Water is getting into the top of the engine around the spark plugs, it's a common fault on alot of fords, Fiesta, focus etc, water leaks threw the washer jets on the bonnet when it rains. It drip's down onto the rocker cover and goes down the into the channel where the plugs are located. This then fills up with water and causes what you are seeing rusty plugs, leads and misfires. You can get new washer jets with a rubber gasket on them to correct the issue from ford. My 06 plate fiesta had the same issue!. Fitted the new washer jets with the rubber gaskets, plugs and leads, problem fixed.
This was like everytime I went to work on a car when I got started (not comparing you to beginner me there by the way, just that every job I used to try and do would have something like out of this video in!!) Now anything that gives me trouble or is too much of a job without a ramp or will be quicker and cheaper to have done I have connections for as you say some things you just can’t take on without a ramp because it’s not economically viable for the customer I guess and sometimes too difficult for even the best mechanics without the correct tools. For me I won’t do something that will take me 10 hours when I can pay £100 to have it done in 1/2 hours. Time is money. I rebuild category cars (before it was UA-cam popular) and have a list as long as my arm of what I won’t buy and why, most of it being something in the region of similar things in this video. Great work again lads, wish you were near me I’d definitely give you a shout!
Diagnosing and repairing those kinds of High End Cars definitely differentiates you guys from the Normal Mechanics simply bcoz those cars are difficult to repair if you don't know what your doing, keep up the good works you guys never stop learning something new and different everyday, thanks for sharing your videos
I love this channel. It proves any 12 year old can make a business after school. Also, how did your 10 year old brother grow a moustache ? Seriously. Respect!!
5:40 - finding the wiring problem is the hardest part. Repairing that loom is VERY easy and often baffles me that people can somehow get it wrong. Get some practice in soldering wires (use adhesive shrink) and you are off to a start. All you need to do sometimes is chop out the "faulty" part of the wire and solder in a new piece, making sure it is the same gauge (or bigger)
I did fix the loom…? 🤷🏽♂️ Anywa, what I wanted out of that job really is to use the new loom provided and to re-pin everything but that would take more time than what was given to us. Shame really that I didn’t get to do it because: 1. I don’t have the tool to de-pin that connector 2. I did not have a new connector (obsolete from JLR) as the old one was clearly broken 3. Not enough time to investigate which wire goes to what PIN number etc. Information from Haynes and AllData was limited as I’ve explained in the video 😭
I rarely find a positive comment from anyone dealing with later model Range Rover's. JLR really need to look at their business model in my opinion. Great work on the other vehicles as always.. Remember , you can't win them all but you give your customers sound advice and that's priceless theses days.
At this point I just like the video before it even starts. I know it's gonna be good already. I appreciate your professionalism and lack of corner cutting.
I would suggest the Merc owner gets the leaking oil coolers sorted first, then have everything else cleaned off. Big oil leaks at the front of the engine can cause oil to be blown back over everything else, making it hard to tell what is, and what is not leaking. That sump gasket may be ok. Lots of respect for the work you do - out in the elements, no nice car lift, yet you always get the jobs done. 👍👍
As you say, everyday is a learning day. Saying that, how long can you really spend learning when you need to get on with other jobs. Win some lose some, as long as you win more than you lose! Love the videos!
Thanks for coming around guys. I did think it would be a challenge as I have not had any good comments on semin-autos. Will take your advice and book it in the main dealership. Wish me luck 😂
Ran into this exact issue on a complete harness melt, caused by a $1 stereo install, on a two-year-old BMW 328i. Harness wasn't available at the OEM, so I had to grab a used one from the previous year. I had to add several additional circuits to the harness. It was a freaking nightmare job.

That time of the week again yes !!!! Always a mission to fix modern cars . Shame to scrap the focus. Respect from shropshire . No idea why people buy ranges
Common problem on the mk2 focus, water leaks down through the windscreen washer jets straight into the top where the plugs sit, clear water and change plugs and job done.
We had the leak from the washer jets , corroded the plugs in and cylinder head had to come off, the garage should have replaced core plug then but didn't , a few years later the core plugs started leaking otherwise has been a good car, 20 yr old and still going ok ( touch wood!)
I feel your pain, I wrecked one of those ball joints about a month ago, it went on half way loosely then bound up so tight I had to put a torch on it to get it back out.
Great mechanics and make even hard jobs look easy but i am sure with the uk weather there are days and perhaps even weeks when your job is a nightmare, well done and best of luck.
I brought a set of Jom adjustable drop links for my Renault Twingo RS last year and while fitting them the threads did the same thing with what felt like 10-20 lb-ft of pressure. Probably came from the same factory
I used to have that mitsubishi colt. Those actuators failed regularly. I went through 2-3 of them. If that new part is under warranty they should just change that. I opened one up once. The internals are made of plastic. If im correct, its the same gearbox found in the original Smart car.
I had exactly the same job on a Focus. The plugs had only done 156k miles 😅. Full of rust under the cover. I assumed it was condensation, same as a Golf I had.
Wow... The Focus with water in the spark plug area.. Have seen that before. If that was a Volvo with the same engine it would have a cover on top of the ht leads.
I'm shocked in him saying to repair the core plugs worth more than the car is worth! Core plugs and rocker gasket are about 12 quid and 30 quid takes 30 mins Unless a bolt snaps
I had a ford focus with sparks like that. Turns out the window washers were leaking down into the engine bay. Bit of silicon on the underside of the washers sorted it.

What a cheek your customer has by saying they would still want to get the land rover wireing fixed properly when you fixed the problem. I am sure you would have repaired it properly, had he taken it to the dealership it would be sitting outside at the back for six months and many so called specialists are not much better than dealerships when it comes to saving a customer time and money.

It’s the water jets on the bonnet leaking on the focus
Common for the cold (core) plug to go on these and no defo not the water jets on this one but admittedly, I have come across that before
I was going to say the same thing. Water jets did mine on an 06. New engine fitted and new rubber jets.
