I played one in the 80s. Loved it. Even unmic'd it was very loud and kept up with my drummer who was very loud as well. In fact, my drummer owned the amp, I didn't. But I loved playing through it. The clarity was amazing. Most amps I'd played through at the time were just too muddy for the sort of distortion I was going for, something a cross between Maiden and Rush. At the time both bands were using GKs. Amps like this, the Randall RG 75 I owned, Crates and Pierce made me a solid-state believer decades ago. Solid state has come a very long way since then. I wish GK would bring this amp back. I know it would be a massive success.
Great video! Would be awesome if you could make a preset matching the 200ML with the Fractal. The chorus echo preamp etc. I think Maiden might have ran a tube screamer through it.
LIKE 3 is MINE 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 It's a classic !!! Meaning... GK 250 ml + AXE FX covers a wide range of options... it's so nice 👍🏽 you've done a video of it !!!! Cheers Mate
Sounds incredible... I have 2 250MLs, cant get enough of this sound. Good idea to try it with an Audio interface and some different impulse response, must try this, too.
Still have 2 of the 250rls and my jcm800 stereo cabs With and old (new then) Boss od-1 and Digitech, DSP 128 There was nothing thin about it The 4x12s thumped the stage I’ve had many compliments and questions since the sound was so nice and every note could be heard Everyone used them here on the east coast on the cover band circuit (Gregg Howe comes to mind since he was a local I saw him quite a bit at local guitar shops) We opened for Fuel during an east coast leg and the Mesa dial caliber was my backup for the GK They are consistent heads Lightweight, stereo But you will lose dirty rhythm in a live mix if the tech isn’t familiar with anything but tube amps So add a sm57 and he will be fader riding all night But add a di to the snake and all is cool I have everything from plexis, jcm800/900 (with custom tiger skin tolex), DSL, JVM410 Boogie DC3, rectos, JP2C and some fenders, vox, Roland Also AxeFx 3 Which is getting better with each update but still not tubey enough for me, But for small simple gigs, home studio practice ect.. I still grab the GK if there is a celestion loaded cab around or lug one of the 9 4x12 Marshall/Mesa cabs because it’s sounds that good Cleans like Roland Chorus and Marshall like crunch but still all solid state
