Why the Apelles palette use Titanium white instead of Lead White or Ceruse, if its supposed to reproduce the Old Masters way?
As long as the color produces a similar effect to the old masters, it'll work fine.
Because lead white you barely get a hand on. There are almost no producers. Its limited by law in many countries. Why stick with it then, if supply is hardly possible. White pigment is needed in great amounts. Every painter follows their own preferences either, that also feeds the mannerism.
