    You nailed all the positive points on this well-designed venerable camera and you were right about a lot of it’s downsides. I just upgraded to a C70 but I still have held onto, and love, my ancient C100 M2 - just such a great, reliable workhorse with great image quality. Incredible battery life, and tiny, gradable files. Still great for long presentations, concerts, even Timelapse. You’re right about the built-in ND’s - very hard to go back once you’ve had them! I agree about shooting Wide DR - I found the original Clog to be too much struggle to make it worth my while. (Clog 2 in the C70 is much better and LUTS have come a long way). I MISS MY EVF though - the C70 is impossible to use outside without one. Also, even with the fix, the C70 hinge on the display is joke compared to the C100 - Canon really dropped the ball on this. If Canon had kept the form factor in the C100 M3, gone to full 4k, 10bit 422 internal they would have sold a million cameras. My review from last year - ua-cam.com/video/PBVb9OEN8-0/v-deo.html

      The C70 is great! And honestly, when shooting this video, I found C-Log on the C100 to be kinda meh. I feel like I get more out of Wide DR and is much easier to work with than C-Log. Shooting this video in C-Log 3 on my R8 is a much better experience and you're right- Log has come a long way! I just absolutely agree with your entire comment, and I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video! :)

    I have owned 3 C100mkii's for a few years now, all bought second hand...love the colour science, picture quality, built in ND's, reliability and ease of use. I have used them for artist interviews, longform multicam music event coverage (opera, big band concerts and more), arts events coverage, community events and some other passion projects.

      Here's a question, Can you film a full length cinematic movie on this camera? I know that it's been used in a major documentary but I don't know about a movie?

      @@davenolan16 this guy has shot a full length and a number of short movies on a C100mkii...not saying they're perfect (the movies or the cameras)...you have to be aware of the camera's limitations - 8 bit codec with low bitrate means you need to get things right (WB, exposure etc) in camera...not a lot of latitude in post production...this is his older feature length movie...check his channel for more narrative videos and some useful info/tips on using the C100mkii for narrative work: ua-cam.com/video/HdrQh3oWQiY/v-deo.html

      Agree, it's a great camera and for most clients or TV and you tube it's all good, know what it's strengths are, understand lighting and exposure you'll ace it...

    I bought sigma 150-600 mm c lens to film birds ony c100 mkii. Looks beautiful. I use atomos ninja 2 to record 30fps full motion at the SAME time as 60 fps so I can switch between slow motion and regular motion on 30 p timeline. Not sure if anyone knows this but with atomos recorder your can do both at same time. In camera shoot 60p hdmi shoot 30p.

    Great video. The C100 Mark II is by far one of the best all around cameras you can work with. It may not hold A cam status anymore but its definitely the king of B cams.

    Just shot a short film with my c100 mk 2 recently! Full crew of 20 for the short and my first AC was shocked I was shooting on such an old body. Final image looks amazing. Spend more money on lights, no camera bodies

      That's awesome!! I'd love to see it whenever it's available. I used to be so into the gear aspect of filmmaking- feeling like I always needed the latest and greatest gear to tell stories. If you/your crew know how to light well, you can make any camera look great! And don't forget sound, of course! The C100 mk II is still capable today! Thanks for the comment! :)

    I still have this camera...quite expensive when it was first released...I use it mostly with a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and a Canon EFS 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 and it works great! but nowadays the lack of 4k is an issue.
    I use Sony FX30 cameras for most of the interviews and occasionally use the C100 mk2 as a C camera for the wide angle- I have occasionally upscaled the 1080p footage to 4k to match the FX30s and is softer of course but usable for a few shots...many clients want 1080p deliverables and then is just fine. I shoot in 4k with the FX30s and edit in 1080p. I confess I have several Canon STM lenses and I feel guilty that I'm not using them anymore...I have E lenses now for the Sony FX30s...the C100mk2 can do face tracking as this video explains with very few STM lenses. But there is one missing on the listand in my opinon the best STM lens for this camera- The EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM which i dont use it for macro videography but for interviews and it works great-Ah...I used to be a Canon boy for sure...had a few Canon 90d cameras and many lenses but now Sony is the rave and new cameras like the FX30 are really good. Just tools...I'm curious about the Canon R7for video work but I know I would need an adapter for the EFS lenses and then I lost interest. Not sure which Canon camera would let me use my nice EFS lenses a bit longer. Our hobby is expensive! I stop at 4k cameras. No more..no 6K no 8k..NOPE! Done...!

    I"ve moved to a BMPCC6KPro for projects that have a heavy grade / clients with heavy post requirements but for anything else I still use the C100MKII. You're on the money across the board here. They made the perfect camera for small productions and it's annoying that this form factor didn't become standard for sub-studio.
    If I could put the BM6K sensor and codec options in this body, retaining a super tight compression option I'd be a happy guy.

    • @MitchGFilms
      @MitchGFilms  3 місяці тому

      Exactly! It really is the perfect camera for the one-man-band kind of shooter or very small productions. I love the form factor of this camera, too. If the C100 had the same sensor as the R6 mk ii/R5 C I’d be extremely happy. Thanks for the comment! :)

      Awesome to know you're still shooting with one! I had the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 on it when balancing on the gimbal, and in b-roll shots I was using the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM. Thanks for your comment! :)

    It's a wonderful camera, I've used mine for eight years, and has been the definition of a workhorse for event filming. Still my go to for long form filming. IQ is exceptional.

    Are the buttons all assigned to anything before changing them?

    • @MitchGFilms
      @MitchGFilms  3 місяці тому

      Yes, all of the numbered buttons on the camera are already preassigned to functions. And all of those buttons can be re-assigned to anything you like - just like how I mapped the number 7 button on the hand grip to toggle auto-focus on and off rather than the standard magnification function. I hope this helped!

    What everyones cheat codes to this camera?

    • @MitchGFilms
      @MitchGFilms  Місяць тому +2

      @@2slicedkiwis My best tips are to just stick to shooting at the base native ISO of 850 - set that and forget it. It is the camera’s cleanest ISO setting that gives you the least amount of digital noise.
      Shoot in WideDR or C-Log and avoid the standard EOS color profile.
      And make sure to “expose to the right” and use your histogram to help you achieve that. Aim to shoot about a stop overexposed- this way you can shoot to get the most dynamic range in your image and can dial in your color detail in post! Just make sure you don’t clip your highlights where there is detail.
      Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! :)

    hello with this camera being so cheep now would you recommend it over a Panasonic hc wxf1 or camcorder of that type.

    • @MitchGFilms
      @MitchGFilms  2 місяці тому

      It all depends on what you're planning to shoot, your budget, and your expertise with shooting. The Panasonic HC WXF1 looks like an all-in-one camcorder that you can pick up and shoot, whereas the C100 MK II is a step up from that with more advanced features. I personally would go with the C100 over the Panasonic if you're planning on shooting films, commercials, music videos etc. If you're just looking to shoot as a hobby and just everyday stuff like trips and vacations, the Panasonic may be more your speed. I hope this helps - thanks for watching and your comment! :)
