- On Saturday May 30th filmmaker and photographer David Jones of David Jones Media felt compelled to go out and serve the community in some way. He decided to use his art to try and explain the events that were currently impacting our lives. On day two, Sunday the 31st, he activated his dear friend author Kimberly Jones to tag along and conduct interviews. During a moment of downtime he captured these powerful words from her and felt the world couldn’t wait for the full length documentary, they needed to hear them now.
Kimberly Jones gave 500 years of education in less than 7 mins. Thanks for sharing
Yes👏🏽She👏🏽Did👏🏽
Omg she really did. She took YEARS and YEARS of conversations my mother had with me about Tulsa and everything else and said it all in a few minutes. You hit the nail on the head
Imagine that! But we will NEVER read about that in the history books they forced on us and on our children! White washed EVERYTHING
This is exactly right. This video should be shown in all American schools.
Yes👏🏾👏🏾Yes👏🏾👏🏾a job well done!
I'm happy they showed her hugging her family. Because people are so quick to assume that black people raise their voice they are threatening and unreasonable. But the reality is, that took every ounce of her to stay composed and share the truth. I hope this shows to people how black people just want a fucking fair chance, and for centuries only black people understood that.
Agreed. Seeing the powerful vulnerability, righteous anger and frustration followed by the real human connection of a hug really helps. It shouldn't be needed but it humanizes and contextualizes this person.

Found this due to John Oliver's segment. That is the angriest crying I've done in a while. Thank you for capturing this and thank Kimberly for speaking truth to power.
In the same vein there's a great interview of Margaret Kimberley ua-cam.com/video/EwJzASNL4SM/v-deo.html

I don't remember the last time I cried like this. I just sat back and let the tears come. This is important though. We need to let ourselves feel this pain so that we can get through this.
Everyone in America needs to hear this.
Everyone in the World needs to hear this!
@Robert Michael your very much part of the problem then
Kudos to John Oliver for showing a big clip of this on his show.
Not only in America. Allover the world.
Why is this tagged as “restricted material”? The hard truth isn’t offensive. It’s essential.
Jessica Baxter WOW, guess we may offended someone.

Amen sister. God bless you. ❤🙏🏾😔
I've been watching this video for 4 years now. Just as powerful and prophetic every damn time.
My thoughts exactly.
Me, too. I look at it every few months.
"You forced to play on behalf of the person you playing against."....let it sink
That shit hurts and dehumanizes people !!! Yet black people still rise !!!
I'm a white person that--until now--thought myself to be a relatively intelligent, decently-learned person that paid attention in history classes. Incidents like Tulsa and Rosewood were never mentioned, or even hinted at. I've heard of white mobs and race riots previously, back in the post-Civil War era, but not these, so...I looked them up. For those, like me, who don't know what Ms. Jones is referring to, the TLDR is this: Tulsa was quite literally bombed from above by private airplanes because that's where well-to-do black people lived, and Rosewood, in a _completely separate incident in another state,_ was burned out of existence by roaming white mobs from surrounding towns for Reasons. No one tried to rebuild/repopulate after it was burned to the ground.
No one, in either incident, faced charges.
In Tulsa, it took nearly 80 years for officials to even _launch an investigation_ into the event.
No investigation was ever made for Rosewood. (Edit: Apparently there was an investigation into Rosewood. I misread. It only took 60 years instead of 80.)
I'm disgusted. Viscerally, deeply _enraged_ that not only these things happened, that these things were so easily swept under the rug and forgotten about by white folks. White people in power, the school boards and the cops and the politicians, they don't talk about it, because it admits culpability, because it "causes racial tension." _Murdering a town full of black people causes racial tension._ Why the _fuck_ is this not being openly discussed? Why the fuck can't us white people look at the atrocities that our ancestors wrought and say, "That was wrong, we need to fundamentally change"?
My words may mean nothing, but: That was wrong. We need to fundamentally change. The whole fucking system needs to fundamentally change. Our inaction is killing people. Has _already_ killed scores of people.
I've been trying to see a way of societal reform beyond complete structural collapse since the 10th grade--twenty years ago--but at this stage...shit, maybe it really *should* burn to the ground. We've done nothing to earn it.
I didn't learn about this until after I dropped out in middle school and began educating myself through independent means, and through trusted sources on the internet. There is a lot in my knowledge that dropping out rendered into gaps, but I do my best to educate myself.
Education is also industrialize as well the best way for history to be forgotten is to not teach it. It wasn't even taught in some black schools as well. Look who the education system is run by
I too was about to look this up because I had no idea. So thank you so much for leaving this amazing and educational comment!

