    Happy anniversary. Wife Georgia and I hit seven years and tested our relationship to destruction being our own general contractor for first home.
    Wallpapered walls together sealed the deal that we were keepers for each other. That was 40 years ago; still together.
    I’d say you are “ keepers” too. Good luck.

    Do you have a grate in your new log burner? If not, at some point the heat with burn through the bottom of your log burner (your grate is your sacrificial metal). Huge apologies if you have, but rather give the advice than you come a cropper. Boat is looking great guys, you should be proud of yourselves.

    At one point (might not have been this exact video) I heard Joe say "measure twice, cut once". My dad who was apprenticed as a joiner in 1946 always used to say that. Used to get me holding the end of boards he was sawing when I was little. The other one he used to say was "when I nod my head, you hit it".

    Hi guys another great vlog.
    The bed looks great but I would suggest a couple more support beams under the bed ply base. I know 18mm ply is strong but over such a wide opening it will definitely sag over time, even if it was only one beam across the middle it would help prevent any movement. Otherwise I think it looks fantastic.

    Happy anniversary and the boat looks great. If you ever have another nut
    situation like you had at the 4:20 mark you can put a small pair of vice-grips
    on the nut to hold it while you twist the bolt from the other side. Vice grips
    are always my tool of last resort since it is sooooo easy to mess things
    up with them.
    Also, if you ever need to drill a bunch of big holes ever again you can always
    use a bit of liquid hand soap to make it easier. A drop or two around the outside
    can help a bit. Great job.

    With time…you could think of widening the sleep area of your bed by installing a folding leaf on one side of the bed. With a “futon” and memory foam combo …. You simply slide the extra width up against the wall during the day and fold the leaf down. Presto … a day bed for reading and resting. That extra foot or so in width makes a huge difference in comfort.
    All the best. Cheers 🥂

    • @ItsOhJoe
      @ItsOhJoe  2 роки тому

      Yes a really good idea - someone we met in the marina had an extra bit of ply and essentially slid their mattress away from the wall which helped as well!

    • @presspound7358
      @presspound7358 2 роки тому

      @@ItsOhJoe Glad you might be able to use this simple system. Just to add clarity to my suggestion… I was imagining for you… a drop leaf on to one side of the bed which when flipped up is secured by pivoting supports which disappear within the bed frame during the day. The leaf folds down and takes up no room safe for the thickness of the ply. The leaf can be affixed to the frame by using three to four ordinary hinges or ….if you wish a well priced piano hinge.
      Happy Holidays to you and yours

    It’s looking great. I often wonder watching narrow boat restorations, how much weight is added to the empty shell of a narrow boat. How much weight is too much? I’ve never seen it mentioned in any vlog, maybe it don’t matter! 😂

    • @ItsOhJoe
      @ItsOhJoe  2 роки тому

      So traditionally they were constructed simply for carrying massive loads & no doubt were constantly running up and down the country fully loaded (even over loaded) - a fully fitted narrowboat now shouldn’t come anywhere near to a full load of coal for example. The main worry would be the draft or distance between the bottom of the boat and the bottom of the canal but that would vary between boat. Bit of a guessing game I’d assume!

    Guys I think you might want to rethink your air inlet for your diesel heater. It has the potential to suck diesel fumes in from the exhaust. They tend to smoke a little on start up. You could draw the air inlet from inside the boat so as the boat warms up it'll reduce the effort on the heater and make it more efficient.

      Getting a bit of conflicting info on the air inlet, can see both sides of the argument. I guess less condensation vs more efficient.

    Love the progress you are making. Starting to look like a boat. I wouldn’t have put the log burner in though. They are dirty. The diesel heaters are brilliant. Joe, you are doing a great job.

      Why are they dirty? I have one and they are fine, diesel stinks.

      We are really loving the log burner, we had a diesel heater in our van and got on well so have the best of both worlds.

    Hi guys.. Love your videos & always watching to see what's next & how you did stuff. My gf has just bought a 45ft 1989 narrowboat & we have completely gutted it (soon to also be a vlog) but was wondering what heater did you use in the engine bay... So much choice & opinions around was wondering what you chose as the installation doesn't look too bad to do

      Ahh what a lovely project! So we went with (unconventionally) an air heater as that’s what we used in the van and it was really simple compared to a radiator system. In the van we used an Eberspacher D2 and the boat we used the Webasto Airtop 2000 (essentially the same just different brands). To install on a boat you’ll need a couple of different bits - copper fuel line (might have some of this left over that you’ll be welcome too if it’s any use), a hull exhaust outlet and some exhaust insulation. Then depending on how far you want the heat to travel you’ll need a decent roll of the ducting, we used a 10m coil as the interior of our boat is only 10m, plus any outlet fittings for venting off into separate rooms. If you pop us an email danniandjoetravel@gmail.com I’ll pop some links back to you for a shopping list if you like.

Oh okay I was thinking the same things tbh. Yes we want to go Air heater as well as our log burner as we are limited on space.
      Really? That's much appreciated il drop you a line. Would be lovely to get some advice and chat. Many a time I have watched and rewatched your videos to understand things (sorry not sorry). That would be epic. No quite there yet as we are currently doing the ballast and redoing the floor but any help especially form you guys is greatly appreciated.

    Do yourself a favour, put some sound dampening material like Rockwool or similar inside those panels!

      We debated it but thought it would block any heat the fire gives off from entering the bathroom? Might’ve made the wrong decision but we’ll see 😂 there’s not much we haven’t heard in our relationship

    I’m starting from the beginning and I’m sure you have already figured this out but if not you put the intake for the cabin air 2 feet from the exhaust pipe oops.
