Excellent eyesight but yet they have trouble differentiating between the surface of water and the top of a car. This is one of the reasons for their population decline, at least where I'm at. Something about the way the light reflects off of the paint of most cars makes a female dragonfly think it's water. So she goes to deposit her eggs into what she thinks is water but she's really depositing them into the hot surface of the car, basically cooking them.
How do i get into conservation work? I dont have a degree but im a life time outdoorsman/survivalist/naturalist im comfortable anywhere in nature. I also have a dive certification and emt certification. I frequently catch animals. I feel like id be of value for all kinds of conservation work
We have a variety of programs that are open to the community and people who are interested in getting involved in conservation! You can visit butterflies.org/urban-prairies-project/ to participate in our Urban Prairies Project, or become a volunteer at Butterfly Pavilion to help get you started!

well, here's hoping that the population bottleneck means only the dragonflies actually laying their eggs on water get to spread their genes
