Quick update on the Flow from these Gyre 230s on the 120 Gallon Reef... I have shorter version with just controller here: ua-cam.com/video/nYxRpphHrlE/v-deo.html For Full instructions visit :blog.coralvue.com/maxspect-gyre-200-series-advanced-controller-setup/ Thanks for watching everyone!
Hey CJ. I started off with a 10g and was almost successful until I lost my house to a fire earlier this year. but watching your videos definitely inspire me to get a bigger tank and give it another shot. thanks man
What style CJ, love your videos - subscribed. I'm running two 350's in tandem in a 260 gal tank. I can agree about the cleaning process, but I started out with an original 150, which to disassemble, was a nightmare in comparison. I still have a drawer of spare parts for it (it's still running as a backup after 5 yrs!). The other neg., as you say, are the dead spots. In my case, I added 2 AI Nero 3's (which can also push a helluva lot of H2O around) lower down in the tank. Another big negative for me is that these pumps seem to be magnets for Cyanos and other forms of algae (which is why frequent cleaning is so necessary). But you're right, for pushing water around there's nothing better.
Awesome video CJ just picked my 250's up from Reefrus the other day and was clueless on setting them up glad you put this vid out and thus will definitely help.
Omg...CJs Flow Song at the beginning of this video is EVERYTHING in my life right now! I need this track on repeat! 😍🎶🎤 Can we get a "Be Easy" song PLEASE! Asking for a friend! 😂 💙🐠
Man. I finally broke the bank and bought the XF -250's for my 150. These pumps are sooooo strong. I had to back them down to 20%. I'm still playing with them to get the flow to a good place.
Any chance you'd share your gyre programming? I've been running the LTC option, but doesn't seem to be cutting it. Been getting some cyano in the front corners of the tank. Thanks for your help!
I was about to ask the very same question. I like the look of the flow in your tank, and mine is set up VERY similar as far as rock setup etc. Honestly wouldn't know how to program for that. I have a 75 gl tank, with one gyre. Any advice or suggestions for settings? Please. :)
So based on this video it looks like you had your tank setup with the flow blasting along the surface, and that somehow generated enough all around? I have one gyre on one side right now and it doesn't seem to move much unless I direct it downwards into my corals for direct flow
Good vid man, I have two gyre's..one is the newer 230 with the advanced controller and the other is the xf130 which is basically the same pump but older. My first advanced controller was faulty out of the box and COralvue sent me a new one. I agree that the controller is the best right now and in terms of quality of flow the gyre's are the best BUT like you said the maintenance on them sucks compared to an MP pump and the noise is almost straight up ridiculous. What's interesting is my older xf130 is virtually dead silent even at 100% where as the newer 230 you can clearly hear in as little as 20% and get over 40% at certain flow modes and it's downright stupid loud! I have noticed that the sound varies between different flow patterns so at 40% pulse mode it's very noticeable but 40% at a different flow pattern isn't as bad. The instruction manual that comes with the controller is basically useless IMO too. They need to work on the noise of these pumps and they'd be hands down the best overall pumps in the hobby however, with that ridiculous noise I imagine a lot of people will return them. Also, I'm pretty sure I'll be requesting ANOTHER controller as I think this replacement is also faulty because in the auto LTC mode pump B does not go over 20% even with the max is set at like 60%.
bracka69 yes he murders any hermit on site and any small cleaner shrimp. I currently have 4 shrimp and 1 lobster it hasn’t touched. But they are big ...
CJ'S AQUARIUMS Oh wow.. I’m planning on getting one for my 150. Hermit crabs not a problem as I can get as much as I want from the tide pools around my island. Shrimp now I don’t have access to.
What’s your opinion on the apex system? Lots of people give bad reviews on forums about it. I’m planning to buy one real soon, what modules do you have for it and what’s your opinion on it?
love it.. all i have is pm1 module for additional prob... its already been major with my calcium reactor and temp on my tank... Ill always have one on future tanks
I thought I saw it on BRS. There is a program for the gyre that uses two gyres on opposites ends of the tank. For example, as the left gyre is ramping up the right side is ramping down. This goes back and forth. You mentioned the down force being in the center of the tank. This program moves the down force from the left to right and back. I thought that was kind of neat. stirs up low flow areas and makes sure waste cannot settle at the bottom. Is this something you could use? The video I saw this on gave the programming steps. I'd swear it was on BRS
strat1960s yea I know exactly what your talking about... I showed an example of a diff way to do that with one set for wave and the other set for random... pump truly has a million possibilities
www.bulkreefsupply.com/xf250-gyre-pump-with-controller-5300-gph-maxspect.htmlI found the above BRS video, but to do it, you have to get to ice cap controller interfaces. Argh! More money. LOL
this can be done with the Automatic Mode you can program on the gyre controller.. you dont need Icecap for anything unless u want to program the gyre using a Fusion app... this controller is very very powerful and flexible

Finally a video on the controller that actually shows how to use 😃😃😃😃😃

Can't wait to adjust my gyre flow pattern tonight. Thanks CJ!

Your tank is definitely Looking way better, I love that red coral on the sand
One of the most helpful videos you've made thanks man!!!

Nice review CJ. Just purchased the Gyre xf250. Your reef is looking lovely :)
can you post your actual settings for the pumps.
Man. I finally broke the bank and bought the XF -250's for my 150. These pumps are sooooo strong. I had to back them down to 20%. I'm still playing with them to get the flow to a good place.
Love your videos. They’re so informative. Keep it up man. Be easy
“Do you have enough flow” 😂😂😂 very nice video I’m still undecided about flow for the Nano
DC Reefer yessir gEt ya Flow and the nitrates will come! ✅🐾🐾🤭

Yes you have to be able to get it accross to bounce down the wall on other side of the tank to create the gyre effect.
Intro was slick AF LOL I thought I ended up on a Barry White video :D
SpaghettiKillah 😂😂 I had to repeat SEVERAL TIMES! 🎶🎤👍💙🐠
These will be in my future as well 😃 great video as always
What is the standing wave symbol

Yo CJ. You selling these Pumps? What are you planning on using after. And if so I am interested
Intro was priceless 😂😂
Are you going to get any bottom dwellers, Benny, hawk fish, gobies?
yes I had a goby but hes MIA last few days... still looking for sand-sifter that can survive in my tank. Last one got killed by Reef Lobster
Nice tank bro I always watch your Chanel everyday good update
Hey CJ do you have trouble with your blue head wrasse eating your clean up crew or shrimp?
bracka69 yes he murders any hermit on site and any small cleaner shrimp. I currently have 4 shrimp and 1 lobster it hasn’t touched. But they are big ...

Think the smallest gyre would still be too much flow in my Red Sea E-170? Great vid dude
Mark Welland no because u can always cap one end and effectively make it a Gyre 115 👌🏾
What music do you use?
gyres kick butt!!! new sub here!
Hey CJ do you think one of these Gyres would be enough for my 125g 6 ft long reef ?
if your gonna have 1 id go with gyre 250...
Good stuff CJ. I need to change the flow on my gyres. :)
What glue do you use for coral
any super glue gel works... doesnt matter the brand
what do you use to edit your vids
same as i always have.. imovie and my iphone 8 plus :)
weird. both of my xf250's at 80% are absolutely silent
Great pumps

I figured that from watching your video and a few others. I'm still a ways away from setting up my tank.
What’s good CJ
