I'm the "one woman bought two houses" mentioned. It's actually two women. Myself and my business partner. We have a long way to go before they're habitable. The plan is for me to eventually live in one house and rent out the other. We're thrilled to have a Betsy as our neighbor.
Well, she works for restoration organization AND she mentioned getting the dining room table from Montpelier, a Colonial town in Vermont. Someone like her treasures history but like modern and comfort.
I disagree. To me, her mix of traditional and modern is absolutely not seamless and, in fact, isn't at all complimentary to the home's origin. If I were ever to buy that house from her after her renovation, the first thing I would do would be to replace all those awful, modern light fixtures that seem to be flipping off the stately integrity of that marvelous old home. They're so laughably wrong for this home and stick out so like a sore thumb that they distract from the original interior architecture instead of sticking to their purpose of sophisticated illumination of it. Next I would dim down that aggressively yellow paint color in the entryway and then I would merrily tear down that comically horrible wallpaper in the kitchen. (There are absolutely COUNTLESS* wallpaper designs out there... and she chose *THAT*?? 🙄 Wow.) And while I love the dining table, the chairs...oy! The chairs... again distracting from the rest of the room and simply not auspicious in any sense. Naturally, that's just my opinion, of course, although I'll note I'm well-schooled in art and design, not that that will matter to anyone, but maybe it should.😉 Obviously, we all have our different preferences and sense of what looks good, I'm just a true believer in celebrating and respecting the history and architecture of an older home by reflecting that more than less in its interior design. The End 🤗
I have been a builder for over 40 years. I saw this home right in the beginning. To say it needed just a little bit of TLC would be a huge understatement. She’s done an amazing job. Congratulations ( Beautiful )……
You young ladies just amaze me. Women are definitely carving out their space in business and that makes me so happy . You are much of what I tried to be in my generation. At 76 I can really enjoy the progress women have made in my lifetime.keep the good work up ladies!!
I'm so glad to see the update. I'm not the biggest fan of some of the styling choices but that doesn't matter. I LOVE that she loves it. It's her home, not a generic vacation rental. She should feel comfortable and excited to live there. I would love to restore a home
Agreed. I think it's way too dark in many of the rooms, especially the kitchen & bathrooms with the wallpaper. I'm all about having light so you can SEE the true historical beauty. 😊
I appreciate Betsy’s honesty: “I never want to do this again.” It’s hard to live in a construction project. Great results, and kudos for kick starting the rise and renovation of Wheeling!
Wheeling is a cute little town with beautiful but abandoned historic buildings. I've been there several times last decade and I remember feeling sad that the town especially downtown was so empty and and abandoned, and how it has the feel and the potential of old cities like NY. I'm glad there are people like Betsy, reviving the old city
I'm so relieved at the direction Betsy took with the interior design--dark coloured trim, vintage furniture, going for maximalist wallpapers, preserving the old layers of wallpaper. It preserves the original charm without fearing being eclectic--it's like the opposite of modern conventional design and I love it!! What an inspiration, and all thanks to you for documenting it all!
Betsy gives me hope! My boyfriend and I fell in love with a 1913 Victorian around Wheeling. She needs a little love and it all seems overwhelming. But the way Betsy did all of this is inspiring. This is our first home and we absolutely love it. Fingers crossed things work out.
Fun little piece of minutiae: when Betsy was talking about how hard it was to deal with the tin ceiling panels in the kitchen, she didn’t mention that Wheeling, W.V. was actually home to the largest manufacturer of tin ceiling panels in the US in the late 1800s, roundabout when the building boom of this kind of home was getting underway. So there’s a really good chance that the original installer would have been able to go get the panels at the local distributor hot off the press right there in their hometown.
She talked about it in the first video, so she was aware of it and I assume if it had been that easy, she wouldn't have gone to the trouble of creating a mold and making these herself.
Is that why my lathe plaster is stuck to is god damn metal. I needed to get into the wall in the bathroom, bust the plaster and boom metal sheeting with diamond cut outs.
