I'm on the same boat as you. TDX was also the first time I've heard Masked Dedede's theme (I've never checked any YTPMVs about it). Indeed an insane entry point for me into the Kirby series.
Dedede is one of my favourite Nintendo characters and just characters in general. At a glance, one might assume he’s no different to the likes of Bowser, just an evil tyrant with no concern for anything other than serving their own self interest and oppressing others. But unlike Bowser or many other Nintendo villains, it’s hard to call Dedede evil per se. He’s certainly not heroic, he’s still selfish, greedy and self serving a lot of the time, but he’s not a tyrant, he just loves food a bit too much and has a (clearly personal) vendetta against Kirby because he always gets the best of him, made even worse by Kirby’s innocence and obliviousness. What’s great about this theme is it feels like a distorted version of his own theme music, with soft intervals that could portray him trying to break free of the mind control only to be overpowered once more. He might not be the hero of the lower world but that does not mean he has no concern over what happens to it and his people.
Well said, I can easily say king dedede is my favorite Nintendo villain (other than bowser). But I just want to add the fact that Bowser isn’t entirely evil. He helps Mario or gets help from Mario sometimes to defeat a greater enemy like king Dedede. A truly evil villain is someone like Ganon. Bowser and king Dedede aren’t the most evil of villains. But king Dedede is less evil than Bowser. Characters like Marx in star allies, only help Kirby for there own personal gain, in Marx’s case to defeat a threat to him. King Dedede helped Kirby after being saved by him, to defeat a threat to his kingdom and save dreamland. But I just wanted to say I entires agree with your point.

For example in the Mario and Luigi games, he helps them because something is a threat (SS: Peach's voice, PiT: Shroobs attacking, and that was Baby Bowser, BIS: It all started because his Goombas were blorbed according to the remake, and then he had no idea he was helping Mario). Other times like Origami King are the same: Either a threat to him and his minions, or a threat to Peach. As for the Mario Party, Kart, and Sports games, I consider them non canon.

The big thing I wish Nintendo realizes when it comes to Masked DDD’s epicness is that it’s not just a Super Sayain style upgrade, it’s an entire story in itself. Everything from the background of the original fight to the music’s slow start tells you DDD ain’t messing around anymore.
I remember hearing this for the first time back in 2014 and was absolutely psyched masked dedede was back! His theme is still one of my favourite video game sound tracks just because of how hype it is!

This song is an orchestral masterpiece, its actually really fucking good and I think that fact just flew over our heads when we were younger. Listening to it now is like a trip back in time & a privilege knowing i got to play an incredibly good game as a kid.

The big thing I wish Nintendo realizes when it comes to Masked DDD’s epicness is that it’s not just a Super Sayain style upgrade, it’s an entire story in itself. Everything from the background of the original fight to the music’s slow start tells you DDD ain’t messing around anymore.

I can’t say for sure, but I feel as though I overlooked this song, and I think it might just be the best one in all of Kirby.

This song is an orchestral masterpiece, its actually really fucking good and I think that fact just flew over our heads when we were younger. Listening to it now is like a trip back in time & a privilege knowing i got to play an incredibly good game as a kid.
This is the song that plays when a small pink sphere made out of year old play-dough fights a big blue anthropomorphic penguin wearing a elegant kingly robe bought at a thrift store who loves to eat multiple gigatons of well made food items on a daily basis leaving everyone to starve.
