numbers, just as I’m not worried about horsepower and quarter mile times. Numbers are boring. I like to speak on emotions.
I will never forget the first time I saw this car. Immediately falling in love with not just the visual aspect, but the overall presence and sound of the car itself. I’d already fallen in love with the 2nd Gen GS400, the ISF and now seeing Toyota/Lexus follow up with the LFA… I knew from that day forward I would own every single car that carried the F badge. I just got an ISF, working on an RCF and will be getting a GSF soon after that. I will have an LFA.
These videos are amazing, it makes me feel all the feels and lights my passion for cars brighter every time. If you ever feel pressured to make a video don't because we will all gladly wait for whatever you end up making.
I am a very stubborn baby and work at my own pace, I never cave to pressure haha. I'm glad you feel that way watching these, as I feel that way making them.
I find crazy that machine they build to weave carbon fiber from scratch, with no previous experience with the material. Really inspiring work from toyota. Really inspiring work from The Squidd as well, making these banger videos.
Watched the F1 video yesterday, this one today. Still highly impressed with your quality. Just like these super cars, take your time, effort and passion into something you’re proud of, instead of a plethora of quickly spat out junk. Again, thank you.
Isn't it incredible how in pursuit of the Next Big Thing so many times, Japan managed to essentially revolutionise certain processes and elements of a car for the entire automobile industry? The sound of that engine at full chat is enough to make a grown man weep. It's so beautiful that it actually causes the heart to ache with longing. There can never be another.
I LOVE Clarkson's analogy of the sound it makes. Really is like a sad animal, and yet so beautiful.
Stunning by any measure. Perfect stance. A shrieking werewolf in an Armani suit. The engine, in architecture, execution and sound is a modern masterpiece. Well researched doc.

when i want to let out pent up stress i play videos of LFA's just going all out, i even cry just thinking of the LFA's v10
This comment gave me goosebumps.
Why is Jason Cammisa not on this list?
@@mr2loverboy well, he did mention bout the car in a 2000GT video and got the car to drag race with a Mclaren 12C, but that's about it. I'd assume he made a review video on it since his time at ISSIMI, but then that video would have already popped off by now.

The LFA was the last breath of 80s Japanese Car culture. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.

I've watched "milions" of documentaries... but this one... well it just takes it to another level.
Just like the LFA. It is made with time, passion and effort. Full stop !
Glad you liked it!
Man, when is Squidd going to be hired by Netflix? His videos are pure documentary quality.
Never. I'd hate for you to have to pay someone to watch my content.
Now, this is why we follow you. 🔥😎
🙌
Every time Squidd posts...and my favorite car of all time!
Possibly one of the best videos I have seen on this wilderness called UA-cam (car related or otherwise). Can’t thank you enough for sharing this!!
Wow, thank you!
The LFA is my favorite supercar by far. Beautiful, high revving and that sound... In short: a symphony of excellence.
I don't have words to explain how special your videos are. It is a masterpiece. All my friends already subbscribed to you. I really wish the best in UA-cam!
Thank you so much 😀
What i love about this channel is the way they give depth to the story they're telling.. good work!