Since the original was posted, I’ve bought my own house and I am renovating it! I love her advice on you should pick things that speak to you, not what you saw on Pinterest 😅
Great video! For 2023, it’s hard to nail down specific predictions for the housing market is because it’s not yet clear how quickly or how much the Federal Reserve can bring down inflation and borrowing costs without tanking buyer demand for everything from homes to cars.
@Craig Daniels Given current recession pressures, it is unlikely that the stock will yield substantial returns in the near term. However, it may be a suitable investment opportunity. I will monitor market conditions and consider purchasing when there is an improvement in the relevant economic indicators, any idea which stocks this may be, I just sold my home in the Boca Grande area and I’m looking to remunerate a lump sum into the stock market before stocks rebound, is this a good time to buy or no?
@Craig Daniels You are right! I diversified my 450K portfolio across various market with the aid of an investment coach, I have been able to generate a little bit above 1.3m in net profit across high dividend yield stocks, ETF and bonds during this red season.
Yay! I've been waiting 2 years or this video, I never thought you'd actually revisited the house! Thank you 😁The finished rooms look amazing! Very distinct personal style. Love any kind of restorative work on older-style homes and buildings, it's so good to see new life breathed into them.

I am so impressed with young women like this, who love and appreciate the beauty of old things and preserve them. The place is magnificent. Her work ethic is epic.
It’s beautiful in its own way. Unique and eccentric. I would have went in a completely different direction lol. Only because i would have never thought of the wallpaper themes she has chosen. I love watching other peoples visions and how they think outside the box. She’s very artistic and had a lot to overcome. I would have paid 18k for it and lived in it as I worked on it. Lol! This is a dream come true. A rare find. She practically stole it for that price. I’m definitely envious.
Incredible taste is umm a stretch. She certainly couldn't be a decorator but people can put what they like in their own houses. I saw more potential if I'm being honest. The colors/design choices were not ideal is all I'll say....
The house was already amazing when she bought it. But as I'm used to very small spaces and houses, I'd never thought she could make it so cosy without overdoing it. Love it.
Props to all who've restored this home and respected it's history. Many here in CA have purchased California craftsman homes (my favorite) and simply gutted them on the inside without trying to keep much of the history in the restoration. Now I've even been thinking of moving to Wheeling.
Love it. All of it. I especially love that she's gone with her heart in decorating and not just pulled out another carbon copy grey and white Pinterest interior.
My goodness, this looks amazing! I've always wondered what happened to the house after the initial introduction 2 years ago and I am so glad to see so many original parts of the house are being kept and restored! They were beautifully made with so much dedication and love to the craft! I also agree that the blue wallpaper in the bedroom is absolutely stunning - I can't wait for it to be restored and the original piece of it preserved for historical purposes. Kind of reminds me of the UA-cam channel How To Renovate A Château from Le Fleur Honfleur. They do a lot of preservation work while also bring a modern look to their place. Keep going strong!! I look forward to having the honor of seeing the completion of this massive project!!!
I love older homes that aren’t redone straight in a historical manner. That’s a museum, not a home. She has done an excellent job of paying respect to the period of the home but bringing modern touches. Excellent job.
That’s basically what I said !! Not easily done but she did !! Great job while keeping the history but not making it gody just historic and touches of new that match very well !
Omg the bathroom wallpapers are my absolute favorite! I can’t decide which one I like the most, but I think I’m leaning towards the one with the red flowers… Also totally in love with the peeling/multilayered historical record in the main bedroom - not only literally/aesthetically but also for what it symbolizes and the way that it respects, incorporates and strategically showcases the special character aspects/eccentricities of the house rather than just painting over them. I love seeing the unique ways that people find to integrate/highlight original features when restoring or renovating old homes like this that are just bursting with rich history, special details and charm. So inspiring! Congrats on the gorgeous home Betsy!
It’s so beautiful and inspiring! Love that she was brave enough to take on this property. It is not only a blessing for her but for the entire neighborhood and town.
This house is imperfectly perfect! I absolutely love the wallpapers in the bedroom. It’s unique and shows off the years and tastes of the home and people that have lived there. I would keep the stairs as they are. Again, it shows the age of the home and I would say the love of going up and down. Thank-you so much for sharing. ❤️
This is so amazing! Your video two years ago inspired me to get my own old house! It's so surreal that when I watched it then, it was from a tiny city apartment I was renting, and today I'm watching this video from a beautiful old craftsman style home that I own. Betsy really swayed me on the charms of older homes 😍
I love this renovation! I am so glad that you added your style and artistic flair to it. As well, thank you for all you are doing for the community with jumpstarting a revitalization. And thank you for sharing your work!
