Funny that you mentioned lil nas x there was a lot of controversy about him copying her he even had to apologise publicly for it. Twigs is the kind of artist who pushes boundaries and sets trends but doesn't get credit for it

Nobody has responded to your analysis yet, so I will. This song is the closing track for her album Magdalene, about the dissolution of her relationship with Robert Pattinson (Twilight vampire dude, new The Batman). You hit the nail on the head. He was higher profile than her, and toxic Twilight stans wanted Robert Pattinson to date his co-star Kirsten Stewart. They harassed Twigs online, calling her racist slurs, and Robert Pattinson never addressed the vitriol publicly. This ended up making Twigs feel isolated and hollow. The relationship was her giving and giving, but not receiving. She also had ovarian cysts around this time, and wanted nothing more than support from her partner, but he was always gone ("when you're gone, I have no one to tell"). The song can be boiled down to one-sided high-profile love in the spotlight and skewed power dynamics in such a relationship. Before she started the relationship, Twigs was a signed artist, but very much indie. It's comparable to Grimes dating Elon Musk. She already had training in dancing before her music career, and had done backup dancing in music videos (e.g. Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke), but she learned pole dancing for a year just for this video, which is incredible dedication. It makes perfect sense for the concept. She's performing for an audience she cannot see, touches something generally beyond her grasp, falls as a result, and hits rock bottom when getting smeared with mud (clay, in this case) and in pain. What sucks is that her following relationship with Shia Labeouf was really abusive, what with him stranding her at a gas station, locking her in a room when she tried to leave him, drinking heavily, all kinds of shit. You should react to her music video for "Sad Day" from the same album. The choreography is really cool, and quite shocking ;-P

Great explanation. It's sad when complete strangers (her fans) felt more compelled to defend her than someone who was supposed to love and protect her. Those "fans" of his were brutal and for no good reason.

The story of Icarus. Greek mythology. In short you could be riding so high and things are so good that you feel like you're untouchable. But then you fly too close to the Sun. Life can just smack you in the face. And all of the sudden drop you down to hell. Metaphorically.