This woman is explaining what we all been saying for YEARS. I cry real tears everytime I see this WE ARE TIRED!! We did it the "right way" and we still can't win. I am in Minneapolis and I get anxious when I see police I get anxious seeing a group of white men or women. I cant breath is not just about getting choked out its also about getting choked out by this system. We didnt do anything but what ya'll asked of us DAMN WHAT MORE CAN WE DO!! Sorry I am fighting thru tears I am so tired its LIT being black but exhausting
I'm in Minneapolis too, third precinct. I know how overwhelming the anger and grief and fear have been even for me, as a white man. I cannot even imagine what this has been like for my black friends and neighbors. Be well, my neighbor.
Shut up!! You have never had an oppressed day in your life. You are a privileged American, and have it good in this country. The reason why you can't breathe when you see a group of white people minding their own business and not bothering you is because you are racists.
Bryan, I love you. I'm sorry for my white cousin here. And for all of it. I hear you. It's exhausting being constantly in fear for your life, not knowing which cop is going to be the one, watching people be murdered in the street with no accountability, being blamed no matter what you do. This woman's rage is righteous, your constant anxiety in this white-run world is real. I wish I could silence all my cousins who have to say this crazy #*&%, to ease your burden. I'm having some hard conversations right now. It doesn't feel like enough. I pledge to you I'll keep learning and listening and doing all I can. Bryan, you are somebody's baby boy, and I'm somebody's mama, and I'll keep doing what I can. Please take exquisite care of yourself. You deserve that. You always have.
Who's voice is being oppressed? Nobody is oppressing anybody here. It is because you hear the truth and you are being convicted. And when someone tells you the truth you do not believe him. This whole accursed generation is under strong delusion.
Being afraid of a group of white people is your own problem mentally. Most people are not racist or wish to harm you because if they were/did they would have completely annihilated you off the earth. What the community needs to do is learn to trust eachother by socially interacting more. Imagine if I was afraid of you I would want to avoid you as well but thats why this is happening now. Avoidance breeds contempt. The black/white community is divided because we are not taught the proper techniques in schools or at home to deal with racial tensions/differences if we were even lucky enough to have parents to show us love. Ironically in all of this I was arrested as a white person by a black officer because I told him I didnt like him. He interpreted it as a racial thing even after I cleared the air it didnt matter his feelings were hurt and I get a misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
WHY IS THIS NOT TRENDING ON UA-cam!!! Watched John Oliver bit and was taken a back emotionally the most when they close the video with Kimberly. she was on fire and instead of crying, i was so stunned and captivated by her every points and statements. I'm not American, not black and did not lived in the us. I did not know about Tulsa, heard about Rosewood but from what i recall, it was not given the proper significance. I would like to acknowledge you for identifying the 3 groups and their different roles in civil movement, commend you for the great analogy on monopoly in explaining what American economy is to a black American, and will continue to support every bit of your "... the game is fixed..." statement because thats the truth. Thanks for speaking, thanks for sharing. Black Lives Matter.
After it aired on the Oprah special it gained a great audience. We all have to educate ourselves, so that dark side of history never repeats itself.
Can't stop crying...she capsulized every hurt, pain, disappointment, anger and sorrow that African Americans have lived with for soooooo long. We have tried to endure, to get happiness where we can and to be peaceful...to try to strive despite the oppression. It's over-we just can't do it anymore.

One of the most effective things I've said to them so far: "If someone murdered me, and if the criminal 'justice' system REFUSED to punish my killer, would you be willing to burn down a city? @S M
Kimberly Jones knows exactly what she's talking about.
Do your research. Stop sanitizing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"In September of 1967, Martin Luther King delivered a speech at the American Psychology Association’s annual convention in Washington, DC. Approaching his fortieth year, more than a decade removed from his most prominent battles and victories, this was King with the sun setting at his back. In the eyes of many he was the nominal leader of a movement that no longer followed him. And he was faced with the choice of whether to resist or submit to the growing momentum of a younger, more turbulent generation.
It was his first speech since the bloody summer had come to a close, and he appeared to have evolved on the issue of rioting and looting. He now spoke of it as a necessary act, a stance which stood in contrast to his discussion of riots just a year earlier. He had been resigned to them as an inevitability, but now he was understanding them as a small measure of freedom.
“Urban riots must now be recognized as durable social phenomena,” he told the assembled crowd of mostly white doctors and academics. “They may be deplored, but they are there and should be understood. Urban riots are a special form of violence. They are not insurrections. The rioters are not seeking to seize territory or to attain control of institutions. They are mainly intended to shock the white community. They are a distorted form of social protest. The looting which is their principal feature serves many functions. It enables the most enraged and deprived Negro to take hold of consumer goods with the ease the white man does by using his purse. Often the Negro does not even want what he takes; he wants the experience of taking.”

