Robin Williams was probably one of the best performers ever, and I truly will miss him as an actor. It's hard to imagine feeling sad about the passing of someone you've never met, but Williams had a way of touching people with his work, and this (clip) is no exception. He could be funny, serious, or just plain ridiculous, and no matter which way he felt believable. Watching this clip was the first time I got a bit misty, realizing that we won't be able to see anything else he had to give. I hope Robin know's that he had an effect on many people, and that he won't be forgotten.

When my parents were going through their divorce, I would go to my grandparents' house after school and watch this movie. It pretty much gave me the only idea I had of what they were going through. While I now know that their divorce was extremely different from the one portrayed in the movie (that should go without saying), it always hit me pretty hard. Now that both my grandparents and Robin are gone...it's hard to type this without tearing up.
    Rest in peace Robin.

@jhomrich89 That's probably why Daniel confronted her in the television studio that she never said "objection" to the judge and kept quiet the whole time after the judge was telling Daniel that from now on for the rest of his life a courtly liason will be watching him when he sees his kids. Luckily she talked it over with the judge another day having Daniel see his kids every day after school which was his plan from the beginning when Miranda decided to have a housekeeper.

I know a father who sought emergency custody because his ex girlfriend and her boyfriend were beating up the kid. The judge threatened to lock the father up for denying his ex access to the kid. Its disgusting that mothers can be abusive while the father could lose his freedom for protecting his son.

@@soulserenade.kcn1992 Yes, the judge found that admirable on Daniel's speech where he was either crying out of happiness or sadness seen from 1:31-1:33 and he even told him how heartfelt and genuine it was from 1:57-2:03 but only assumed Daniel was using his acting skills to bluff his way out. In that regard, that was a terrible judge that if he wasn't going to believe anything Daniel said, he should not have allowed him to making a closing statement which he said from 0:06-0:12. On the other hand, I would guess if Daniel said terrible scary things about his children (which he wouldn't) and say he was going to do a bad thing (which he wouldn't either) the judge would then believe him thinking he really has an intention on doing it but didn't believe any kind thing he said about his children. Since Miranda fixed everything with the judge in a later scene, I hope she at least confronted the judge for passing that terrible statement feeling they won't have to have anymore court meetings since she said that Daniel won't have any supervised visits or courtly liasons.

This is more tragic than the situation Mr Hillard found himself in. You might think you're protecting yourself from pain, and to an extent you are, but to never experience the love a parent has for their children is the real tragedy - if that is intentional... there's a reason this scene is so powerful, because it conveys the sense of loss relative to the depth of love Mr Hillard has in his heart for his children.
Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

I'm a divorced woman with two sons who are now grown. I know this might sound crazy, but I wished my ex-husband would have loved his son's enough to have fought for them, but he didn't. Instead, they were an inconvenience for him, so if you do have children, that doesn't mean that the other parent will automatically want them. Not everyone is parent material.