This house looks amazing and I love that the homeowner made choices of finishes that she knows she will always love and not with what she sees in Vogue...great advice! :)
The first video you did on Betsy's house was the first video I watched of yours and I was immediately obsessed with this house and subscribed because I loved your videos and I hoped that one day we'd get an update on this house. Betsy you did a fabulous job on it! It's beyond what I imagined it turned out to be!
This was an amazing find. Just checking out UA-cam for something special to watch and your site caught my eye. I haven't been to Wheeling since the 50s visiting my grandparents. You're doing a great job of restoring your home, I wish you the best! Looking forward to watching what you'll do next! The best of everything for you and those who are helping you reach your goal.
So happy she restored this older home! No doubt a lot of work went into it. Should be proud of yourself. Not wild about the decor but also not my home.
I love that she was not wrapped around the axel about making everything restored to original. I appreciate her aesthetic and her willingness to do it her way
She has good taste it's refreshing to see a house where they haven't painted half the rooms grey. When you've got a big hall and stairway you CAN paint things bright yellow and it doesn't look like its taking over. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the modern style light fixtures but I know the OG type might make things a bit dark for filming and show-housing so that's maybe a practical limitation.
My first house was a fixer and her statement about "everything taking longer and costing more than you expect" is absolutely true, and it's even more difficult if you're living there during the process. Congratulations Betsy!! You bring new meaning to the term "sweat equity" and everything so far has turned out beautifully.
Thank you so much for following up! I just saw the first video this morning, and was wishing I could see a follow up. Love it that in the first video, Besty said "master" bedroom, and in the second video she said primary. Positive change on more than one level.
Wholeheartedly agree. Many years ago I worked in a law office in a SF Victorian that was refreshed but kept its Victorian character. Saw it on Zillow last year; all interiors had been gutted in favor of modernist white and gray. They absolutely destroyed all life the house had. One can only hope future owners will realize what was done and bring back a bit of the Victorian feel.
Wow, I saw the original story and thought if only, it can't be a good idea, glad to see it completely different and beautiful for the sections that are done. Keep up the good work can't wait to see it finished. Please do another update.
I love that kitchen with the ladder and everything so gorgeous and that wallpaper. I’m not a big wallpaper person, but it just kind of brings out the old feel of the home kind of a rustic modern design. I love it. I wish my kitchen was that big.
I'm not sure how I overlooked the ornate woodwork from the first episode. It's Amazing! Especially on the staircase! This house has so much character!!
What a beautiful place !! The windows and front door allow for so much light to come in enjoy your home !! It has a lot of work but with help and time it is something that only some people dream of.. and you are living it in this home
Well, she did some incredible renovations. I remember watching the first video and thinking that house must’ve been beautiful. with the renovations, very beautiful home.
What a beautiful home. She has done a lot of work so far! What a gem! Wheeling is definitely an up and coming city once again. Lots of older historic buildings. You can’t replace these!! I live very close to wheeling and appreciate this video. Thank you for sharing! Best of luck in her renovations to this beautiful house!
Truly amazing! Watching this made my heart swell. Your excitement, the editing and the music shows what a labour of love this project is for both you and the homeowner. You both are so brilliant in your chosen passions.
It is absolutely amazing that she has restored this beautiful old lady. Artwork and light fittings are not what I would have chosen for such a grand old dame. Good work.
I loved this! I would definitely like to see you visit and highlight other home renovations around the country. From a real estate point-of-view, I really like seeing the before and after of the property, as well as the actual costs, timeframe, success, and failures of the renovation. Thank you!!!
I grew up in East Wheeling and left Wheeling to go to graduate school in 1971. I have a natural love for architecture from growing up there. I enjoy my visits to the area and drive around Wheeling to reminisce and check out the town. I love your house.
