I heard a theory that each monster represents mental disorders/fears Noodle: Claustrophobia (from being shipped in a FedEx crate twice), PTSD (the El Mañana incident), and anxiety. That’s probably why her monster wouldn’t give her any personal space nor privacy. Russel: has insomnia, sleep paralysis, and the fear of being possessed again, that’s why his monster holds him still in the bed. Murdoc: the fear of genuinely being happy without relying on vices like drugs, alcohol, and kinky sex, due to being abused by his father growing up. This is why he looks like he’s having the time of his life, but in reality he was terrified. 2D: from the way the video portrayed it, he most likely has bulimia nervosa. This can be supported since he has anxiety, was constantly abused by Murdoc, and had a lot of traumatic events in his life. He originally turned to abusing his painkillers to deal with his pain, but those painkillers also killed his appetite… so his weight also gave him a new source of control when he felt like there was almost no control and probably started off as an anorexic in the earlier phases. Eventually he was taken off the painkillers, and the withdrawals can included increased anxiety, and appetite coming back in a vengeance. However by that time he was taken off painkillers, he was already known as the Pretty Boy Frontman singer for the gorillaz, and with his increased appetite, he still had to maintain his “pretty boy” image, which probably led to him developing purging behaviors. Ik it’s a cartoon, but it sorta makes sense in the later phases, 2D is always eating something, he’s also the only one in the group that’s clinically underweight (with the only exceptions being phase 1 when the band started. Also he looked healthy in Phase 5 when Murdoc got locked up), yet he’s in his 40s (noodle is the only one that ages in the group but still), it would be predictable if his character gained weight from all that food, but he never seems too. Also it could explain why his teeth always seem to get worse and worse with each phase. While sure, he lost the first few when Murdoc crashed his car, 2D went flying out the window and essentially gave 2D an 8 ball injury (which doesn’t make you blind btw), so he might have lost a few teeth from there. However his teeth keep getting worse throughout each phase. Also 2D is based off the creator Damon Alburn, and Alburn has opened up about having an eating disorder when he was younger as well, so it’s possible that 2D is or was secretly struggling himself as a character. That’s why he was attacked by food. + if you pay attention to the lyrics, the song is literally about giving into vices, and going broke from a gambling addiction as well. Which supports the theory that this video could be about each bands members Vice/fears/mental issues they struggle with. Also great reaction btw 💜

Honestly you might end up liking it if you give it another listen cuz a lot of people, including myself, while listening to a Gorillaz song for the first time, you might not like it at first but after a few more listens to the song they always say how they love it. But of course some songs aren't for everyone

My take on the eyes: So as others have said, 2d has 8ball fractures on both eyes, so they're usually black. In the Gorillaz universe, blank white eyes are usually associated with ghostly possession. Therefore, 2d is possessed in the Humility video, Russell tripped him because he recognized the signs (he has previous experience, hence his own white eyes). The ghost leaves 2d after the trip, putting him back to his usual black-eyed nervous self.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school here in North Carolina when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend at the time and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife did the same thing during that time period as well. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then compared to today. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (28-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

I grew up listening to this kind of music. Graduated from high school in June of 1973. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, and a few others were popular amongst my friends and others. These bands and musicians were not really "top 40" types of bands. I really disliked much of pop music at the time. This, here, is what stayed with us over the course of our lives. I'm 70 years old now. I still love listening to this. The feeling, emotion, are still as fresh now as it was back then. Yes, we were blessed to have lived during this time in music history. I've seen Jimi Hendrix come along, Woodstock, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. Then Aerosmith, Boston and so many others. The old Blues musicians like B. B. King, Albert King and then Stevie Ray Vaughan. I only wish I would have had time to really savor all of them. Time just moved too quickly with family and career or just surviving this crazy world. My advice to you is to always take time to savor all music you hear. It makes your life so much richer. Good job, my friend. Keep it up and just be yourself. Enjoy the ride you've started. Keep the music alive.

I`ve been listening to pink floyd since 1965 ! hard to believe there are people who have never listened to them ! they quit in 2005 , but there is at least one pink floyd tribute band that comes damned close to the real thing , the australian pink floyd ! look em up !
