For everyone thinking about this camera. The internal 2k 4444 fil is perhaps the most flexible codec I have worked with. Super small files, 2K means a very fast workflow, clog2, and a color science that looks fantastic almost immediately.
Thanks for the review and I love the example footage you showed. The C70 has helped drive the price of the C300mkII and C200 down recently and I picked up a good deal on the 2nd hand market. As you mention, the first thing I noticed when using it was the noise in anything outside ISO 800. I started switching to clog1 in low light because it’s nowhere near as noisy in the shadows as clog2.
I just purchased one this year, workhorse of a camera, when I first got I continued to shoot with my GH6, however the first time I took it for a spin on set, I was so impressed with the work flow, image quality, built in NDs, and ease of use, 2 days later I sold all my Panasonic cameras, its Canon from here on out

Solid vid! And excellent points about the C300 MkII. I’ve had mine for going in 2 yrs and have all the same issues. I was able to get it to record ProRes RAW to an Inferno via SDI but haven’t tried with a Flame. My biggest dislike is how tall that clamshell display makes the form factor. I’ve debated getting the LM-V1 Canon monitor with the other XLR module (can’t remember the model #), but the price tag is pretty hefty. I love using the camera for my UA-cam channel but it seem like overkill for that. Probably going to hang on to it because I do a lot of documentary work, although I would love to have the C300 MkIII. Maybe if my channel really blows up… 🤣 Excellent vid - just subscribed. Excited to watch your past vids!
Thanks so much friend! I totally agree with the height problem and the clunky monitor setup. I spoke with someone at Atomos and they said the Inferno and Ninja V are the only monitors that can record ProRes RAW from the C300 mark ii, and that’s if you buy the Ninja V SDI adapter.

Very good. This video is exactly what I needed. Noticed a camera for $6500 CAD on Marketplace….but I’m contrasting it with the Sony FX6. The fact that you mentioned the FX6 at the end blew my mind. One of the reasons I was interested in the C300 II is because of the creamy footage and viewfinder. I find the FX6 very digital and the lack of viewfinder seems troubling. What do you think?
I’d have to agree with you! The FX6 can be very sharp and clinical, whereas I think the c300 mark ii has a smoother and more organic look to it. I also think the c300 is a bit easier to color grade.
Try using the Shogun Inferno to record ProRes RAW & HDR using HD-SDI cables out ( NOT HDMI) cables to connect to the Shogun. I can with my C300 II with upgraded touch screen. I also noticed Adorama did NOT provide/ sell it with the original C300 Mark II sturdy top handle that comes in the box. Add the touch screen kit ( like the C200 LCD) and you can rack focus by just touching the LCD

I’ve also seen your other videos that you shot of the same girl with the FX 6. It would be great if you could give us a little opinion/review on the camera. There’s really not a lot of stuff on the FX6. And very few people are shooting at the level you are. Most of the work I’ve seen shot on the FX6 looks videoish. Not yours. Cheers
Thanks Will! I've been wanting to make a video on the FX6 as soon as I got it but I want to make sure I give an accurate review on it rather than rushing to get a video out. So far I do really love it and it's probably the reason I'll end up selling this Canon. Maybe I'll work on an FX6 video next and include some sample footage for people to grade.
7:15 about the more robust FX6 comment. Ofc... if you add a V mount battery and a follow focus and railing system as your "Run and Gun" setup, it's going to be more heavy. You said before that the Body weighs 4lb which is about double what the FX6 weighs I get that. But it's still not exactly an apples to apples comparison to a rigged out double monitor follow focus mattbox v mount battery rail rig compared to just a camera, lens and a top handle with one monitor.
Thank you for valuable review, i would appreciate if you could recommend/advice on lence to use with c300 mk ii for documentary/corporate kind of filming. Thanks .
Hey Timmy, would you say the fx6 or the c70 matches the organic image of the mark ii? I have only seen a few examples that come close. I am considering a second hand mkii over the newer options because the image is so nice. Thanks for the review.
Hey Louis! I don't have hands-on experience with the C70 so I can't answer that question but I don't think the FX6 is a close match to what you're looking for. The Image is a bit cleaner and less organic. I think the C300 mark ii is an insane camera to this day. @@TimmyLodhi Thank you for the reply. Did you hate the ergonomics because of the height once built? Did you ever shoot 12 bit 444 and see a vast difference over 422?
@@louisdturner Exactly. Once the camera was built up it was extremely tall and heavy. The FX6 is so much lighter! I never noticed a huge difference between 12-bit and 10-bit. Mostly because you would have to shoot at 2K to achieve 12-bit 444 and I mostly shoot at UHD.
Great review - thank you. I've considered this as my 4K upgrade from my current camera. The main thing you showed that concerned me is the low light performance. I currently shoot with a C100 M2 that's really aged (and only 1080) and yet I feel comfortable shooting with it up to 10,000 ISO comfortably even with it's pathetic 8-bit 4.2.0 codec.