Lemme clarify. Looting still isn't the answer/solution but I understand the reason. But there are those that have been doing it for self-serving purposes and NOT that reason. Research it, it's not made up.

This woman is amazing. Every person trying not to be racist should listen to her. Multiple times.
I'm sorry, why do you have to "try" not to be racist?
@@atheist28403 Newsflash, EVERYONE HAS TO TRY TO NOT BE RACIST. We were all raised in a racist society. If you're not able to admit your shortcomings to yourself and work to be better, you're part of the problem.
@@TimMFWolfe EVERYONE HAS TO TRY NOT TO BE RACIST? We must have very different definitions of racism then.
@@atheist28403 Well sure, if your only definition of racism is calling someone a name, or actively trying to hurt them. That's a definition that lets you off the hook, lets you pat yourself on the back, for not being the absolute worst. Great job, have a cookie.
I'm talking about a higher standard, about every human's responsibility to work for a more fair and just society. My definition recognizes that as a white person I have benefited simply from being born into a racist society, and that not speaking up and working to fix it is equivalent to upholding and reinforcing it.
So yeah, you and me, we have to be constantly working to not be racists. I get that that probably sounds unpleasant and totally unfair. Which means you have two choices: turn your back on it, or pitch in trying to fix a fundamentally unfair system.
@@TimMFWolfe *Racism* (n): 1) prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
or...
2) the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another.
Words have meaning. There is no "my definition" or "your definition" there is *THE* definition. Using such strong language (racism, racist, etc.) as flippantly as you do cheapens and weakens the power of those words. "Racist" _was_ one of the most damning labels one could acquire. Now...hardly anyone takes it seriously.
Also, this privilege you speak of has more to do with an overt media bias and politically-driven propaganda and pandering. Like most organisms on this planet, pattern recognition is key to our evolution. When the news constantly pumps this "bigotry" narrative, and shows nothing but "white cop kills black man" and "black man kills so and so", blacks focus on the first story and perceive systemic racism; without realizing (or without caring) that it happens to other races as well (e.g. it has more to do with class and SES than with race). Whites focus more on the latter story as a result of in-group biases and (like blacks) perceive these incidents to be much more common than they really are. This is also not racism, this is called (inherent) bias.
Also, the stats simply don't back up your claims. Single-parent homes, a devaluation of education, and criminal records attained during youth are the three best predictors of poverty and incarceration in adulthood. By _your_ definition, one can logically conclude that you believe many in the black community to be very racist: "not speaking up and working to fix it is equivalent to upholding and reinforcing it."
I'm so glad you showed her being held at the end. It says so much about how strong society expects you to be when in reality people are feeling hurt, angry and unheard. The people aren't out there protesting for fun. They're there because they want justice.
Uhm Yes? 🤦🏽♀️

I'm white and not from America, but I regularily find myself moved to tears by the disgusting things your country does to its citizens every day, and Ms Kimberly Jones, you managed to make me cry once again. I couldn't agree more. People don't just "want to be heard". They've "been heard" for GENERATIONS and fuck all has changed. They don't want platitudes, they want ACTIONS. Sweeping reforms that uproot the whole cancerous system root and stem, because if you leave any part remaining, it will grow right back. And until that happens, nobody has ANY fucking right to tell you how to properly protest, because however you do it, you will always be delegitimized by the system that sees you as a threat. Fight for your rights. I am rooting for you. I WISH I could do more than that. I feel so helpless having to watch your suffering, but not being able to turn away, because turning away from issues is exactly why we are here in the first place. All I can say is I wish you so, so much strength and resolve, and that you will finally succeed in having your voices make a real difference. Much love from Switzerland. Never give up.