I only watched the house prior to the restorations yesterday, so watching the finished video today is a spin, it looks amazing. My daughter has just got married & I sent her the cheapest houses website yesterday as well, thank you so much.
I love Wheeling! My cousin is a broker in Jersey City and she fell in love with Wheeling back in the mid 2000s. She bought an old (and almost certainly haunted) house on Market St, right across from the market. I've been watching that house ever since she sold it hoping it comes back on the market! My aunt still lives in Wheeling, and I've been wanting to go back to visit ever since that trip in 2007.
The original video was how I discovered your channel and I’m so happy i did. Since then I’ve followed you and Betsy’s journey. I love how the house turned out & I hope you make more videos like these ☺️
For the first time I see the restoration of an American house that I like. I really appreciate the style preserved in every detail according to restoration principles that I usually only see in Italy. Very good with an excellent result
It looks so unique and great 😍 we renovated a house from the 1890s in northern germany and totally get what a time consuming but rewarding process it is.
The long awaited follow-up :) I started following her on IG after your video, been keeping up with the daily updates ever since. Amazing how one video can open up so many opportunities 👍
I was born and raised in Wheeling, not THIS part, and lived there until I was 23. The neighborhood this house is in is the most sketchy, drug infested, dangerous, low income, homeless shelter area in Ohio County. Not trying to burst anyone's bubble but it's where u DO NOT go once it starts getting dark. The upside is the police department is only a couple blocks away, but the hospital close to there closed down, so if u get shot, u have a little ride to the hosp. I'm not exaggerating or being mean. It's 100% facts.
@hsmd4533 it sucks because some of the houses in that park of town were beautiful old Victorian homes. Wheeling was the capital of WV, so the upper crust built huge homes here. There was a booming economy here with lots of industry. Businesses left, coal mines closed, industry shut down, and now it is a different story. Sad, but true
The only thing I'm concerned about is her using wallpaper as a backsplash in the kitchen behind the stove. She reckons the exhaust fan will ensure it's kept clean but I can see it getting absolutely covered in splashes from sauce etc. The tiles in my kitchen are always dirty. She could even put some plexiglass up to protect the paper.
I thk its her identifying herself.. it goes with her nature... so it really doesn't matter hw others sees them.. overall its a huge accomplishment n she can be proud :)

It's nice to see people fixing the old up and not just k.o ing it down
It’s so beautiful and inspiring! Love that she was brave enough to take on this property. It is not only a blessing for her but for the entire neighborhood and town.
It's so amazing to see love for old and vintage! Gorgeous architecture and spectacular remodeling. Loved this!
What city and state did you buy
I love this renovation! I am so glad that you added your style and artistic flair to it. As well, thank you for all you are doing for the community with jumpstarting a revitalization. And thank you for sharing your work!
She did an AMAZING job! I'm so happy you got to go back and make an update video! Can't wait for the other video you have planned!!!
I love her house. I think the bedroom looks so cozy where she put the bed in it’s own little nook
This is an amazing restoration. Such a unique home. Love the decor. It's so eclectic and whimsical...
This house looks amazing and I love that the homeowner made choices of finishes that she knows she will always love and not with what she sees in Vogue...great advice! :)
That was great to see the followup on her house. I think it's looking pretty good for what she done so far. Can't wait to see the town tour too.
I really love how Betsy's hard work shines through in her project.
Omg the style of her renovation is LlFE🍁❤️✨ Thank you for the gorgeous update!!!
My first house was a fixer and her statement about "everything taking longer and costing more than you expect" is absolutely true, and it's even more difficult if you're living there during the process. Congratulations Betsy!! You bring new meaning to the term "sweat equity" and everything so far has turned out beautifully.
I would use the dining room table as my personal office desk (I love it). I have a thing for "wood" desks. I really love them. 🥰🥰
Thank you so much for following up! I just saw the first video this morning, and was wishing I could see a follow up. Love it that in the first video, Besty said "master" bedroom, and in the second video she said primary. Positive change on more than one level.
It is so incredibly neat that she wants to keep on "rehabbing" buildings -what a terrific impact she has had!
