- How to take down an Adamantoise without maxing all primary roles, without ultimate weapons, without a summon, and without shrouds.
If you are very experienced with Adamantoise's patterns and game mechanics, skip this video and watch the following one instead:
• Final Fantasy XIII - A...
Entire setup is shown after the fight. If you do not have Dragoon Lance/Dragonhorn and do not want to spend time or money to get it, Bladed Lance/Glaive will work fine. I would avoid Taming Pole/Venus Gospel because Stagger Lock may very well trip you up.
Typically, you can actually get away with refreshing Protectra on Fang only, if you need to at all.
Your guide and these videos are absolutely superb, thank you. There just cannot be a more efficient way of taking these out without pure luck and the Death spell!
Very freaking helpful, mate! I tried taking one of these on yesterday, without the rings, and without daze, and it took me close to ten minutes... :/ This method will shorten my time down a heap, making grinding that tiny bit more bearable! Thanks champ! (p.s. your gamefaqs guide is pretty swish too!)
@chrisksc It's because of the ATB full bar refresh trick. Every other turn, when changing Paradigms, you start with a full ATB bar, allowing you to instantly attack, use spells, etc. Note that I said every other turn, not every turn.
To anybody having trouble killing the 'Toise before he gets back up:
I've been running into the same problem and I think I see what I've been doing wrong; I'm not correctly sync'ing Fang's attacks with Snow's Daze spam. It only lasts a couple of seconds and you need to make the most out of each of Fang's hits. Also note that a rather significant amount of time is spent actually staggering the 'Toise. Level 5 RAVs will help with that.
You have to make sure to closely follow the accessories that are equipped in the video. Especially the Gaian Ring. Genji Glove is important for Highwind being able to destroy the legs. Tetradic Tiara casts all the buffs at the beginning. The tough part for me is that my Fang is really only good at 4 roles, she's not much of a Synergist at all yet, and her as a Syn gives you the Protectra ability.
Thanks a bunch for this! Though I failed about 10 times before I finally did it, and two of those I had to use summon, after some training I got it!
Thanks for this and your FAQ @ GameFAQs :)
Though! Question: Do you suggest getting those improved rare drop items?
@craig2007 I just had this same problem. It is crucial that you have a Genji Glove equipped on Fang to make this work. Otherwise, Highwind won't knock out a leg at any stagger % and the 'toise will eventually kill your party with a very strong attack. Also, in his gamefaqs guide, the author points out that 2500 str for Fang is a safe minimum.
@mattgamer87 Use the Genji Glove and Bravery/Bravera if you're having problems OHKOing the legs at 650-700% Stagger.
Getting the stagger that high with 3x RAV is easy for the most part--even easier if Vanille slaps Imperil on the leg first.
As for survival, Gaian Rings and General Belts are a godsend.
@xerio Snow has the item "Growth Egg" which doubles all CP gained in any fight. Adamantoise give 40,000 CP per kill and with the Growth Egg that doubles to 80,000
Kinda tough at first to get all the patterns down, esp. the end sequence syncing up with Daze, but once I figured it all out, it works like a charm, so thanks!!
After killing 5 of these things, I got my first Trap. Time to take things to the next level =]
god I love turtle farming and just watching Fang go completely HAM on these poor creatures ^_^ hands-down most powerful Fighter class character in FF history.
Thanks for this!!! Helped out a lot. It was annoying having to keep gain tp after each fight
@craig2007 syncing Fang's attacks with Snow's Daze is key here, I had to try ~30 times to get it right but definitely works - got 2440 str too on Fang.
Try canceling a couple attacks when the first Daze fades early and reuse the ATB bars on the second Daze. The rest comes quite easy.
thanks so much on this video the byrnhildr daze blitz strategy was annoying me rebuilding tp is frustrating
@Arthellinus where is the video showing setup? the faq txt is incomplete, says the items but not what order to equip.
