People's reactions when they find out someone they care about has cancer...has always confused and frustrated me. When I told my family, it was just like another day at the office. I couldn't tell if they were trying not to freak out in front of me, or what? People wouldn't visit in the hospital, I found out later, because they "didn't know what to say." It would have been cathartic to have a reaction like they show in this movie, where people have all sorts of emotions - even anger. It's so much better than apathy...

that is very strange, I'm sorry you found out about such a scary diagnosis & then nobody reached out like they naturally should have! I cannot imagine going through that or doing that to someone. I hope it's a type that is curable & you found it early 🙏 I wish you love & peace 💗

I think we all deal with it differently. When I had to tell my parents my diagnosis, and again when I was going in for surgery, I told my mom "Do not cry." Not like as in, comforting her, but as in ordering her (kindly). I could not handle that reaction on top of processing all my own emotions. It's just a very personal experience. I'm so sorry if you didn't feel supported or cared for, that must have been very hard.

When I found out I was 39 yrs old and had a 4 yr old. My parents and other friends and family were devastated. Funny thing, I was the one encouraging them and trying to make them laugh. I didn’t have my melt down angry moment until I was alone in the bathtub at 11:00 at night. I was fighting and being strong for everyone else but I had a very big support group with my family and friends. Being at the hospital for surgeries was hard for them but several of them were there, even though I was loopy afterwards and sick a couple of times too. Cancer is hard because it doesn’t just affect the person with it but those close to them and everyone deals with it in their own way. I am grateful everyday for those that were around and there for me. This month of December marks 10 yrs and counting.

I also want to comment on Jena Malone's acting. ICONIC! My heart breaks for her every time I watch this film. Ive never even visited Hollywood but it's on my bucket list of things to do, but whatever you guys are doing out there to create these kinds of performances, DON'T EVER STOP! Yes they're stories, and yes a lot of them aren't real, but so many of them people keep in their brains in their own lives. The strength of these women is something I've carried within myself and when this popped up on my recommended tab on UA-cam it took me down this emotional remembering of what actual actors are, and what they can do. Julia, Susan, and Jena, you guys are iconic! The world needs more powerful stories like this. Not this half-assed storytelling that we are all being bombarded with. We need things that transcend. This movie transcends! It's a vessel to teach young women how to be strong. I am not trans or anything, I'm a male who has largely identified as gay, but the older I get the more I want a family. And these roles make me think about Mya Rudolp MOTHERING on SNL. Look it up. Just Women are the greatest blessing mankind could ever hope for. Period. Love you all dearly! And thank you for your work on this film!

Almost all the women in my family get small cell breast cancer. None of us have the BRACA genes but since we’re all over the world and small cell breast cancer is extremely rare, it accounts for less than 1% of breast cancers, it’s genetic. Then there’s me, my body decided multi-organ failure due to internal malformations was the way to go. My three daughters understand though, we didn’t hide anything from them.

This is still one of the most underrated films. The ideals of this film are mandatory for civilization! Period. These two women, learning to respect one another, is what life is about! This is why I love actresses like Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts! They just, they are women warriors! And they made a film about what it means to be a woman warrior! We need more films like this here in 2024-2025. Who knew they made this film so long ago, and we'd still need this story, and sentiment of this story in 2025.

She should have talked to the kids separately. The tone she went with was perfect for the younger one, but with the older one it comes across as patronizing and fake. She needed to explain this to her daughter in a way that was more serious, honest, and vulnerable. Not trying to minimize the situation.