Because Switzerland hasn't got any racism problems of its own you have to be "moved to tears" by "discusting things" happening in the US. Hier, ein Taschentuch für dich.
@@blueorchid8081 Please tell me where I said that Switzerland doesn't have its own problems. That's right, I didn't. Because OF COURSE we do! The way we treat the Romani in our country is nothing short of apalling! Many people don't even give them the honor of acknowledging their existence. Nothing is being done to make their lives any easier, they are just expected to deal with it. Also, there is widespread xenophobia and racism in this country against pretty much anyone who wasn't born and raised here. It's getting much better with younger generations of course, but the deeprooted tribalism and prejudice especially in the countryside is undeniable. Hell, our biggest political party's main talking point is "Switzerland first! Fuck everyone else!" We are lucky enough to have a political system that isn't "winner takes it all" but consists of a federal council of 7 representatives from the biggest political parties, so that no party can ever have too much power and small parties can make their voices heard aswell. Yes, we do have problems and many of my countrymen deny them and it's disgusting and wrong. My own parents raised me saying "Keep your hands on your wallet and phone when you're in crowds, otherwise those gypsies and romanians will come snatch them up", which is just absolute bullshit. I haven't ever had anything stolen from me in this country, even when I was careless, and I don't know anyone who has! This sort of racist fearmongering is ridiculous. But at least people don't get fucking LYNCHED on the streets here by their own law enforcement! While racism is alive and well in Switzerland, its not INSTITUTIONALIZED to the insane degree of the US. Just because we have problems, that doesn't mean that I can't acknowledge that America has those problems aswell, and has them alot worse in many ways. And the fact that something like this can touch me enough to make me cry says less about me than it says about you. This is about empathy, nothing more and nothing less. Thanks for the napkin, looks like I can find better use for it than you.
@@magiv4205 Your're wrong about racism allegedly not being institutionalised in European countries/ Switzerland. Saying that feeds into the narrative of those being singular cases, but they are not. The degree to which it is happening in the US might be on a different level regarding police violence. And of course, you can express solidarity with black people in the US and their special situation, but Switzerland also "does things to its citizens everyday", you don't have to create that artificial distance. It reads as if you don't feel responsible for things going on around you and don't recognise them, even if that isn't what you intended to say.
And you can cry as much a you like, but proudly announcing/displaying it doesn't make your grief more valuable than the ones of those who handle it differently than you. It sometimes comes across as if crying white people are expecting a tap on the shoulder without actually doing the work that anti-racism requires. This is one of the best (and most powerful) explanations to the WHY of our current events.
I come back to this video so many times because black people have been kept down economically for literal centuries with brutal violence. Even now, for each small step forward, black people get knocked 100 steps back and it's despicable that people who are meant to protect and serve see blacks as target practice and nothing more. What happened in Tulsa and Rosewood was atrocious, what happened to individuals like Emmett Till, George Stinney Jr, and George Floyd among many others is atrocious.
"THEYRE LUCKY BLACK PEOPLE ARE LOOKIN FOR EQUALITY AND NOT REVENGE"
@FEDSJ At this point, if you think black people aren't justified in their anger against this systematic racism, then you're a bystander that works with the oppressor.
Educate yourself and go to the black lives matter website if you want to help the cause. If not, step down and don't demean black voices.
@FEDSJ explain why you say that
@FEDSJ You clearly didn't listen to a single word she said then. Slavery. Look up Tulsa, look up Rosewood. The moment black people actually gained ground, they were slaughtered into submission. White people can say "I'm not responsible for what happened" but they still benefit from the aftermath.
@FEDSJ What an ignorant comment.
@FEDSJ You know you're criticizing a black woman's reaction to racial injustice after a lifetime of systematic racism, right? Like you have a say in if it's "justified", when you haven't lived her life? Wow. Look FEDSJ, if you want someone to educate you, go listen to Jane Elliot's lectures, instead of scrolling through youtube comments for explanations you can google in .000001 seconds. Or, if you're literate, read black literature. How about it? You're a smart guy, right? I encourage you to do it.
More importantly, if you aren't FEDSJ and reading this, remember to protest, share the word, or donate to your local bail funds or BLM organization. Also be aware that change. org doesn't donate directly to the people making the petition (it's a for-profit site), so you should find their gofundme. Let's put our energy and time where it counts.
Remember to support black businesses and raise their voices! Also if you're going to organize a protest, make sure to use LINE or other private texting/calling apps, and turn off location on all social media apps. Stay safe you all!