You can get the genji glove easily with mission 51 all you need to do is make a couple paradigms with a strong sentinel. Attacks will constantly attack the sentinel it's up to you to maintain and attack hope this helps :)
I think I missed something. I was at the stage right before you go into the portal thing that takes you to Cradle. (I chose to go back to Pulse to finish a few things first) but I don't remember fighting this thing on my way to Cradle. Did I miss it? Was it optional? Did I not get to it yet?
Awesome. I killed my first 3-4 turtles last night using this method after getting sick of the summon/death crutch. Many thanks!
Wow I suck. I thought I followed your video correctly, but I guess I'm slow and gave it enough time to use Roar, so then I needed to use a summon to save everyone. In the end I took it out in 10:14... but it's my first Adamantoise kill and I thank you for this video and for your guide on Gamefaqs that prepared me to fight these beasts =).
how did you get all those HP ?? do you beat this guy after the completion of the game or before de completion answer me fast im playing right now thk you
I have tier 3 weap for Fang and Light (Pandoran and Lionheart), all primary roles maxxed and lvl 2 in one of the secondary, but no Genji Gloves neither Gaian Rings and the turtle simple destroys me. Is the glove and the ring the difference here? Is it possible to beat them with my stats?
@TsuDymphna i noticed that too on my first tries. then if you look closely to the video when the team starts to give it to the toise. Arthellinus cancels the last 2-3 attack actions to reset the sync attack with daze. this is also true for the next set of attack cancelling the last, since Fang has an extra chip shot to continue the sync. when the toise hit points goes below or on the 1/3 mark, finish with highwind ftw! :)
How do you keep him down long enough to kill him? I have stats actually higher than all of this, using the exact same roles/abilities but he is still getting up and wiping me before he even hits half health
He gets the high damage on the stagger when Snow uses Daze which increases damages by x2 when others attack.
Where can I get clay/stilstone rings? I have one clay ring from playing through the normal story, but can't find any others.
I haven't upgraded a single piece of weapon or accessory yet. I've currently got my characters level 5 in their 3 main roles and level 2 in one other... I'm yet to get any Genji Gloves & am wondering if it is still possible to defeat this guy in a quick time, in order to farm Gil and Ingots efficiently..... Can anyone supply some advice?... thanks.
I know this video is old, but there is a reason to not use venus gospel on this strategy? On the guide you advice against using taming pole (lv2 venus gospel), shamanic spear and partisan. What is the reasoning?
Venus Gospel is a great weapon, but not in this case. For the purpose of this farming method, you want to have full control when staggering the legs and any form of Stagger Lock is simply a hindrance. Shamanic Spear and Partisan are Magic-oriented weapons and offer poor Strength bonuses, so you should also avoid them.
Arthellinus oh, thank you for replying. i later noticed the stagger lock, and yeah, it was a problrem, but i still carried away with it and i have finished all the achievements of the game
I can't stagger him multiple times either. The time it takes me to heal myself up to survive his Double Stomps makes me have like no time to do damage. Got him down twice and only did like 50% damage. DAZE IS A MUST. However I only like playing as Snow and Sazh. I don't want Fang or Lightning in my party ever lol. I would switch to SAB with snow because I have daze for him already however, he does the most damage out of everyone so I'm sticking with Death Method until I get daze.
I'm having some trouble with this method for some reason and I can't figure it out.
I have superior stats to you, all of the same gear (except Snow has an Entite ring instead of Gaia which isn't the problem) and all of the same paradigms. I can take out both legs very easily without the second Protectra round, but every time it's down it always gets up before I can kill it. I've only managed to beat it once and that was with a fortunately timed Highwind/Daze combo just as it was starting to stand. Any idea as to why this is happening for me but not you?
I know it's long ago, but in case someone else has the same problem: Try switching the combat speed to slow. I used to have the beast stand up when I was halfway the stagger bar, but when put to slow I can easily highwind him at the very end of the stagger period without it standing up.
Vanille is equipped with the Connoisseur Catalog.
