FYI 200 series cruiser was on 12 psi and camper at 16 psi when it got bogged. FJ cruiser was on 10 psi all the time. 200 series and camper = 5.500kg FJ cruiser = 2000kg combine this with soft sand and up a hill. (it wasn't going to happen but thought we give it a go anyway.) When winching 200 series and camper ,aired tyres down to 8 psi all round (camper included). As for the campboss recovery gear, it was all band new never been used before. It was the band new campboss soft shackel the gave up.
A little hint to the Patrol trayback, Older Patrol wagon, and Troopie... if you can't easily get moving on your own, you will NEVER be able to get enough momentum to strap someone else out. 10 points for enthusiasm though LOL. Admittedly the Troopie was doing well at first... but should have never tried to strap out the Prado before realising the Prado drive didn't know how to strap out.
No expert but if that were me towing that trailer in hellish conditions I’d whack a hub set up on the draw bar with a spare wheel. In sections like that at least you could unhitch, drive up and winch the trailer. With a couple of winch extension straps you’d be out in no time - saves the sort of forces you see here that could wreck your chassis. I don’t let anyone snatch me unless I’m desperate......and I wouldn’t be desperate enough here.

I was originally thinking his tyres were too low, but if he had them at 12 and the camper at 16, that was a reasonable assumption that it would be ok. However, after he was towed to harder ground, he was seen letting his tyres down even more, before he continued (successfully) on his way. That snatch strap HAD to give in though. I don't think they were meant to do that.(sorry, the Soft shackle) .I must remember that. I plan on going up there in the not too distant future. I'd probably go to 6 at the rocks. I know !!...it's always easy to be wise AFTER the event. That's why I watch these....to learn.

Yes every product has its lemons, and some might say I mistreated it (I did not), but I wouldn't be the first person to question its quality. Buy once, buy right and support locally made where/when you can.
I got my island fix in the 90's and glad of it. Crowds, lineups and muppets don't make for a relaxing holiday. In saying that we rocked the blue singlets, carried all our gear in the back seat of a dual cab and loaded 5 layers of cans in the tray.

The 120 eventually did the job. I love mine ( touch wood ) but it has the 2.7 litre VVTi engine. Don’t do much 4 wheel driving, but a lot of highway runs with it. Over 110,000 KMs on the clock, burns some oil ( ever since I bought it in 2014 ) but gets the job done. I love how it rides on the highway.
I actually think he would've made far more progress with less throttle. I did Ngkala in my 2017 Hilux - oem tyres with barely 1/4 throttle - low range, rear diff lock.....then I saw people absolutely sending it, getting buried to the rails. I guess pulling an anchor behind you is another challenge
So many people in the comments have an amazing ability to be able to tell what a tire pressure is just from looking at it in a video 🤔 Cause of course weight and the heat of the sand has nothing to do with it, it’s ALWAYS tire pressure apparently
The lowest I’ve ever been was years ago on the track going down to the creek north of Wathumba . The track back up the dunes was awesome. Had my tyres down to 8psi

Driving on sand is what makes a 4WD work the hardest. Add a trailer or worse, a caravan into the mix, its no wonder so many get into difficulty, as in bogged. Leave your trailers and caravans at home. Towing in deep soft sand is not real smart. If you like towing an anchor behind you, then l guess, go for it.
The only type of recovery I'd do here is to winch people back towards the bottom and set their tyre pressures right. What's the point of dragging them all the way up? They have to come back this way to go home too. So what? They just wait around for someone to drag them all the way back too? If you set their tyres to 5psi and they somehow still can't drive it it's probably better they don't keep going.
when its hot the sand will be soft, If you can, try to do those hard tracks when its cooler, early morning or late arvo, and yes tyre pressure is important
Make sure you get the twists out of your snatch strap before connection. Twists on tension decreases the load rating of the sling, and there already dangerous. Take it upon yourself to study some basic rigging.

No one has the best idea. The best and easiest way to snatch in soft sand is to build ramps out of the sand like the have, but also to wet it and pack it down. Makes a huge difference. Same thing for the fj as well. But really an fj doesn’t have the best chances of snatching a 200 and a trailer
Pull back down to the start for a 2nd go ensuring low tyres pressures, 2nd gear low and a boot full. Recovering from the main boggy section a waste of time! Been here, done that!

I was once passed that place straight to sandy cape. Ngkala is legend. It may look easy but it’s really hard to do it. Lot’s of UA-cam researches how to get through. Some get bug for not choosing right gears i mean drive gear, and of course forget to disable permanently traction control. Read your car manual. Most of all tire pressure. It very fun passing that place. Been there 3x. 2019 2x. 2021 1x. Looking forward this December 2021.
Also the guy who runs in @ 28:20 to push the Hilux from the middle, trips and almost ends up with leg under the front wheel... and mates pushing between the cars. One falls over, and the Prado would just drive over the top, not seeing anyone behind. Mindless!

Yep..another CAMPBOSS heading for the CAMPFIRE!!🔥😠 Anyone know if that was a 8t or 14t recovery rope or...another soft shackle?? (looks like its black..so guessing it's their big heavy 14T rope..but exceeding the 14t load??) Should put all of these in a CAMPbox and send them back to CAMP Jase at All 4 Adventure in his own gift pack since this is the 5th I've seen let go now in less than 2 years!! ummm. the soft shackle let go not the rope by the looks. and most likely because it was used on a recovery point with straight cut corners not rounded.
no this is quite far up the island away from the main crowds, notoriously soft sand and it's uphill. Letting some more air out never hurts though right!!
The easiest and best way in the sand is to make the (tire pressure PSi) 15PSI, and the car will run easily and without damage to the engine and gearbox, in the long run.
alot of these cars probs have aired down already. They are in heavy cruisers filled with camping gear on a hillclumb with super soft sand and only 1 line up. its inevitable people will get bogged here

i think towing adds a significant challenge. That sand is incredibly soft you can see it with people waking.
by airing down the non-powered wheel this create even more drag, and bog down more.
Should of dropped 200 to 8 or 10 and camper flat like 6 wouldn't of hurt anything making it look hard
@@Francois_Dupont in my experience lowering the trailer pressure helps in soft sand as the dead weight has more surface area to float over the sand.

It's still ok if you go when all the crowds aren't there. Tailor fishing now is the best it's been in many years. Not sure why it's got better again.

Yep, when you send it, you just dig deeper holes so that when you do finally stop, you are buried to the axles. Slow and steady wins the race…

I think as it gets hotter in the day, the heat in the tires pushes the pressure up. The sand also becomes more slippery.

this bypass is savage. i recall seeing suzuki sierras with highway 31 inch tyres walk up. but weight has a huge penalty with this long soft slope.

This patrol at 23.30 had these big fat tyres and they were at 25psi. down them down to 10 psi or even lower.

no this is quite far up the island away from the main crowds, notoriously soft sand and it's uphill. Letting some more air out never hurts though right!!

The easiest and best way in the sand is to make the (tire pressure PSi) 15PSI, and the car will run easily and without damage to the engine and gearbox, in the long run.

alot of these cars probs have aired down already. They are in heavy cruisers filled with camping gear on a hillclumb with super soft sand and only 1 line up. its inevitable people will get bogged here