Victimhood
While it was not as physically violent as what happened in Tulsa and Rosewood, in Detroit the city completely demolished the black community's thriving economic and social center (Black Bottom and Paradise Valley - home to more than 350 black-owned businesses and black neighborhoods) to build a freeway. It was heralded as a both a big advancement for the city's transportation network AND as a ghetto-busting strategy. It intentionally destroyed most of the wealth and agency black folks in the city, despite the incredible hardships they had faced, had built in their own community. The white city leadership literally crushed it all with bulldozers and left everyone with nothing and nowhere to go. We absolutely need to tell these stories, and understand just how racist the history of our cities truly are. For those who don't know, also look up the information about residential security maps, which were used to systematically exclude black people from accessing federally subsidized home loans that came out of the New Deal (it's where the term redlining originates from, since they colored black neighborhoods on these security maps red and labeled them as "Hazardous"). May way all unlearn the false history we were taught.

Not just Detroit either. From the end of WW2 all the way up to the 1970s, black and poor neighborhoods in MANY American cities were paved over in the name of supposed urban renewal. If you were being oppressed and had risen against your government to fight back and you burned down the Football Hall of Fame as a strategic/psychological show of force against the government that was oppressing you... would you call yourself a rioter? *What do you call the members of the Boston Tea Party? Do you refer to them as "unpatriotic vandals"?* Please... explain the difference to us.
In addition, what's your opinion about the fact that the police almost NEVER take on rioters and looters? They almost always let the rioters and looters damage whatever they want (it's a strategic thing the police have done for DECADES). Why do they do it? Because the cops don't want the change the peaceful protesters are asking for... so they let the vandals and looters damage a ton of property, which changes the focus of the protests from whatever the protesters are asking for, to law and order. And they use the media to help them do it... and the media either falls for it, or (more likely) they're complicit in helping them accomplish that goal... every... single... time. Here, this guy explains how they do it better than I can: ua-cam.com/video/Rlw3KijUSmM/v-deo.html
... And here's an example of the media framing the story depending on who is involved. During Hurricane Katrina, whenever a photo was taken of a black person who had raided a store, they were labeled as "looters"... whenever a white person was shown doing the exact same thing, the media labeled them as "finders" or "survivors". www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-harvey-20170829-story.html
This is how the media lies to you and does their part to foment racism.

David: Thank you for going out and capturing this important voice.
I was already on your side, Kimberly, but you moved me to tears and fanned the flames in my heart. They are high and hot, and I will spend the rest of my life being an ally, an advocate, a friend, and a fighter, even if it kills me.
I've already shared your words with several people today, but I'll keep sharing and keep speaking this truth. I see you. I hear you. I love you. All of you. BLACK LIVES MATTER.
I don't know how many times I have watched this video. A lot. It's still powerful every time!
Bro, you need a hobby
The truth is hard to hear. Thank you Kimberly Jones for speaking it.
She represents everything I agree w/ for about 20 years now. Kimberley speaks on my behalf.
She speaks the truth. I agree with this 100%.
“When you focus on the what, you don’t focus on the why” 100% on the mark. If you see this, Kimberly Jones - know that I am WITH YOU. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Kudos to Kimberly Jones! In a relatively short amount of time she has explained the "Why " people are protesting! Thank you to my Granddaughter sent this to me.
Me too, and once again a BIG THANK YOU all the way from Sweden, and please stay safe, I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart, to you, your children(if you have any) they must be very, very proud you are a TREASURE
She's absolutely right. The system has brutally kept down poor people and especially black poor people for a long, long time. Everyone needs to be working together to make things better for everyone.
I am an outsider, someone living in a different country with a different context, but this gave the chills. I know understand the point of view of many. I have seen debates with schoolars talking about inequality and racial disparity, but I never gasp the reality of ir, until know. Thank you for educated me. Stay strong. Fight for your right to live, live! Not only exist, but to really live.
How do you see the solidarity shown around the World? Do you think there could be an International people's union that would get the people the representation that would actually fix things?

I'm mestizo and old enough to not be manipulated by women's tears/emotions.
1. You don't know if she's telling the true story.
2. You don't know if those stories caused current blacks' woes.
3. You believe that all races are equal (dogma # 1)
4. Yet you believe that there are no raceS, but only one (dogma # 2)
Those dogmas have never been proved

Same. I live in a world where this kind of madness doesn't happen. It's heartbreaking to hear what people have to endure in the US just for being black. Things must change.
