      Same here. My husband has Type 2 diabetes, and sometimes he takes his medication and forgets to eat any food to balance it, and he gets very mean and ornery and says hateful things. Once he's had a meal, he's his old loving self again; even though he never says he's sorry for the way he acted, he acts like he is.

      My mom’s blood sugar has gotten low before, but never like that. She is a type 2 and she never had low sugar before until she started weight watchers and that’s because the doctor had her take insulin and glipizide at night but because she went on a point system her blood sugar has been really good. Then one night when she first tried the glucose meter patch (idk what it’s called) it started beeping and she check it. It was under 70 and my dad had her go drink some sprite (we didn’t have any juice at the time). Her blood sugar has been so good that she doesn’t need both those medications at night anymore.

    Idk why this came up in my suggested videos. lol
    But I will say about 4:30-4:41, yes, don't talk to someone about a person that's clearly there with you as if they're not there or can't understand you. I'm not diabetic, but I have simple partial seizures. So I'm fully aware of what's going on, I'm just not able to talk during my seizures, and sometimes my words will be scrambled afterwards even though I know what I want to say. Yet a lot of times people talk over me after my episodes as if I clearly have no understanding or I'm not there. During my episodes some people (including medical professionals) would literally hold me down when I was trying to let them know that I wanted to get off the floor. They were ignoring my groans, elevated breathing, etc and held me down instead.

    This scene alone was the reason why I kept snacks hidden away when my family and I were facing money issues. My late mother was the diabetic, she wasn't too terrible as this but she would eat very little so the rest of the family ate. I hid various juices as well just in case that my brother started accusing me of hiding food for myself. It was nice surprising her when she wasn't feeling so great and I'd bring her a snack to keep her calm. I miss checking on my Mom. 🥺

    I saw this back when...
    I've always felt this movie was both the funniest and saddest one ever made.
    There are so many great lines in it, most of them are between Olympia Dukakis and Shirley McLaine. I still can't figure out how they got a pronunciation of Weeza out of Ouise?
    This was originally a stage play, and the writer wrote it to help deal with the death of his little sister, who was a diabetic.
    It's a life affirming story despite the loss of a (daughter, sister, wife, mother) all the things that his sister was to so many and what Julia played so well according to the play write.

    Why didn’t she want to drink the juice if it was gonna help her…?

    • @anjelica948
      @anjelica948 Місяць тому +1

      Bc she is a diabetic, her sugar dropped low, and when that happens, people often become irritable/confrontational, or even violent. The reason being is bc the brain is fueled entirely by sugar- so if their body cannot process the sugar in their bloodstream as fuel (as is the case with diabetics), the brain reverts to its lower functional state (fight or flight), bc it literally has no fuel to power the higher functions like logical reasoning or emotional control. Fruit juices like orange juice have a very high concentration of sugar in an easily digestible form that doesn’t require a lot of work from the pancreas- so even a diabetic can somewhat process that sugar, enough so their brain can get the fuel it needs to function normally, at least for a few minutes. But, after that, the diabetic person will need to sit down and eat at least a small meal and rest for a bit, so they can get their sugar fuel back up.

    Pray for our children, pray against premature deaths in our children, pray for their healing and deliverance, pray for souls to be saved, for God to raise mighty men and women of valour.
    Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

    Can somebody with diabetes explain what was happening here?

    • @acspeter7
      @acspeter7 6 місяців тому +11

      this is type 1 diabetes, the pancreas insulin production stops working, so she needs to get outer insulin to stay alive, it is not easy to find the balance, sometimes you can have more than enough, and your blood sugar can go down too low, it can follow coma and death. Diabetes 2 is a life style illness, diabetes 1 is autoimmune, the body attacks the pancreas and kills the insulin production of the body. You need insulin for every meal. My son is diabetic, he is low 2-3 times a day, often over night, too. This is an invisible illness, but a type 1 diabetic saves his own life every day. 😢

      It seemed to me that keeping the blood sugar balanced was more challenging for a Type 1 diabetic as the insulin dosage, diet, and activity level need to be kept in constant balance. And, if the diabetic has had insomnia, allergies, a cold, etc., even the best maintained balance gets out of whack. It's a daily battle.

      My aunt didn’t play that mess they told her she had diabetes she would have to be on something the rest of her life she left the doctor
      Started a juice fast 60 days
      Prayed
      Cleansed
      I think she had one juice thing a day then didn’t eat anything long story short it worked for her

    Why on earth is she 'fighting' the sugary stuff? Like, I get she is diabetic and her sugar levels dropped, by why fight something that's going to make you feel better? What does she rather have happen? Pass out from low sugar levels or worst?? I am diabetic myself, when my sugar levels drop, I literally beg for anything sweet so my glucose levels become stabilized, yet she is screaming and spitting it out like a child... 🙄

      I don't see anything condescending. I am an epileptic and coming out of the seizures can be overwhelming. I am soooo confused and many times had to be held in place so I didn't hurt myself. Then there are times I am completely unaware that I'm seizing and continue walking. When I still drove, I drove 2 miles while seizing.

      Why don't you tell that to the family of Susan Harling Robinson, the person "Shelby" was based on?
      This was originally a play written by her brother, Robert Harling, after her death because he wanted her son to know his mother.
      Susan was only 32 when she died in 1985 from complications from diabetes.
