- More good news for potential osteoporosis treatments this year. Following on from my previous video looking at how warmth-induced changes within the microbiome prevented decline in bone mass seen in osteoporosis, this new study shows how alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) may have a similar effect. The study shows in mice that AKG increases bone mass in aged mice suggesting that AKG could be used to prevent age-related bone loss.
Also at the end I will be revealing a free supplement giveaway!

as @hesacon commented, be really interesting to eventually learn if there is a diff in effectiveness of the AKG Ca salt Vs the Arginine AKG (which is very cheap)
Thanks for this and all your previous films - I love them !
Hi, I’m going to use this comment to, like many others, congratulate you, for the work that you have been doing with this channel! In school/university normally there is not many courses that talk about the biology of aging and as a master’s student that wants to pursue this research field, your videos are helping and teaching me a lot.
I wanted to also comment about alpha ketoglutarate: Ponce de Leon health has done a study that they claimed to have decreased the epigenetic age of persons in 8.5 years with alpha ketoglutarate, even though the epigenetic clock they used I don’t think that is the best, it made me think that alpha ketoglutarate probably is decreasing the epigenetic age of the cells, possible with the help of TET enzymes and so, maybe alpha ketoglutarate it’s like a natural version of (partial) epigenetic reprogramming.
I value your videos highly. It reduces the amount of studies I have to look at myself because your videos are of high quality contentwise. Hope you carry on :).
Thank you for the informative videos. I wouldn't even know how to begin to properly evaluate these studies.
Great coverage of this study... ties in nicely with the Ponce De Leon study, where Calcium-AKG reduced epigentic age in people.
Keep on keeping on, Sheekey. I always look forward to your videos!
Sheekey is a great synthesizer of information. I get a lot of information!
I would like to try AKG supplement. It's sold here in USA in powder form. Your videos are very informative. Thank you.
Great vid. Sweet and to the point, yet still very informative. Thanks!
I actually take AKG twice per day (along with some other essential amino and fatty acids). It's extremely cheap to purchase and has no side effects (at least for me).
Great video, I’ve been watching your videos a lot lately. Awesome that you’re already doing a giveaway and great job on the collaboration (I guess that’s what you’d call it). Senescent cells have been an interest of mine lately as well.
Thanks! :)
Thanks for providing concise and well-researched information on this very exciting subject.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Thank so much for the information! I’m looking to implement certain supplements in my diet for their health benefits
Thank you so very much sharing this research!
Always interesting to see news about AKG. I hope that future studies will not find any downsides to this supplement and that it helps to slow down aging in humans.
Totally agree!
This is amazing info! Thank you for including relevant research and resources.
Thanks!! 😊
Even though, as a guy, I'm at low risk for osteoporosis, I still think this is very interesting. I have several other fellow oldies in my life who are women who I love, and will follow this AKG issue with great interest. Also, the niacin vid showing a small study supporting that niacin will promote more NAD+ in one, had huge impact for me - thanks!
Love the format of your videos! Informative and to the point! :)
Thank you!! 😊
great work. lucid and clear!
Congratulation for your new collaboration with DoNotAge. thank for your work! Is there a link between aKG and Niacin?
Thanks, am sure there is, just not been investigated yet! 😊
Nice to know that regular priced AKG works for longevity not just expensive Ca-AKG. I want to add it to my Anti aging stack but don't know if I can justify the more expensive version.
Thanks for this, great video. Seems like a good reason for me to resume my Ketogenic diet as some studies have shown if we make sure our kreb cycle is burning fat instead of carbohydrates by doing that we can boost our AKG levels.
Do you have any links for these studies? 😊
_"In the presence of plentiful acetyl-CoA from fat metabolism, the first segments of the Krebs cycle are highly active, producing an abundance of α-ketoglutarate, the levels of which have been observed to be increased in an adult rat ketogenic diet model."_
Please follow up on this promising compound with updated videos. I think this is an overlooked nutrient that has potential for a lot of conditions.
Great information... thank you.
Love your videos. I am currently taking Ponce de Leon's Rejuvant, Curcumin, Quercetin, when I find, Fisetin, Nuchido's Time+. Fasting for 40 hours every week and doing HIIT. 49 years old from Brazil.
Thanks! 😊
Was undecided on supplementing with AKG before but I’m definitely getting on it now.
The data does look promising. I am looking forward to seeing some human trial data! 😊
Nice video, as always! I think I'll start supplementing with AKG.
Thanks! 😊
Thank you for your channel. I enjoy it and your work a lot. Do you have any sense as to whether AKG would be safe to give to a dog? Thanks!
I love your videos. Thank you so much for the great content you have created.
Thank you! 😊
@@TheSheekeyScienceShow your welcome. Keep up the great work 🙂
Greetings from Savannah Georgia always enjoy your work.
Love your channel. Is their a supplement that you would recommend that would best deliver AKG ?
I have been taking AKG twice a day, 300 mg each time for two weeks. Less inflammation for sure. It is easy to take. I dissolve the contents od the capsule in a shot glass. Easy in that it agrees with me (some longevity supplements like resveratrol can give stomach upset)
I started taking EKG about three weeks ago and now I am so glad I did after listening to you. Period.
Hi. Where do y buy it? And what y felt with Akg?