I really liked the mixed footage showing before renovations and then after! The structure of her house reminds me of the house in Charmed
I’ve followed Betsy since your first video and I’ve been waiting for this update for so long! Love this
its so sweet how she says “thank you” so genuinely every time you compliment something in the house, she’s so proud and it shows!!
I loooovee the nook for the bed!! Can't wait for part 3
So glad to see people appreciating West VA. It is a beautiful state with good people...
Love the follow up on this! She did a beautiful job on the renovation 😊
Well, she did some incredible renovations. I remember watching the first video and thinking that house must’ve been beautiful. with the renovations, very beautiful home.
It is always interesting to see a house being renovated. I love the wallpaper in the kitchen.
What a huge improvement!! And its amazing that she got so much attention and opportunities from it!
i just bought a 17k home in baltimore and can do the majority of the work myself as a GC and skilled Tradesman. Love this woman's vision!
Great to see young people interested and involved in restoration
My favorite is her bedroom!❤ so much light coming in! This is a humongous undertaking! Amazing job!
I've been following her progress on Instagram and it's been a lot of fun. I'm glad that you did a follow up video on this house.
My father is from Wheeling, WV. He left as a teenager in 1940. Thank you for showing it off!
Truly amazing! Watching this made my heart swell. Your excitement, the editing and the music shows what a labour of love this project is for both you and the homeowner. You both are so brilliant in your chosen passions.
I've been waiting for this update for so long!!!
This is absolutely beautiful. I love anyone that is able to save a gorgeous old home like this. Love that she kept the true character of the house.
The bedroom is chefs kiss!!! Also the dining room!! So obsessed
It's great that people are buying and restoring these old homes, and the country part of moving to a place outside the cities is so awesome!
I was so excited to see how she renovated her house. I love the ladder that she uses to reach the cabinets.
I grew up in East Wheeling and left Wheeling to go to graduate school in 1971. I have a natural love for architecture from growing up there. I enjoy my visits to the area and drive around Wheeling to reminisce and check out the town. I love your house.
What an amazing place! I couldn’t imagine ever leaving such a spectacular house! She is doing such an unbelievable job ❤
I only watched the house prior to the restorations yesterday, so watching the finished video today is a spin, it looks amazing.
My daughter has just got married & I sent her the cheapest houses website yesterday as well, thank you so much.
Great video, Monica! What really amazes me about this project is how much she got done for ~$155K. Looking forward to your Wheeling video.
Awesome video! Please return for a part 3 when the house is 100% complete!
I second the motion! We would like for Monica to return at a later date.
I’m obsessed😍, love old home, so happy she made the effort to preserve the original charm of the house
More videos like this please!!! This was so great to watch, I love victorian restorations 🥰
Pocket doors, stained glass, beautiful woodwork and trim, I LOVE IT!,
It looks so unique and great 😍 we renovated a house from the 1890s in northern germany and totally get what a time consuming but rewarding process it is.
Wow I was hoping to see this place again. The house itself is stunning and amazing work has been done but the decor is … I have no words.
The long awaited follow-up :) I started following her on IG after your video, been keeping up with the daily updates ever since. Amazing how one video can open up so many opportunities 👍
@@franklinstephen3268 Doing just fine, thank you 👍
@@Jeroen74 I’m doing great thanks for responding. Where are you texting from?
This video is very well thought out and edited. The way that the interview was intertwined into the home tour at points of relevance is great
I was born and raised in Wheeling, not THIS part, and lived there until I was 23.
I was wondering about that, thanks for your comment.
The more people who do what Betsy is doing the better the neighborhood will become👌!!! "Let's run um out 'o town Virgil!"😂
Bathrooms are gorgeous, and love the stained glass! Super beautiful house!
Plus the fact that the wallpaper is hideous in this kitchen!
With that few counter space I'm not sure the kitchen is used that much
Or some clear plastic contact paper
Not crazy about that green in upstairs bath
I thk its her identifying herself.. it goes with her nature... so it really doesn't matter hw others sees them.. overall its a huge accomplishment n she can be proud :)
The layered wallpaper is the BEST part of this whole house absolutely love it!
Ahhhhh I’m so happy you did an update! It’s crazy because I literally went back to that video last week hoping to see an update. I found her Instagram and wow it looks so goooood!
