Old vid but It came up when I was researching the duncan power stage units. I've got the 200 watt version on the way to go with my FM3. Just rocking a single Mako amplification 1x12 for now but it and the powerstage are replacing an old Electrovoice FRFR I used to have behind me on stage.
This is great video, Taylor. When the AFX III first came out, I thought it would be an incredible solution for touring bands to be able to run 2 guitars and a bass all through it at the same time. Your video here is the first one I've seen that really shows that feature being used.
I have tried the LP-16 for my band, but the big down side for me was the gap between each song. I wanted a set without cuts in the sound between songs since i added some ambient soundtrack to eliminate those silent awkward moment when you finish a song. I came back to the good old macbook!
You can turn the gaps off. Or, what I do is just have 2 set lists with all the ambient noise already in there. So basically we play the first half of our set, and then when the drummer is ready he starts the second half.
Need a laptop to record the set, unless there is some other recording device. Our laptop plays the backing tracks and also records the mixer L/R mains at the same time
I’ve been looking at the LP 16 for a while! Would love to see how you are mounting it in the rack. I don’t understand why they didn’t make a dedicated version 😢
They do have a rack mount unit, but it's more expensive and I think it records as well as plays back. It's just a rack shelf with some velcro strips! 🙌
okay this was sick! the axe fx 3 sounds killer I recently bought a helix rack for this exact reason but didn't have the budget for the axe fx might have to save up and just buy one soon keeps getting harder to not get one.
New subscriber! Lol. Sad you ditched the Ampero, I found your channel because of those videos, im r3ally considering getting one and selling my 6505+ since I only play at home now.
Thanks so much, welcome! 🙌 I didn't ditch it completely, it's just retired to my studio for now. The axefx just made so much more sense, since I could have it do ALL the modeling. I was having issues with trying to program midi for two separate modelers, and getting the to sync up and for it not to be weird.
@@TaylorDanley oh yeah I get that. Great job on all the videos, I will definitely keep watching. I'm trying to downsize my studio now. Married with 4 kids, my studio is getting invaded lol
Awesome video man! Is there any way you can do a more in depth video of you showing how the two guitars and bass are set up on the axe fx? Planning to run a similar set up for my band
Im thinking about how it sounds? I like real tube amp but modeller too. For me this sound is good but to comapring to real ampps is too flat. Maybe tube guitar poweramp could brake this flatting ..cheer sand thanks for this movie
Cool video, Taylor! I'm running a similar setup as you, but I've got the Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 on my pedalboard with the Fractal AX8 floor unit. Those Powerstages work so well with modelers. I need to find out more info about the Cymatic LP-16 unit you're running. I use backing tracks with two of my bands and right now we are using an iPad or my keyboardist has a computer running his keyboard samples and our tracks. I'm always worried about something crashing, haha. Plus I'd love to have something to auto-switch my patches.
Thanks!! Yes, check out my other vids on the LP16, it's awesome and really easy to use/setup! My band used a laptop prior to this, and that thing was always crashing or having issues.
Very cool and very interesting. How on earth though do you keep perfect timing so that patch changes happen at the right time? I mean, what if the singer wants to talk a little longer, or you want to do something very normal like take a request to play a song not normally in your set list? It would seem that would really mess things up, but I'm stulid when it comes to midi, etc, except I know it sends and recieves messages and you can use it to trigger samples or with a foot controller to change scenes or patch changes. I'm such a hill jack hack and old player I would mess up so much in your band. 😂 Gokd stuff. That backing track player would be great for a one man band or like two guys playing without a drummer and bass player. Very cool. Thanks for sharing all this killer info..
Hey mate, would you be able to show off the internal mixer options in the LP-16 Would love to see how it looks Ideally looking at grabbing the LP-16 and using the internal mixer faders to be able to 'route' the headphone jack for the drummers mix using spare channels not being used for sample playback. I think set to 'pre' you can turn them down without effecting the 16 outputs?
Taylor Danley legend! Be good to actually see it in action, all I can find is a signal breakdown on the manual, but not actual video showing the software UI of doing that I assume you’re running the outputs you need into a mixer and then into IEMs/headphones for the drummer?
@@StatAvg so I'm running 5 outputs put of the unit. 1 is the click, which goes to the drummers mixer (he has a small mixer for himself), 2 is rythym guitar di going to an axefx 3, 3 is bass di going to an axefx 3, 4 is a reamped rythym guitar going to the drummers board, and 5 is samples that go to FOH. I'll see if I can get a live demo of it here soon. I do show it in action in my rig rundown vid on my channel, but dont go into too much detail with the LP16
Taylor Danley yeah loving the videos, I actually didn’t read your comment properly before I asked the seperate mixer question, sorry about that Loving the new rig, looking at doing pretty much the exact same setup but with that new Neural DSP quad cortex if it’s as good as rumoured to be, using kempers right now but an even smaller form factor would be great Glad to see the LP-16 and 700 powerstage in a rig
@@StatAvg hell yeah, let me know if you do. I'd love to see that thing in action. The axe fx made the most sense for me because of the I/O and processing power. Even when modeling with effects on 2 guitars and a bass, I never run it past like 65% Very excited for the new NDSP stuff though. I love their plugins.
Hey Taylor! Nice videos. They are a great help, even for us people who doesn't play metal. I have a question about the LP-16. How do you get the footswitch to change track, and not just play / pause what ever track it's currently on? I don't really see the point in my drummer ''controlling'' the lp-16 if he can't go to the next track. I hope you can help me!
I'm not sure if it does that, but the footseitch function is in the menu on the lp16. The way I have it set up is to auto load the next track (I think it does it by default, if not check the menu options), and then he presses the foot switch when hes ready... I should mention though, I do only use 2 tracks total for our set. Each track has 3-4 songs+sample between. They are essentially the first and second halves of the set
Hey thanks for asking. IEMs are definitely on the horizon but without any shows anytime soon, who knows when. For now we just have a click and backing guitar for the drummer
Hey man! How does programming midi patch changes for the LP-16 differ with the Axe Fx III vs the Ampero? I have the Axe Fx III and am considering getting something like the LP-16 since it can run tracks as well as patch changes. Would love to know your thoughts!
Not dramatically different. Really the midi editing is pretty much the same, but it's more about how the AXEFX and Ampero interface with it. In the ampero, I was turning effects on and off, and switching patches. In the AXEFX I'm only changing scenes, so it was a little bit easier
They bass backing track DI comes from the LP16, is processed in the AXEFXIII, then to the ISP Stealth which powers an Ampeg 2x10. I dont actually play bass! Hopefully I answered your question 🙌
No definitely not, you dont want a cabinet IR running unless you're using a flat response speaker. Good question, I've just had it for a long time.... it's a standard footswitch with 1/4" plug. I'm sure any like it would work.
Live rig? What country you live in? With all the Covid going on i ain't played since March. You cant be doing cruise liner stuff, and bars are closed, enlighten me! Or you just saying this your live rig for rehearsing?
OMG the Cookie Monster vocals is just so freaking old and tiring I mean for real do guitar players and musicians not require someone to sing anymore. I mean it's not like it hasn't been done a bazillion times.
I m totally flatten eith the tone....great job man
Good stuff, man! That Jackson is beyond gorgeous.
Thank you! 🙌 Yes, I like it too 😉

I’m looking into the Cymatic LP16 we are in industrial metal band. I program the drums and record the keys to a click
Nice Taylor! Would love to see more about the LP-16👍🏻
Thanks!! 🙌 I have a couple more vids detailing it on my channel!
Get a couple Laney power cabs and eliminate the power amps, the Laney 1x12 sounds awesome and is versital.
