would be great if the recorder wasn't so expensive. ninja v is less than half the price and you can convert to cinema dng if you still want to use davinci resolve.
Good review. I appreciate that you're not about "Yeah! If you got the money, you should absolutely buy it!". You kept it real and responsible. 99.9% won't need the extra features of the IIX. If you got $200 laying around, okay, maybe. But as a business owner, $200 can do a lot of other things... And if you have multiple cameras.....
right on! thanks for that! yeah the x is definitely not a must have but i do think it future proofs things for a bit and if that shoot does happen to come up where you need those monster specs, you know you have it - but the s5ii is more than great!
id say its worth for the raw output and 4:2:2 slowmo over the 4:2:0 of the s5ii, even if you dont use the external ssd recording. the price difference between them is so minuscule it doesnt make sense.
I've been following your channel for maybe 2 years now.. As I love Luminix cameras your reviews helps me a lot man.. keep up the hard work.. you're doing great bro!!
Great review. You’re the only reviewer of the X camera that actually shot something nice. This camera is amazing, especially the prores regular. It has an Alexa like quality to it. The ProresRAW looks a little too sharp. Too much like Video. But the regular prores recorded to the drives, looks so nice And filmic. When you ever get a chance, please share some more video in prores with the X camera.
I have the S5ii and 200mbs is plenty. I never have any issues with banding. It seems to me that if you get the 'X' version you only see the real benefit when you buy the other stuff to make it worth it. So the SSD the Ninja etc.
The Raw and Proress makes me want to get this over the R5C and completly change systems altogether DAMMIT Panasonic had this been released 2 years earlier they would have struck GOLD
Awesome Video!! I have and LOVE the S5II for my content creation. Amazing quality but always had that question if I should get the X model. You've cleared that up for me!
Hey Caleb! Great video once again! Kinda torn between the 2 cameras S5ii and S5iix - is it easier to live stream with the S5iix? Or do you think an s5ii would suffice? Mostly using the camera for music videos/green screen stuff and live streaming. And we're coming from a GH6...
Thanks for the work you put into this review! Can either the S5ii or the S5iix be continuously powered to allow for unlimited recording? I want to shoot video for multiple hours outside.
@@JVOTI Why would you need a Dummy battery for a camera that has USB C powering and charging? The S5 power supplied can only charge the camera battery but you can use third party usb c chargers that will also power the camera up for continual use...you can also use USB C power banks to power the camera...
Can you please confirm that wheather it looses PDAF in 1080p mode? In the s5ii, there was no PDAF working in 1080p mode in some frame rates. Can you please confirm that s5iix is behaving the same or it still looses PDAF?
from my experience it seems like a different autofocus in 1080 120 and remember it's a hybrid so there's still some contrast based features in there. would be same on s5iix from my understanding.
I have the S5II. Didnt know about the S5IIX at purchase. The real question is, will anyone be able to actually see the difference between a video shot at 600mbps bitrate vs 200mbps once it's been edited and then compressed by UA-cam or wherever you are uploading it. .
I was just curious to know if the all-i codecs are significantly easier to edit on PC compared to LongGOP, like I wanted to know the actual real life difference. I do have a high end PC, and in davinci resolve, it handles 10 bit files really well, but Premiere is significantly slower. I had to go with S5 II as my camera broke and I couldn't wait for S5IIx, but all-i is probably the only thing from it that I was interested in, and that too for editing performance only. (of course I can always create ProRes proxies, but that's an extra step).
technically all-i is supposed to be easier on the machine - bigger file but better performance. Maybe I can toss some different shots into a timeline and see how they work.
Excellent review! Did you notice moire patterns on the s5ii/s5iix due to the lack of AA filter to the sensor? And if so is this a problem for professional work?
I'm a prosumer/hobbiest - no client work, just travel, family, etc. I'm looking at two bundle deals. S5iix bundled with the 20-60mm and 50mm 1.8 for 3000 euros or the S5ii bundled with the same lenses for 2500. The difference is a lot more than 200 USD. Safe to say the S5ii is the way to go?
As a hobbyist, youd get much more out of going with the S5ii and eventually getting a Sigma 50mm F1.4 while selling the 50mm F1.8. F1.8 is good enough, but as a hobbyist you'll likely prefer one lens for fun most of the time, and the difference between F1.4 and F1.8 will matter far more than the difference between the X and the S5ii.
Great video, new sub. I'm wanting to sell my BMPCC 4K to get either a GH6, S5ii, or A7iii/iv. I want more mobility than the rig needed with the blackmagic, but I don't want to sacrifice beautiful footage like the blackmagic. Which option would you recommend?
If you want to use BRAW externally it looks like the highlight recovery option in Resolve is going to add close to a full stop in the highlights.. This makes this camera a extremely viable full cinema camera when rigged out. Watch Gerald Undones video for more info.
I have had the GH5 for over 5 years. As we know, the IBIS is crazy good, but the Autofocus and low light awful. I have the Sony FX6 but am looking for a hybrid camera to replace my GH5. I am trying to decide between the S5II and the Sony A7sIII. I know the IBIS is still amazing on the Panasonic, the Low light has been greatly improved but I am worried about the autofocus. I am hearing from users that it is not there yet. I will be using the camera for handheld and gimbal work. Not sure which way to go only because of the Autofocus issue.
Does this have 5.7k 60 prores raw external?i would like to have a autofocus camera to timecode sync airglu on atomos recorder to complement my gh6 2 cam setup.Thank you

@@LAOAudiovisual i can definitely see where you're coming from! i think the x is for sure more for professional style shooting and is marketed and directed that way while the s5ii is a bit more entry level - not to say that it's only beginners using it cuz it's an amazing cam and for sure has professional style settings but probably won't be used for some shoots where the x would be great in those scenerios. but yes, i can see where maybe there's a bit of confusion about it and hopefully my videos and videos from others can kind of clear up the differences and settings each cam would be used in. 🤷♂ thanks for watching and jumping in the comments! i really do appreciate it!

The S5II and S5IIx could be such a killer camera if only it has 60p Non crop 😞 wainting for the next Lumix 😉
yeah the crop is definitely a draw back
Probably because of S1H-ii -> cannibalism

Should I be worried about the bad rolling shutter? Not as bad as A7IV but I do like a cheesy whip pan ....
I have the S52 and the rolling shutter in 4K is not to bad and if you shoot on APS C mode it`s almost gone.
