If you like film noir style stories with a metaphysical twist I would suggest Haruki Murakami's "Dance,Dance,Dance" or 1Q84, the books I read this year are mostly counterpoint and harmony books to compare their given rules for rule-based music composition so this video made me realise I read no fiction this year... will try next year. 🙌

Though I read it so many years ago, my gaijin brain was impressed by The Anatomy of Dependence by Takeo Doi - a brief peak into the Japanese psyche by a psychoanalyst. It might have some relevance these days.
