Bc she is a diabetic, her sugar dropped low, and when that happens, people often become irritable/confrontational, or even violent. The reason being is bc the brain is fueled entirely by sugar- so if their body cannot process the sugar in their bloodstream as fuel (as is the case with diabetics), the brain reverts to its lower functional state (fight or flight), bc it literally has no fuel to power the higher functions like logical reasoning or emotional control. Fruit juices like orange juice have a very high concentration of sugar in an easily digestible form that doesn’t require a lot of work from the pancreas- so even a diabetic can somewhat process that sugar, enough so their brain can get the fuel it needs to function normally, at least for a few minutes. But, after that, the diabetic person will need to sit down and eat at least a small meal and rest for a bit, so they can get their sugar fuel back up.

this is type 1 diabetes, the pancreas insulin production stops working, so she needs to get outer insulin to stay alive, it is not easy to find the balance, sometimes you can have more than enough, and your blood sugar can go down too low, it can follow coma and death. Diabetes 2 is a life style illness, diabetes 1 is autoimmune, the body attacks the pancreas and kills the insulin production of the body. You need insulin for every meal. My son is diabetic, he is low 2-3 times a day, often over night, too. This is an invisible illness, but a type 1 diabetic saves his own life every day. 😢
It seemed to me that keeping the blood sugar balanced was more challenging for a Type 1 diabetic as the insulin dosage, diet, and activity level need to be kept in constant balance. And, if the diabetic has had insomnia, allergies, a cold, etc., even the best maintained balance gets out of whack. It's a daily battle.

What does she rather have happen? Pass out from low sugar levels or worst?? I am diabetic myself, when my sugar levels drop, I literally beg for anything sweet so my glucose levels become stabilized, yet she is screaming and spitting it out like a child... 🙄

I don't see anything condescending. I am an epileptic and coming out of the seizures can be overwhelming. I am soooo confused and many times had to be held in place so I didn't hurt myself. Then there are times I am completely unaware that I'm seizing and continue walking. When I still drove, I drove 2 miles while seizing.
Why don't you tell that to the family of Susan Harling Robinson, the person "Shelby" was based on? This was originally a play written by her brother, Robert Harling, after her death because he wanted her son to know his mother. Susan was only 32 when she died in 1985 from complications from diabetes.

@@nicolewatling2642because she is low on sugar and out of it. They get combative
@@nicolewatling2642When your blood sugar gets dangerously low you become massively scatter brained and not able to think coherently. You also get the shakes pretty bad.
Back when Julia Roberts put some real effort into her acting, I loved her in this and Sleeping with the Enemy", but then she started doing comedies and stopped trying, (or maybe she went into comedies because she wanted to stop trying).
Now they have surragate so dont have get pregnant
True true... Later in the film Shelby tells her mother that "No judge is going to give a child to someone with my medical record". So maybe she felt she couldn't go through alternate means
I understand, making her take the juice to stabilize her. But I didn’t like the way she did it. It felt condescending.
She had to talk like that. Shelby wasn't thinking right-she wasn't able to.
She was having an atack and refuse her mothers help. Sometimes you have to be straight foward to help someone who isnt him/herself. My grandmother had demencia and it was a hell roller coster.
The poor girl was altered:( She handled it beautifully!
A little to scary....
what type of diabetes did shelby had
One
The CURE for Diabetes is long over due. We need it now - for Diabetes Type 1 and Diabetes Type 2.
But then big pharma wouldn’t have a cash cow
Girl the cure is adjust your eating. And practicing fasting.
My aunt didn’t play that mess they told her she had diabetes she would have to be on something the rest of her life she left the doctor
Started a juice fast 60 days
Prayed
Cleansed
I think she had one juice thing a day then didn’t eat anything long story short it worked for her
Why on earth is she 'fighting' the sugary stuff? Like, I get she is diabetic and her sugar levels dropped, by why fight something that's going to make you feel better? What does she rather have happen? Pass out from low sugar levels or worst?? I am diabetic myself, when my sugar levels drop, I literally beg for anything sweet so my glucose levels become stabilized, yet she is screaming and spitting it out like a child... 🙄
Ah yes we totally forgotten about the heightened anxiety that comes with it☺️.
SHE WAS HAVING A DIABETIC ATTACK! IT SAID IT THERE ON THE TITLE. Just because it was different for you doesn’t mean we act in an inconsiderate manner or be rude. I don’t even know why I’m even responding to you.
The way they condescend to her like she's not even human is disgusting in hindsight...
How did they do that? I didn't interpret this scene in that way.
By saving her ???? She was being dumb by not drinking the juice when she needed it
Dillo
Yeah as someone who has 3 generations of diabetics in my family and also struggles with low BS... this is extremely unrealistic.
She doesn't have typical diabetes.
Not all diabetes are the same, but if it's low it can make someone not think straight or rationally anymore.
My family also has several generations of type 2. My mom isn't able to talk or communicate at all when her blood sugar drops.
Not unrealistic at all. I’m type 2 and I had episodes early on in my diagnosis.
Why don't you tell that to the family of Susan Harling Robinson, the person "Shelby" was based on?
This was originally a play written by her brother, Robert Harling, after her death because he wanted her son to know his mother.
Susan was only 32 when she died in 1985 from complications from diabetes.
Arnell suppose to be a Christian woman but she is shacking up with her boyfriend 🤷🏽♀️
I would like to encourage someone to a relationship with Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ loves you, today is the day of repentance and salvation.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 10 9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
God bless 🙏
If You're Unable To Have Kids, Why Bother Getting Married? 😔
So fucking rude to comment this
A lot of married people choose not to have kids. I've been married for 13 years and am childfree by choice.
Diabetes is no joke... I have type two diabetes amongst other things and that's just a card I've been dealt in life so there's no point in getting upset about it because it's not gonna help me or anyone else either especially since I know that there's worse things I can have than diabetes..
