I've driven up that little hill in a 1964 kombi with an open diff , I can't under stand the logic of not letting tyres down because it might damage them but it's ok to risk thousands of bucks worth of driveline components plus the cost of recovery from Fraser .
Another classic vid. Just goes to show how many people with 4x4 that have no idea how to drive. When one person drives from the water all the way up the hill and out in reverse he has the correct tyre pressure and in low range. That just proves how easy it is.
more like he was worried it wouldn't make it going forwards so reversed up. most 4wds go better in reverse on sand which is a good thing, if you get bogged going forwards you can always reverse out. unless you're a muppet that spins the wheels until it's buried to the frame lol.

@@Dags470 oh i have no doubt, but saying what hes doing is what you should do in all 4x4s on sand will land you in more trouble than not. What works for him wont work for everyone.
I think it needs to be said that letting your tires down from 40psi (road pressures what ever) to 20psi is not "LETTING YOUR TIRES DOWN" for soft sand like this situation. Letting them down to 12psi or 10psi is letting your tires down...

01:20 - is that vehicle really build for these types of driving? that looks like a city driving SUV. Sorry I can be wrong here but not the tyre, suspension or anything on it looks to be suited for this terrain.
@SaltyBrains Exactly. See so many people that think power is the answer on sand when it's actually the problem. At least they are a constant source of amusement.
Sheit aggressive Mud Tyres that are designed to BITE DEEP and full pressure tyres - what do you expect (most of these cars have em). The Tyre treads will do their job and dig down looking for hard surface traction, but in sand its a dumbass idea as they will dig, get the diffs and suspension buried - and day is done unless some kind person comes and rescues you. I just find it strange and weird - these mud tyres can do it but only at 10-15 psi to make the footprint much like a broad snow ski psi. Most of these cars are full tyre pressure and can be seen. You should be able to do this hill mid range power and control if you have your tyres and pressures sorted
I can never understand why people run near normal tyre pressures. Sure, running 10-15psi will eventually separate the tyre carcase and tread, but if only on the beach it saves a lot of hassle (I always felt the safety was worth the risk). I've had a few tyres separate and bubble, but to my mind that's what spare tyres are for. Low pressures are at minimum 100-200% better at preventing bogging on soft sand. The second biggie is to drive like a hoon on the tricky stuff as "momentum" is your friend. Low range is useless.
