Great vid! I wish people who call art with dark subject matter "fetishisation" or "glorification" would actually explain what those words mean in that context. It just feels like a cheap trick to shut down any conversation around dark/taboo media. It's basically just saying "I dislike the thing because it made me uncomfy and that's why it's bad:(" It's so pretentious.
Well the difference is substance. The substance behind the action defines that. We are meant to take pensious’ assault as a joke while Angel dust within the same episode is meant to be taken serious. Even Angel dusts side comments as a joke
Hi, I wanna say as a longtime fan of both hazbin and helluva, thanks for giving this the fair shot it deserved. A lot of people unfairly hate on these properties due to a lot of bad faith interpretations. I can agree with a lot of your criticisms mainly with hazbin vibes being very spin offy. Though I can definitively say that according to writer of Loser, Baby, Sam Haft said that his intentions with the song was inspired by optimistic nihilism and meant to comfort Angel by saying that Husk and Angel can be losers together. And the creator has said that the second season will give more backstory to the characters. Thanks for lovely review and have a good one!
Thank you so much for responding! I think the internet (espically Twitter lmaoo) can blow things wayyy put of proportion espically when it comes to popular media. This show has a lot of potential and I think the kinks can be ironed out! Thanks for the info about loser baby 👀❤️
Awesome video! Lol sorry I’m a little late haha! I personally love this show I have been brainrotting and roleplaying and au making with my friends non stop and the songs have been my obsession. Specifically loser baby it is in my top 3 with stayed gone and respectless (Velvette my queen uwu) and personally I think it’s definitely supposed to be a “you’re not alone” and “be yourself” song Husk has been aware of Angels situation for a while, it’s evident from how he calls Angel fake because he sees the real and broken Angel when Angel is drunk and then compares that with how Angel usually acts, which btw in and before episode 4, Angel was constantly harassing Husk suggestively so I understand Husks not immediate urge to help. He sees how it affects Angel but he doesn’t know why Angel acts the way he does so he immediately assumes Angel is just full of fake personality, but no, Angel may act out and stuff but he does it as a defense mechanism because he is in a shitty situation. Husk, once he knows, wants Angel to see that he doesn’t have to act out and pretend around people at the hotel. Angel doesn’t have to push so many buttons or play himself up for no reason, he can relax and try to make stronger and more healthier bonds with the other hotel demons. This is evident by the bit after the song where Charlie sobbing apologizes and Angel thanks her for caring. He’s opening up and being more real. Husks backstory inclusion could have been better but I forgive it because I don’t know where else they would put in that lore confirmation and it fits well enough. Husk is definitely not actively abused by Alastor like Angel is by Val but it’s definitely not a healthy situation, even if it can be more argued it’s his(Husk’s) own fault, and his escapism, like Angel with drugs, is alcohol but he has shown to understand it doesn’t help. He and Angel are both in a shitty situations in correlation to their souls but with their friends, they can be themselves. Things are shit but you don’t have to be alone in coping or handling it. They are both deeply flawed and damaged but building each other up instead of breaking themselves down is the point of Loser Baby as I see it. Lol can you tell who my favorite character pairing is? XD
Hazbin Hotel is a series where I do really enjoy it in a lot of areas like the animation, voice acting, character interactions, and of course the musical numbers. But, it's hard to ignore that the show was rushed as hell in terms of character development in so little time it was given. It sucks because I really do like these characters and I wanted to see more of them. But, every episode were entertaining in their own ways despite a good number of them being very flawed. My favorite episodes are episodes 2 & 4. Episode 2 naturally feels like a Season 1 episode with a lot of memorable moments and Episode 4 is the best paced episode and how I wished the rest of the series was structured like it. I am a fan of Hazbin Hotel, but I'm not immature to listen to criticisms of the show by others who don't like it. The show may be a mess in my opinion, but it is an endearing mess that I appreciate watching sometimes and make UA-cam videos revolving around the series.