@@gmc202 Look on Amazon made by KIRKMAN and Highback!!
@@blindandlearning9379 Thanks. Are y felling some improvement? If y are, what? Thanks again
@@gmc202 well I’m pretty old I’m 67 and I feel young anyway and people say I look young anyway but I didn’t really feel much difference but I’ve only been taking in about two months so this is long-term i’m hoping it makes a difference along with the other things I take
@@blindandlearning9379 Thanks very much
. I wish y have good results .
I started taking AKG and Spermidine 2 months ago 👍
Very interesting. I wonder about the optimal dosage for someone in their 60s.
Hey hey 👋 Can you make a video about epithanol, more specifically on it's effects on telomere attrition! I would also like to see a video about collagen synthesis! Remember, collagen is indeed important for reversing aging 😉❤
Will definitely consider it! 😊
Very informative topic.
Thanks for your video. Can you please tell us what the different between AKg and calcium Akg or both are same?
Great video, as always! Everything I would comment/ask has been said by others, so Ill just express interest in the giveaway lol.
another interesting videos about longevity .. have a lot of words/concept still need to learn ... any thoughts if any food could potentially boost AKG?
Thanks and not that i know of! 😊
AKG might be making an appearance in my stack so!
How If I could just figure out something to stop my chronic lower back ache. I take AKG.
Thanks. There's a very expensive supplement on the market which is caAKG. Is there a reason for supplementing with caAKG vs AKG?
NAD+, Spermidine,AKG all important energy metabolism substrates that wayne over time. would repleting these substances cause semi permanent increase in respective function? or is this a required nutrient therapy medication due to these now chronic conditions?
They used Calcium AKG for the mice, a common supplement in use for gym goers is Arginine AKG, do you think the effect is the same no matter what it was derived from?
Just speculating, would say definitely a difference, but *may* both be beneficial. Major differenve being the amino acid in arginine AKG as opposed to just calcium
Is it better for longevity to take AAKG or CaAKG ?? Any difference in which to take for women than men??
How long to take it and what dose to see results?
So all that AKG supplements that are out in the market with different doses strengths are really worth to purchase?
AKG is super interesting, but it comes in so many different salts. Is there any research into how the different forms dissociate and interact?
I think that info is really lacking right now!
Great explanation I watched your previous video on AKG and was also impressed. Thanks for doing these. I wanted to see if you will make a video or at least comment on the latest news about HBOT therapy? American Friends of Tel Aviv University
Summary:
A new study indicates that hyperbaric oxygen treatments (HBOT) in healthy aging adults can stop the aging of blood cells and reverse the aging process. In the biological sense, the adults' blood cells actually grow younger as the treatments progress.
Literally just posted a video on this!! 😊
I liked this video, very much
Which version of akg did they use? Calcium or arginine?
I've been throwing Bob's Red Mill Raw Wheat Germ in my smoothies for about a year now, 2 tbsp is about 3mg spermidine.
Does Arginine AKG have similar benefits to CA AKG?
What would be the human dosage?
Thanks for this timely research based presentation. But am a bit confused about p53. If memory serves animals, like elephants, who have extra copies (compared to humans) of the p53 gene, have lower cancer rates as a result. And in humans exercise increases expression of p53, which I understood to be anti-cancer. But the research you presented at ~ 7 minutes indicates AKG reduced expression of p53. Is that correct, and if so, why is reduction of p53 expression desirable? Or am i confusing histone methylation status with gene expression?
So in a general sense, p53 is activated by stress, e.g exercise but there is good and bad stress. So low expression in this case seems to suggest less dna damage (as a source of stress) which is good
But these tablets don't they have any of the same effects from diet or lifestyle? Or only way is trough these tablets? Im really curious.
is taking AAKG similar to AKG or CaAKG?
just curious about the bioavailability of AKG, how much is being taken up by the cells.
I am going to guess a lot since it reduces inflammation. I took akg because sheekey had a vid about how it was good for collagen. But I noticed zero problem after eating more gluten than I should. Usually I swell a bit.
How does the NAD and AKG collaborate with energy production in our bodies?
Haven't seen anything on this yet, but would be interesting!
Thanks for the video! Do you know if you can use AAKG and get the same benefits?
Not sure, sorry!
Congrats Sheng, you have won the giveaway (if you want to take it) . Please get in touch so this can be arranged)
@@TheSheekeyScienceShow congrats
@@TheSheekeyScienceShow Wow thanks! Where do I send you my info?
@@sheng9565 you can get my email from the description page on my channel!
They have suplemented mice with 2% CaAKG. What means 2%? Total ammount of food...water..what?
Sorry for the dumb question. But is AAKG effectively the same as AKG?
Not dumb, but no since AAkG has arginine, amino acid conjuagted and so could have other effects!!
@@TheSheekeyScienceShow Thanks alot for taking the time to answer 😊
Looks like aKG has been studied for muscle growth, but didn't work.
How many ca-akg would a human have to take to get that 0,75% mice level?(i have placed a order of akg recently)
Honestly don't know, will have to have a think for you!
@@TheSheekeyScienceShow ok if you found a answer please let me know.
Are any human studies planned?
I'm italian, I'm really interested in your videos, but your exposure it's really confusing, I really have problem following arguments that are difficult even in my language.
