It’s always work to try to explain the environment conditions to other regions 😊 so many different parameters that effects. In my last apartment I grew Draculas and phrags well. In my current apartment: the higher and hotter lover, the better. The catts that hadn’t bloom in my earlier apartment, started blooming here.
Nice blooms 🌸 my paphiopedilum insigne is gifting me 2 flowers and they should be opening soon ❤ I changed my orchids feed to Growth Technology GT orchid focus and GT orchid bloom. Growing in Melbourne I struggled a bit with mine. And now it's like they are on steroids (phal, paphs, dendrobium or oncidium). You should give it a go it's awesome. Thanks for another informative video 👍
Very on point. True, some of them live between rock cracks and takes high light. Such diversity in living situation. Key is I guess to find which ones grow well under each orchid grower’s care.
The death collab 😅 yes, uhm, now there is an idea 😊 So appreciate you for taking the time to join in! Another superb video 😍😍 have a fabulous rest of your day 🥰
I’m glad you said that paphs might not be as low light as we’ve been told. Mine seldom bloomed for years when I gave them the same light as my phalenopsis. For the last year, I have given them as much light as oncidiums and they all bloomed. Mine are the dark green strappy-leaf paphiopedilums that take more light.
I agree about light levels. It’s hard to really understand but they love light. My paphs were getting leggy in phal light and really took off once i bumped them way up. My pharg pearcii loved light too.
Thanks Matthew for the video. Yes, you definitely need patience with these orchids. I have 5 paphs, all immature so no flowers yet but they are all growing well. My multi floral paph (I think about 5-6 years 9old now) may be my first plant to flower, I hope. I agree they like higher light. Mine all live outside all year round on my verandah- Hervey Bay here. 😀
I love your videos and breakdowns! I’ve recently fell in love with yellow flowers. I was extremely distracted by that beautiful bloom in the foreground 😅
Hi Mathew that yellow bloom are gorgeous 🤩 thank you for informative video. I'm glad you joined the care Collab ❤ Have a great day stay safe and happy growing 🥰
Hello! Just found your channel as I am venturing into the world of Orchids and love slipper Orchids 😊 Hope I wouldn't go down the rabbit hole of Orchids 😅 you just got a new subscriber from Singapore 🇸🇬 😀
I am just learning about orchids and I really love watching and learning from your video's BUT I will never be able to say the names of these beautiful plants. i am amazed when they just roll off your tongue..
Great information! I am confused a bit about using slow release fertilizer cause I have been told low ppm. Flush flush flush. My Phragmipedium Hanne Popow is leggy. But I have her in high oncidium light. She is a hard one to understand. Maybe I haven't just found her care niche in my environment, or I have a bad genetic plant. 🤷♀️
Love those bright yellow sunshine blooms ❤ Great information for all three. I think I may try the cypripedium here in Colorado. Going to look 👀 into the care a bit further. In the meantime, what are your thoughts 💭? 🌸
Not sure about your exact climate but there is a species native to your state - Cypripedium parviflorum - so I'm sure there are hybrids out there you could try? Good luck! Treat them as a woodland perennial in a moist dappled light spot.
I also have my Paphiopedilums next to my Cattleyas. They do receive lower light though. Concerning your fertilizer routine: What's worm juice? Or did I mishear?
Ha! No you didn't - its the run off from worm 'farms'! It's the brown, highly nutrient rich liquid that is collected from worm composting bins. Great on all plants really.
I just bought this paph...Paphiopedilum Paph Kolopakingii var Topperi '' x Greyi Alba Plant 0921 The plant came with dried out limp leaves. The potting mix was completely dry and all roots dry and hard... What should I do? Its a big one with 18" wing span and 2 mature growths.
Well all I would do is pot it up and give it a soak with a Seasol or other seaweed based tonic in dilution and sprinkle in a little mycorrhizal fungus to help stimulate the roots: biostim.com.au/shop/myco-gold/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAgqGrBhDtARIsAM5s0_kFHG4hRoFo6j-BLEFEQ6RqorlatcC0i0cFFZqQdJy2u_ePHLTXqy0aAsmREALw_wcB Good luck!

I'm almost giving up on Cattleyas!
@@helloplantlovers I have given up with most of the dendrobiums 😄

Their pouch reminds me more of a Dutch clog ... Clog orchids 🤔🤭

Thanks for watching! Yes...some!

Good to know! Thanks for watching!
Great info Matthew! I agree Paphs need more light. I need to look into the garden lime. Thanks for all the tips!

Well thanks for finding me - you're in a GREAT climate for growing orchids!
That cypripedium might grow outdoors year round here in Texas. Ill check it out.
Good luck! It manages Melbourne's summer heat very well.

Thanks for watching - I have to practice!!!
Look !t it from the side, that is the angle that shows the slipper form.
Ah!

Thanks for watching! I think Phrags can be a bit strappy - but I only have one seedling so I'm no expert! But mine seems happy enough and is growing!

Wow - that's good to know!