Shouldn't it be the Survivalist? Equipping the Connoisseur Catalog kills your chances of getting a platinum ingot, doesn't it?
You really do need Daze. He gets up when I've got him half way dead, I could try knocking him down twice, but idk. I'm trying this with Snow as my leader Sazh and Vanille. Snow has 2500 STR and Genji Glove. As soon as I stagger a leg I can immediately switch to COM/MED/MED and use Sovereign Fist to take out the legs. ( don't need to build stagger at all can do it at 400% with him ) However without daze he gets up at around 50% HP, I'm gonna Death method til I get daze I only like playing as Snow
SmileyGamer13 Are you sure everything was exactly as done in the video? Because I pulled this off with LESSER stats.
alright someone explain this to me please. same exact equipment, same setup, same process. my fang hits AT MAX 95,000 damage per attack at 900% stagger. But apparently in this video this fang has no problems breaking 220,000+ per attack from 850% stagger onwards.
@khrisnah09
After, because then you unlock the lv5 crystarium.
Does not work for me :( With Calamity Spear it only take 100k damage with each hit from adamntoise on last part of battle
all levels and other equipment same as recomended, maybe only solaris for snow
on other equipment i have no gil =8
how did you get genji glove low leveled??
@DanielKohbad
Snow's sabbing for Daze
tortoise paraswitching to reduce damage?
love it, so much better than summoning and havingt to recharge TP
Just reatarted this game video n faq are great help thx
How do I get gaian rings??
I can't do this. I'm doing it exactly the same as the video. I promise. He always has 1/4 or less of his HP... then he stands up. I have even better stats... but Vanille WON'T use ruin. Even after I buff with haste/faithra. It's so much bullshit. Even timing Daze he gets back up too soon.
there a reason for switching between tridisaster and another identical tridisaster
When you switch Paradigms you get a full ATB bar. I think the cooldown on that is about 12 seconds if I remember right.
Whoa!! ya ppl are right on here.. he gets up WAAAYY too fast... I maxed out my main roles and have tier 2 weapons with Fang's Str at 2575..
also just noticing now that this entry was 6 months old. sorry! you probably have figured that out by now.
wait a sec! the catalogs will still work even if they're not on the character you're controlling!? '0'
may be its because your Crystarium still on stage 9 not 10
Gaian Rings + casting Protectra
how in the name of savior u only take 3000 damage from that stomp, i can only get that low damaged with triple Tortoise setup (Sen/Sen/Sen)

he give u 80,000 CP...but when i killed him he gave me 40,000..but why? I killed him using Vanille death ability....
you need the growth egg. I can't remember what mission it is but the boss name Neochu and he is an ahole.
Jose Rios Mission 55
Strategy : Vanille/Snow/Hope
Sab/Sen/Med Just let snow tank it and kill him with death
+Mert1313 Heard some people only used a single death cast on him and killed him ;p. I had to finally just kill all the baby Neochus then cast death for like 2 hours...although that one time i deathed him 1st but then the babies killed me since I was focused on Neochu. >.> Vanille's Firaga works pretty good on the babys in the beginning to wipe 2 or 3 out then i just summon when he uses screech to survive that first blast. this is strategy for 8k health
hurr fang needs to learn synergist? :[
@Zodiarkz Well I'm stronger than this and doing everything very simillar and I'm still failing. So the Arthellinus has skillz >_>
Ok this vid is making me feel utterly ashamed.. I'm much stronger than this and I still can't beat him without summoning (I don't use death). Guess I'll try your strategy now that I realize I've wasted so much money and lots of hours "preparing". I really shouldn't have underestimated the skills I already had.....
this is fucking impossible without fang as a synergist
good strategy...
lol no spoils
Hacked. This is impossible. I tried it, everything the same AND high stats. I couldn't even get the head to stagger without dying.
hahaha!! Hadoken, that made me laugh XD
is it just me or u got alot of CP? lol
