    Try using a ‘centre drill’ for starting holes - they are short and stubby so don’t tend to flex, and invest in a good brand of drills. Been an engineer all my working life and have found Draper to be among the best. All looking good, love the clouds.

      Ahh thank you! Need to add one to the tool kit. I used to use Reisser drill bits but the more I use ant others off the shelf I realise they’re nothing special. Will give Draper a go next time I re fill the toolbox

    Well done, getting there you two. What a summer you will have on the boat.
    Drilling in iron, invest in good drillbits. And cool it while drilling. Most simpel is a bit off oil with water mixed. Learned that the hard way, after throwing away many many drillbits.

Nice colour co-ordination. Joe you are amazing with everything you touch, this week, more with the electrics. And you both have the time to tell us what you are doing. Another great Vlog. Danni and Joe great job as usual.Just a little piece of advice on your car rental there are some companies not all,that in a attempt to line there pockets has a rule that you have to have the receipt to your last top off before returning the car.Forget that all you have to do is turn the key and clearly see its full oh no if you dont have that receipt theres like a 20.00$ surcharge.Just be aware of this little scam and keep that time and date stamped receipt.

    This is my first time watching your channel.
    It's fascinating to watch someone as young as yourself doing such good work on so many different jobs, especially electrical things.
    As to the car rental here in the US, the main hidden cost is insurance. I don't know if you can get an affidavit from your own insurance there saying that they will cover rental insurance here or not, but if so, do. Whether the rental agency here will accept it may be a problem. In the past I've found the insurance to cost more than the rental.
    Good luck and stay safe and well.

    Have you connected the charge controller to the boat side or battery side of the maIn battery isolator?
    All charging circuits should be on the battery side through their own fuse.
    The reason being that if connected wrong, when you turn your battery isolator off the charge controller will still be feeding your 12v circuits.
    I'm sure you have done it correctly but difficult to tell from the video.

    The swans aren't fighting, they are getting amorous, its that time of year for swans to get together. Why leave an overhang on both ends, you could have done from one side and had a more useful longer off cut.

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  2 роки тому +1

      Ahh didn’t think about breeding! Kinky. So both ends need cutting at a funny angle to follow the line of the boat, I wanted to leave a piece either end that I could get my hand on to steady it whilst I use the grinder but wasn’t sure when I’d next bring it over so also didn’t want to leave one side too long incase we moored somewhere else before cutting it

  • @chiefvince4689
    @chiefvince4689 2 роки тому +1

    Love how it's coming along... But, I hate to tell you, it's bad news using aluminum on a steel boat like you did on the bow. The dissimilar metals will cause the steel around that area to really start to rust FAST... Just look at old cars with aluminum wheel, and door trims.... it acts just like how a would battery works, and the steel is the loser... Big up with the stream you two ! ... I enjoy your postings...

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  2 роки тому

      Need to do more research on galvanic corrosion as keep using aluminium! 😫 I thought it only affected the charging system, we’ve got a galvanic isolator but guessing that won’t fix the problem 😂

  • @annclark5082
    @annclark5082 2 роки тому

    I can't help wondering why you left an overhang at both sides of the boat with the angle bar (or whatever that is called) Why didn't you put one edge at the edge of the boat and then cut one end off? I am totally confused but I bet there is a very good sensible reason ☺️

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  2 роки тому

    Is that Angle Iron/steel or Aluminium? If it is Aluminium I would keep a close eye on it due to galvanic corrosion. It will save the boats steel but the aluminium will basically turn to powder over time. It is how the sacrificial anodes under the water work.

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  2 роки тому +1

      I need to learn more about galvanic corrosion as didn’t know it could effect things not in the charging system! It is aluminium so may swap out for steel, is that why the aluminium solar brackets will also need isolating with grommets?

    • @Falney
      @Falney 2 роки тому

      @@DanniandJoe yup. It will probably be fine to leave it as it is for now, it isn't a fast process when electrolysis isn't in the question. It will probably be fine for a few years, but it is definitely something that you need to keep an eye on.
