It's because it hit a wire connecting the terminal to the operator house. The outside of the chair also hit it.

    WHY???

They were going to replace the lift anyway, so why not do some tests???

@Ole Gentsch This is not stupid at all. You know, sometimes a lift just can not get a permit to run (expenses to high or other reasons). So if even it would be disassembled normally it can not be put up anywhere else. So where is the problem in putting it to a last good use, which means doing some research on full speed rollbacks. This is something you can not normally test (because obvious reasons). Before you insist that the lift could be put up anywhere else, thats a no. To operate lifts, permits are given out if the lift passes certain safety tests and meets specific safety requirements. If those can not be fulfilled anymore (those requirements rise frequently to be more safe) or the expenses get to high (no spare parts produced anymore), such lifts reach the end of their life span. And reaching that point, what else could you do that would be practicable and actually of good use?

@@Varadero124 So i have a chairlift near me produced by leitner in 1989. And so if the lift is not safe anymore and leitner is going bankrupt, the same could/mayby would be done on that lift?

@@Retikulum01 Well to the best of my knowledge tests like this do not happen all too often. But you need to consider, just because we (e.g. first world countries) consider something unsafe, others don't. There have been accidents of ski lifts in other countries because there are near to no safety regulations and an old skilift has been sold there.
Another thing to keep in mind, such test would be performed only if needed. So if Leitner doesn't need more insight in how such accidents play out, there will be no testing of course.
A lot of these tests can be done by simulation today, which poses a lot less dangers.
I hope I helped you to clear that up :)