Loved this video, loved your look, loved your hair :D always looking forward to your fandom videos, especially when you really get into how you think/feel about it. I haven't watched the show but watched videos about it, listened to the songs, and I have mad respect for what the team was able to do. I'm deffo more of a Helluva Boss fan, especially since it really helped light the way for Indie Animation by proving that you could in fact get big name voice actors for small projects like this. Like I screamed the first time I heard Moxxie speak and I heard the voice of Zim, and then I find out the Teacher in the official first episode was voiced by Mara Wilson! Matilda herself!
@@RaccoonsTrashVault ok i need to start researching the VAs HOW did I not recognize her voice?? The only cameo I knew b4 hand was Octavia’s VA, Barrett Wilbert Weed
I did actually really enjoy this show, and it was wild watching it after seeing nothing but criticisms of it before. Like you, I do understand where some of these criticisms are coming from (while others just don't make a lot of sense to me), and there are definitely things that can be improved, but I had a fun time watching it! The fact that the songs are all bangers (which is so crazy to me! there are two songs per episode, 16 songs total, and yet I can listen to the full soundtrack without wanting to skip any of them?! literally never happens. Even with shows with music I generally really like, like Tangled the Series, Centaurworld, or Steven Universe, there's always at least a few songs I skip every time) kind of helps with that imo. For me, a good soundtrack can make up for a LOT of flaws lmao. A good soundtrack and good characters.
Very true a good soundtrack covers up a lot lolol. I hope that in season 2 we get more build up to the songs with maybe then only 1 song per episode. But all the songs are really great I have them on repeat all the time lol
Exellent video as always. As far as controversies goes from what I've heard one was about Alastor being creole but having zero visual ques towards that along with the misrepresentation of vudoo and symbols associated as it's linked to traditional African religions and is far too often bastardized and disrespected when depicted in western media. There's A LOT that can be said in regards to how vudoo or hoodoo and other old African traditions and religions are shown but a big part is the lack of actual research, care, and tact when handling and speaking about them. I don't know if that helped but I enjoy doing research into the history of old African religions and the way vudoo was used was more than a little 👀 but still enjoyed the show over all. Edited for spelling.
Yes this! The depictions in media are really bad and I feel like in 2024 I feel like it's really damn easy to just do some research before depecting these things in your show its not hard 😭
The thing about the voodoo controversy is, it would make sense for as asshole like alastor to take a religion he shouldn't and twist it into something it isn't. It would fit the character. Alastor is a bad guy. This happens to A LOT of religion like Christianity is used to promote homophobia and Transphobia. Every religion can be misused by bad individuals. I really hope that in a future season, we can a character that follows true voodoo can call out alastor.
The show has a lot of flaws, yeah, but it's still so fun and you can see the passion that's in it, especially when it comes to the characters and the musical aspect of the show, my faves by far were Angel and Husk, besides the ship (that i didn't expect to be implied canon tbh), their designs, personality and stories have me very intrigued, i love the rest of the cast as well, THE VOICE ACTING????? OH MY GOD???????????, i'm really excited for season 2, i hope they work on the worst aspects of the show and listen to the critiques, i'm excited and looking forward for season 2 🧡🧡 On the Loser, baby topic, i think it was very clear that the song is not supossed to blame anyone or to compare their contracts and the way they cope with their situations, the song just says "hey, you're fucked up and hate everything?' me too!!!, so what do you think about supporting each other in our missery?", and i think that it was the perfect way for Husk to approach to Angel since he's always denying how miserable he feels and putting on his mask, the core of their relationship is that: support, having someone always by their side who can kind of get what the other feels, besides, this single scene brought growth to Angel as a character, and it helped him to open up more and be more friendly, so yeah, i think that the message of the song was not as ambiguious as some may think it is.
Hard agree! I just can see where other people are coming from when they interpreted differently. Sometimes things have to be spelled out for the internet lmaooo
I didn't like Hazbin Hotel - and personally I don't like anything Vivziepop makes at all, really - but I am willing to have you be my filter because I trust you more than anyone.
Husk is a husk he should be victim blaming. That's just part of his crappy personality. Another reason why I do not support Angel Dust and Husk. Another toxic relationship which Viv is still supporting even though she said she wont..
@@AlleyDreamer No worries. Its a lot to process. I watched the show so many times just to understand whats going on. And OMG, a lot of stuff happened in one season. My head hurts... 😭
